This just has me imagining the uber Dominant Master of Everything chatting with a 24/7 no limits slave, and neither of them realizing their both 50 something overweight balding dudes with no actual experience in BDSM.

That's it exactly... except that in celebration of the season my visual included matching Xmas Vests with Knit Cats in Santa Hats and flashing lights purchased by their respective moms... the only women they can approach because of the restraining orders.

I'm sure there is someone around here who would re-arrange you're face for free... There is always a point in safety.

I'd rather take my chances with a stranger in a coffee shop than a sock puppet who threatens posters because she (or is it he?) doesn't like that her (or his) tired public safety announcement was met with ridicule.

Um, no... I was stating a fact that someone would... If i was threatening you I would have said I could re-arrange you're face for you, but I didn't. You really think someone who is going to warn other women about predators is going to pick a fight? Girl, thats just silly.

The last meet I had was for a coffee and a quiet chat - really lovely bloke, from a vanilla site, I spent more time with him which was fabulous, then on our 3rd meeting he raped and seriously assaulted me.... guess you can never tell! I have since found out likes German SM movies - he was an ill informed, dangerous, closet, sadistic pig who was acting out his exceptionally sick fantasies.

I think meeting someone from a site like CM where people can be more open about their likes and dislikes is a far safer option and after being here for 6 years and meeting some wonderful sane people who I can now call friends, I find your 'warning' and sweeping generalisations highly insulting.

I wouldn't say that, IMO if anything it makes it easier to hide under the banner of being a sadist. I find the contention that we in the "lifestyle" are safer simply for being more open with our likes and dislikes. An abuser is an abuser is an abuser. I don't find her warning insulting at all, there are those lacking experience who might think twice and I don't think it hurts to get it out there even if it's been said a lot.

I am so sorry about your assault!

I have to disagree about this or any other site being "safer". I can run you through the histories of many people on the profile side that can't be trusted with a burnt-out match. It's a crapshoot, like the rest of life, and sometimes we make bad choices in spite of our caution.

I read your original response as a threat too...   it is hard to discern tone in an email/text form.... I'm glad that was NOT your intent.  And FYI...picking fights is what some folks do for entertainment around here.

Now if you send me the bits of torn up ticket, I'm pretty sure Miss Braintree will let me stick them together in homeroom.

HURRAY FINALLY A MESSAGE TO ALL SUBS WE CAN GET BEHIND! Listen ye of heartless intentions and cruel persuasions! We are on to you! This woman has opened our eyes and hearts and in the words of Twisted Sister, "WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT"
But on a serious note....

Erm, I guess I am of the vast minority, but I am a firm believer of the "scraped knees" practice. Sometimes it's a good thing to get yourself hurt from time to time, to learn what not to do.

Not gonna go into details, but my first month in kink I was left in a hotel room tied up and unable to move.

Needless to say I've learned from then. Now I don't believe everyone should be going and throwing themselves into dangerous situations. That's kind of bad. What I did was bad. And very stupid. I'm just saying since then, I've gotten stronger, and hell, I even learned that using my colors is safe. :) Just my thoughts.

Since I don't play publicly or casually, I have no ties to the "community" and don't go to munches at all and couldn't care less if Master had been in the community either. Group think isn't usually my thing anyway.

I trust my instincts far more than I trust the opinions of strangers.

My view exactly.

When I started looking I was in my 40s and put a profile up on another BDSM site. I chatted to quite a lot of "Doms" and was adult enough to sort out the good from the bad. Out of all the people that contacted me I ended up meeting 3. The first I met was due to joint interest in the industry we both were involved in. Nice day spent over lunch, then coffee then afternoon tea.

The second one I met over lunch and although there was no "spark" we have continued to be in contact as friends.

The third one I chatted to and agreed to meet for a play session. I have not been able to get rid of the little bugger ever since. 8 years and counting.

So subs may well be subs but they are certainly not devoid of common sense and life experience.

The OP obviously just had a bad experience, and is venting. What she is saying may be obvious to some, but it I don't see her post as being anything to ridicule.  I am often surprised that people don't check out others more thoroughly before wasting time meeting them.
In any case, I don't think I would want to do a first meeting at a munch.  I always went for either coffee or a glass of wine, back in those dark days when I was still looking.  Nevertheless, I was fooled a time or two myself.  After that, I made it a point to check property and court records, as well as doing a simple google search, before I took the time to meet anyone in person.  If they wouldn't give me there last names, fuck 'em.

The op's ridiculous warning is equivalent to telling women who walked into a bar after work that they shouldn't believe what a guy offering to buy her a drink says. As though everyone doesn't already know that married guys take off their rings to pick up chicks. That guys in the mail room pretend they're executives.

And that women do the same things.
