Why didn't he beat the living crap out of the pervert first and then call the police?

That was my very first question about the whole fucking thing. I mean seriously, SEE something like that happening and just walk the fuck away???????

Personally I think this case is going to uncover a whooooooooooooollllllle lotta ugly, but I really hope my gut feeling is wrong for once.

I've read rumbles about transporting kids across state lines, prostituting them..... Just horrible shit.

I predict that good ole (and I now use that sarcastically) Joe won't live to see the end of this mess. If he has even a hint of the 'good ole' really in him.

I don't fucking care that Joe didn't see anything (what his supporters are arguing) first hand and that he did what he was 'supposed to do'. Supposed to do?????????? "By what measure?????" I keep asking. And all I hear is lame excuses about chain of command and other worthless bullshit.

If you are a fucking LEADER, if you set yourself/allow yourself to be set up, as a figurehead, an example, etc etc etc......then you have a fucking obligation to BE A LEADER! Leaders don't just stop at doing the minimum to get by, they fucking LEAD.

Joe may have done the minimum of what the law and the school required, but he did not do the morally right thing. He is no leader to be admired. He is simply another cog in a machine. Fuck that.

Every single adult that is party in any way to allowing that shit to go on deserves every fucking thing they get times a million.

It is reported that 1 of 4 girls will have been sexually abused by the age of 18 and 1 of 6 boys. That is just what is reported. How many go unreported is the scary question.

I never reported it. My sisters never reported it. My mother never reported it. My brothers never reported it. My daughter never reported it. Most of my former brother-in-laws victims never reported it..........and on and on and on

Aileen1968 -> RE: Penn State (11/13/2011 7:00:09 AM)

Yeah...to me this doesn't fall into what are the legal obligations. Not even close.
It's a moral thing. I don't think there's a single person in my life that would have hesitated on taking care of that situation had they come across it.
They most likely would have wound up in jail for assault.
I mean seriously...how can anyone witness something so vile and not stop it????? How could anyone not just slam his head into a wall?

slvemike4u -> RE: Penn State (11/13/2011 7:03:10 AM)

The hand wringing going on for Pa Joe is ridiculous....it is a major symptom of what is wrong with big time college sports.The tail wagging the dog so to speak.....perhaps it is way past time for the NFL to form and pay for their own minor leagues....and let colleges go back to their primary mission that of educating young men and woman.
The other major question. Would want answered from all of the people in power in Pennsylvania is what did Joe Pa's breaking of Alonso Staggs victory total have to do with the timing of this thing breaking.It seems curious and indeed more than coincidental that this finally comes to a head only after Joe Pa goes ahead of Stagg.Did the trustees who couldn't get,or wouldn't use leverage to oust Paterno in 2004 finally,after the record was broke,play their trump card......if this in any way played any part in ho
W this all comes to light the trustees themselves and even the Governor have a lot to answer for.

slvemike4u -> RE: Penn State (11/13/2011 7:07:44 AM)

Neither my brother nor I reported it,though my sister did....and when investigators,as a result of her reporting, came to the house we all circled the wagons and protected the predator( dear old dad) I have never understood how that happened( I was just a kid) seems my late brother was always aware of the abuse....but I had blacked it out till after his death...so I never was able to discuss it with him...or dear old dad who also passed before my mind gave up it's horrible secrets.

LaTigresse -> RE: Penn State (11/13/2011 7:12:54 AM)

And that, Mike, is why I hold every adult that may even suspect, accountable. Kids are truly helpless in the face of this. It isn't the child's responsibility to protect themselves.....it is all adults.

slvemike4u -> RE: Penn State (11/13/2011 7:19:00 AM)

Totally agreed LaTige ....what I took from my childhood is the belief that the most important commodity in the world is a childs innocence...and a deep and visceral hatred for anyone who would,in any way,compromise that treasure.
I can understand any other human quirck or weakness....save that that hurts a child.

tazzygirl -> RE: Penn State (11/13/2011 7:27:47 AM)

I hate the way the laws are written. Every adult who encounters acts of child abuse, in whatever form, should be legally responsible for reporting that abuse... from parent to stranger... no exceptions... prosecution of aiding and abeiting if they do not... because, just as sure as that one child is being abused, another will be down the line. Covering it up is a conspiracy... ignoring it should be just as criminal.

littlewonder -> RE: Penn State (11/13/2011 7:29:02 AM)

I can remember as a kid my mom telling me to suck it up and quit being a baby, it's just an old man having a little bit of fun when my stepdad would try to touch me. She never reported it, my sisters never reported it, no one did. they did beat him up a couple times but other than that, in that part of the PA it's all kept hush. You deal with it in other ways and everyone just makes sure the other person feels as unwelcome as possible.

You just don't talk about it. You don't bring it up and you deal with it in your own circle. I think that's what happened here...keep it inside, deal with it in your own ways without involving "outsiders". It's always been dealt that way and always will be.

slvemike4u -> RE: Penn State (11/13/2011 7:35:56 AM)

And a child keeping "it inside" is akin to a child walking around with a little cancer in them...it eats them up.Hell it was eating me up before I ever knew it was there...took many years of therapy before I was able to realize that simple truth.

I don't think so.

New revelations.

Documents filed in Centre County, Pa., show that on July 21 the Paternos’ house near campus was turned over to “Suzanne P. Paterno, trustee” for a dollar plus “love and affection.” The couple had previously held joint ownership of the house, which they bought in 1969 for $58,000.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/16/sports/ncaafootball/in-july-paterno-transferred-ownership-of-home-to-his-wife-for-1.html?_r=4

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - A former Penn State graduate assistant cited by a grand jury report as claiming he saw an ex-assistant football coach sexually abusing a young boy in a campus locker-room shower says in an email he made sure the act was stopped and then went to police — contradicting what the report says.

Mike McQueary's comments, in an email made available to The Associated Press on Tuesday, appeared to add more confusion to a scandal that has enveloped the university and resulted in the firing of head coach Joe Paterno, the ousting of president Graham Spanier and charges of perjury against the athletic director and a senior vice-president.

McQueary, now the football team's wide receivers coach, told a friend from Penn State that he made sure the 2002 shower assault he witnessed was stopped and went to the police about it. The friend made McQueary's email, written Nov. 8, available to the AP on Tuesday on the condition he not be identified.

McQueary, who has been placed on administrative leave and did not coach in Saturday's 17-14 loss to Nebraska, wrote: "I did stop it, not physically ... but made sure it was stopped when I left that locker room ... I did have discussions with police and with the official at the university in charge of police .... no one can imagine my thoughts or wants to be in my shoes for those 30-45 seconds ... trust me."

Added McQueary: "Do with this what you want ... but I am getting hammered for handling this the right way ... or what I thought at the time was right ... I had to make tough impacting quick decisions."

And...

The grand jury report detailed a 1998 investigation by Penn State police, begun after an 11-year-old boy's mother complained that Sandusky had showered with her son in the football facilities. Then-District Attorney Ray Gricar declined to file charges.

Another missed opportunity came in 2002, the grand jury said, when then-graduate assistant McQueary told Paterno that he had witnessed Sandusky assaulting a boy in the team's showers.

The case apparently took on new urgency three years ago, when a woman complained to officials at her local school district that Sandusky had sexually assaulted her son. School district officials banned Sandusky from school grounds and contacted police, leading to an investigation by state police, the attorney general's office and a grand jury.

Why would a DA decline to file charges?

Why would McQueary leave a child in the care of someone who he saw abusing that child?

Why did JoePa sign his house over 4 months before the investigation report was revealed?

Does anyone buy this crap of al this being "coincidental"?

And it seems the Gov of this great state may also be implicated...

Gov. Tom Corbett took the case on a referral from the Centre County district attorney, Michael Madeira, in early 2009 while he was serving as attorney general.

Maderia said he referred the report to state prosecutors because of an "indirect connection" to Sandusky's family, but he declined to specify his tie to the Sandusky family.

Corbett bristled Tuesday when asked whether it was fair for people to criticize the pace of the probe.

"People that are saying that are ill-informed as to how investigations are conducted, how witnesses are developed, how backup information, corroborative information is developed, and they really don't know what they're talking about," he told reporters.
The attorney general's office declined to comment on the pace of the investigation.

The Patriot-News of Harrisburg reported Monday that only one trooper was assigned to the case after the state took it over in 2009. It wasn't until Corbett became governor early this year that his former investigations supervisor in the attorney general's office, Frank Noonan, became state police commissioner and put seven more investigators on it, the newspaper said.

Noonan's spokeswoman, Maria Finn, said Tuesday that manpower was increased in the case this year, but she could not confirm the numbers reported by the newspaper.

"The investigation, at the time, was gaining momentum," Finn said. "There were more leads. There were more things to do at that point. It's not that the state police weren't doing anything and Noonan comes in and changes things."

Maybe the Mods should move this to P&R. Its certainly starting to see it better fits there.

LizDeluxe -> RE: Penn State (11/16/2011 9:15:53 PM)

This case just gets stranger and stranger. First Sandusky gives an interview to Bob Costas. What an idiot (Sandusky, not Costas). I cannot believe his legal counsel agreed to that. Then there is McQueary and his daily spin on what really happened. It seems now he is saying that did stop it. That seems to conflict with what he told the grand jury. He also says he did contact the police. The police say "Huh uh" and again that's not what the grand jury report seems to indicate.

I agree with others here that there is a whole lot more to this story than what we know so far.
