Thank you, this was interesting. The truth is, if a man a lot younger than me flirted with me, I would probably interpret it is something other than sexual interest. I would probably just assume that I reminded him of his mother.

WTF?

Seriously. What. The. Fuck.

According to Imago Therapy, it's ALWAYS about the early childhood primary caretakers.

When i was looking i was contacted by a 27 yo. We talked for a while via computer, and he suggested we meet - i asked him if he realised that i was 51.

He said he liked older women because they were drama free. I'm still not sure what drama is, but apparently younger women are full of it.

We met a few times and i enjoyed his company. It didn't really work out for us because what i wanted wasn't what he wanted.

I'm a straight male dom, but I get looked at, and occasionally messaged, by folks from all sizes, walks and sex-I mean, over the years, I've received letters from gay guys offering to do cleaning, CD's wanting to serve, euro chicks seeking brXXding, young chicks, anorexics, BBW's, and yeah, the occasional older lady.
I take em all the same way-as a compliment.

Personally, I think relationships work best when both partners are closer in age (probably an 8 year difference max either way). And I don't think men have to be the older one in a relationship to make it work long term.

I think when the age difference starts to approach 20 or more years, again, regardless of who is older and who is younger, that there are other issues going on there. Most men I know date close to their age. The few who reach down much younger usually have other issues going on (insecurity, commitment issues, etc.). Again, I am speaking of actual relationships, not casual hook-ups. Same with the women who date significantly younger. In general, men or women who consistently cannot make intimate and emotional connections with people closer to their own age, very likely have issues. If you NEVER find yourself attracted to someone of your own age, you have to ask yourself what is going on inside your head.

What I find intriguing is the incredible double standard that exists in society - that somehow it is okay for men to date younger, but not women. Either we think people should be closer in age, or we don't. I think the gender of those involved should be irrelevant to one's assessment of whether large age gaps work or not. In my assessment (based on the relationships that I have observed), large age gaps, regardless of who is older, do not result in the best relationships.
