TheHeretic -> Occupy the 2012 election (10/23/2011 11:46:45 AM)

Ok. I've had a bit of fun this morning, but here's something any liberal that doesn't believe the OWS movement is promptly going to bring on the Glorious People's Revolution needs to be considering.

http://www.tnr.com/article/politics/96498/occupy-wall-street-liberalism-obama-2012-democrats

Now the Tea Party (mocked, mimimalized, and demonized in here on a daily basis not so long ago, by some of the very same people who are all aboard for a similar movement now, since they approve of the message this time) helped take the Republicans to a stunning (for some anyway - I couldn't get any takers for my offered bet of $50 a House seat, over/under 40) victory in last November's elections. Can OWS achieve anything like that?

What impact do you think this movement will have on the Democrats in the next election, and President Obama's re-election hopes, in particular? Will they split the Dems, or force Obama to tack left in his policies, when he is already losing the independents in droves?

Personally, those answers will become clearer once the RNC decides who to give the nod too.

Moonhead -> RE: Occupy the 2012 election (10/23/2011 11:51:17 AM)

Assuming that they do, of course. They had enough trouble finding a "My Lovely Horse" ticket the last time...

I disagree, Tazzy. Obviously, Romney plays best for the class warfare template, but we can be quite sure that no Republican will be running on a "more government is the answer" platform.

SternSkipper -> RE: Occupy the 2012 election (10/23/2011 12:09:05 PM)

Lemme Guess ... Threat that Occupying will interfere with the election.
Yep, it probably will. And lemme just throw this out, Romney Fans won't like it.

Lucylastic -> RE: Occupy the 2012 election (10/23/2011 12:13:30 PM)

the tea party was mocked simply because it didnt have the RIGHT message, it ignored so much else wrong, and only cared about itself, as has been shown here daily! by so many of the teabaggers. and they have done so well on the platform they stood for..jobs jobs jobs, where are they???

I agree with Tazzy but I dont see a good candidate on the right either, and it looks like no one else does either. everyone is certainly keeping quiet, about praising the wonderfulness of the candidates.
Arent you just a little embarrassed??? [;)]

As you perceive the RIGHT message, Lucy... Shall I point out that I'm perceiving you as one of the absolute worst offenders on this double standard?

ThatDaveGuy69 -> RE: Occupy the 2012 election (10/23/2011 12:24:41 PM)

Let's not forget some of the more important reasons the teabaggers have been mocked:

Fundie mentalies
Not-so subtle racism
Blatant hypocracy
Glaring stupidity
Over-the-top support from FOX News
Funding by the Koch roaches

Lucylastic -> RE: Occupy the 2012 election (10/23/2011 12:26:59 PM)

I could give a shit what you claim Rich.
If the baggers hadnt ignored the poor and unemployed, and just made it about themselves being middle class and fed up it would have had a broader appeal, why did so few dems join?
It wasnt because they were busy, its because the message didnt reach their interests, It doesnt take a genius to see it. Even from outside your little comfort zone.
Double standard?
LMAO yeah really, look in the mirror. Youve gone above and beyond.
Imm sorry you cant see it.
and really Im not going to stop being in support of Occupy Anytown just because you think Im.....anything.... so go bugger pussy cats[:)]

I think you misunderstood me, Rich.

Depending on who gets the nod.... as in.. will it be someone more moderate? or someone to the more extreme right?

Other than Iowa, is there any clear cut winners yet?

We went from 999 to 909.

Depending on th RNC candidate, Obama may be handed the election.

No, you were quite clear, Tazzy. I just don't think it matters all that much. Even with all the strikes against him, I still believe President Obama will be a formidable candidate next November, but he'll be going class warfare, demonization, and scorched earth, because has hasn't got anything else (I'm including the race bullshit in "demonization," here).

ANY Republican candidate is going to be portrayed as unacceptable/crazy/extreme/an enemy of the working and middle class. The question is, can President Obama hold enough unity in his base, without losing the independents who may be swayed by such arguements, to hold on to his job?

tazzygirl -> RE: Occupy the 2012 election (10/23/2011 1:31:30 PM)

I have made no bones about not beinng exactly "happy" with Obama. Many may see it as I do... better the Devil you know...

Considering the way they are ripping each other apart, the "promises" they are making, and the ignoring of the people at large... they are pretty much handing him the election.

Boy, it looks like everyone is turning against Oblunder.
I talked to my brother yesterday afternoon (the Teamster) and "the brotherhood" is ***BULLSHIT*** about Oblunder letting Mexican trucks into this country! He was screaming at me over the phone!
I was going to say "he's going to lose the Teamsters" but after listening to my brother's tirade I think I can safely say that, "Oblunder has lost the Teamsters."
"This guy is no Democrat, he's a FUCKIN' SCAB!!!"
And as go the Teamsters......
Oblunder is ***FINISHED***.

lol.. and here comes Perry questioning Obama's birth certificate. Can this get any wackier?

When asked directly if he believes Obama was born in the US, the candidate responded, "I have no reason to think otherwise" before hedging that he does not have "a definitive answer."

When Parade interviewer Lynn Sherr noted that Perry has seen Obama's birth certificate, Perry said, "I don't know. Have I?"

Perry noted he recently had dinner with Donald Trump, whose repeated questions about Obama's place of birth helped push the president to release his long-form birth certificate in April.

"He doesn't think it's real," Perry said about Trump's view of the president's birth certificate.

"I don't have any idea," Perry added. "It doesn't matter. He's the president of the United States. He's elected. It's a distractive issue."

Later, Perry said he would like to have Trump's endorsement for his presidential candidacy.
"He is a job-creating machine, and that's what I'm all about," Perry said.

I'm with Tazzy, on that much at least, Popeye.

Thanks for you analysis of the outcome, though. Do you think the unions will split with the Democrat party on nominating him for a second term?

Tazzy, ok, should I start calling him, "The Chimp?"

I'll be watching the Boston Herald next year to see the Teamster endorsement; "Local 25 Teamsters endorse Romney/Cain."
And that will happen all over the country!
"Chimp angers truckers loses endorcement."
If you're running for office you don't want the Teamsters against you!
