So they are "equal", but she has the second shift at home, and he has hired someone to do the "outside" work, which takes a fraction of the time of inside/housework and childcare. I can tell you there are a lot of very angry women out here who are working full time, like their spouses, but they come home and do another job, while he...sits.

I wonder if she is happy with that arrangement.

She enjoys cooking so for that angle she is good with it. He is a terrible cook (probably deliberately). They are both old so childcare is not an issue. I do know she resented it enough so that they divorced 5 yrs ago. But they needed each other enough to get back together and live in the same place/arrangement they had before, sans license.

Honestly it pisses me off, but I don't have to live with it.

it´s possible for her to have a business career of her own, bringing money into the relationship, as well as I´m also bringing my money to the relationship. 50-50 in household is totally out of the question as an agreement, the agremment must be totally traditional style with woman assigned to householdwork.
THEN the practical reality can bet that way that it becomes 50-50 in household to make the overall relationship-boat go forward.
If the dishes wasn´t done with her away on eveningclass or whatever, I´m traditionally FREE TO CHOOSE wether I do the dishes alone or not, she cannot ever nag me about it, since she initially agreed to the traditional lifestyle and household-chores are HERS alone.
This far in relationships I haven´t had a single issue concerning this situation(dishes undone when she comes home or other householdthings). ALSO I have had valid excuse everytime dihes haven´t been done, and the "calm" in the relationship has been kept.

hahahahahga NOT. So it's okay for both the man and the woman to work and bring $$ into the relationship BUT (1)she has no choice but to do a second shift when she gets home, (2)you're free to choose whether to help or not, and (3)she isn't allowed to nag you about it/has no choice to say anything. It does NOT sound like 50/50 to me. That would NEVER go over with me.

Setting aside your wanton butchery of the English language.

The key to me in your post is "agreement".

You have a set of expectations about how you would want a relationship to operate, and you're 100% entitled to those expectations - even if they're the kind of expectations that make me cringe - I'm sure there are people out there (of either gender, but I'm assuming you're straight) who would happily manage a career and behave in the way you expect at home, good for you!

But there are plenty who wouldn't be happy in that type of relationship, and I'm sure that's ok by you.

If you're saying that "I like this kind of relationship, and there are some women who like it too" then I'm totally ok with that. If you were saying (which I don't think you were) "all women should like this kind of relationship" then you're a sexist jackass.

An opinion.
Right then this is where I get shot to bits. A hell of a lot of the issue here as a generalisation is down to technology disenfranchising men from being manly. 50 years ago we fixed things, made things, used our hands not power tools or easy credit terms to buy what we wanted. That car had to last another winter, the washing machine another year etc. I'm not saying times were hard but men were more self sufficient & some chaps programming just hasn't adjusted yet.

It is difficult to find a role for outright maleness in the modern world because like the appendix it isn't really necessary. Nice but not vital.

We hunt as recreation not for sustainance we have log fires for decor not to stop us freezing to death. This has helped women get parity with us & that's a good thing, a chattel in the kitchen doesn't appeal half as much as a strong independently minded educated woman (& that's not kink directed). However some chaps see this as a threat to their ego's that's there issue not a downer on women in general.

On a tangent what concerns me for the future is our over reliance on technology, if the power steering automatic gearboxes are stripped away can society continue? We have lost so many skills & knowledge it's quite worrying to me.

I'm not here to poke holes in your coat, but why do you feel this characteristic is intrinsically male?

Hey Ninebelow,

I liked your post, so if there's any shooting, I'll join you at the barricade.

On thing I'd say is that when you say...

quote:

You could equally spin it as "technology has freed men from the chains of being 'manly'"

I really do believe that the context in which we live matters, and that different capabilities are more or less important according to that context. As you say the classic traits of aggression, physical strength, hunting prowess which naturally led to men being favoured (although with some notable exceptions) as leaders just aren't as applicable.

Coincidentally, I also worry about what might happen if the context changed very suddenly.. I think evolution helps us here - those basic "caveman" traits still live in the male dna, even if they're less needed now, they'd come to the fore if we suddenly had to go back to the stoneages.

Joking aside, I think there are some things/tasks that women are generally more likely to be better at than men, and some that men are more generally more likely to be better at than women.

Just generally though - I've no doubt that your wrench wielding produced better results than mine. I spent the first 30 years of my life just assuming that having a pile of leftover parts on the bench after rebuilding something was a good thing...

Well, a spanner is an adjustable wrench.  Usually cheap ass made because they have to be adjustable.

They're ok.  Can use them in a pinch.  Not terribly reliable though.

Yeah you are right IMO about the negative aspects I guess but how many are as a result of the disenfranchisement?

Hey leave my coat alone, the moths have done enough damage already.

I happen to think that the biggest losers in the techie advancement is us spanner monkeys who are happiest up to our elbows in grease & stuff.
