I'd say it was drinking amounts of cold liquid which might be causing you to come down with something, especially if you're stressed at the time.

It's the sudden changes of temperature which make the body vulnerable to stuff like flus, colds, etc.

I'd also ditch all artificial sweeteners and go back to sugar as a sweetener, or even better, honey. Artificial sweeteners are poison IMHO, and low calories drinks and stuff can really screw up your metabolism. Being honest you'd be better off with natural fruit juices than the low calorie stuff. They give you more energy too.

My dr doesn't want me having juice or any fruit juice at all, all natural or not. She says it has to much sugar and carbs and not enough nutritional value for a diabetic under her care to even consider drinking. I don't drink any of those low calorie, or diet or specially fucked with to be "better for you" kindsa drinks anyway, It's only plain water, crystal light, or ice tea for me, and the cl and it are treats, 99 normal percents of times it's plain water.

Honey is also extremely high sugar, it's got 16 grams of sugar per a lil tiny lil 2 tea spoon of it. And it also doesn't respond well to cold drinks, it won't dissolve either.

I would also not be able to get it in most eating places and would not want to carry a bottle around just in case we may eat out unPlanned
And real sugar won't desolve in cold ice tea, which is what I drink when we go out to eat and as I said a lot of times we're eating on the fly. so I went to sweet and low, and that's the only time I use fake sweeteners cause I don't think they're that healthy for you, and I don't believe there's anything wrong with real sugar, even for diabetics, PROVIDED, you're not using it very often.

I used to try a couple of flavors, but it's kind of hard to find flavors I like, so it's peach tea, and very very rarely mostly never any more lemonaid.

Have at it lol.

I loved the skin of the chicken, and I loooooooooooved their potato wedges. My new thing now will probably be the chinese food place down the block from us, her beef broccolie and sweet and sour is so good! and their fortune cookies are so good and a big sandwhich size baggie is only 1 dollar.

Now I will be a good girl and not eat it like every week, but I will want it once or twice a month.

Tfb, I came back to see if you felt better or if you did find out you were sick. I noticed you said you can't eat fruit juice or drink fruit juice( I can't either, even milk makes my blood sugar go nutty) Have you tried the MIO drink flavor add ins? They do not have sugar in them, but do have sucralose(so people should avoid it while preganant) I find you can add very little of it to water and get a pretty strong flavor, so maybe you could try it.....depending on your views of sugar subs of course.

In those two days, you had 16 iced teas, each with two packets of sweet and low. That's THIRTY TWO packets of sweet and low. Each packet of sweet and low is supposed to equal two teaspoons of sugar because it is much sweeter than sugar. Studies have shown that the body will treat artificial sweeteners the same way that it does those sweetened with sugar or juice. So while you don't do this regularly, you did just consume the equivalent of 1 1/3 cups of sugar. Yes, I know it has no calories and no carbs, but that is still a whole lot of sweetener.

It is unlikely it caused your sore throat, but it is still something you should be aware of, special occasion or not.

Is your doctor an endocrinologist? If your insurance permits it, you should be seeing and endocrinologist for your diabetes.

Mia, thank you for that, it comes and goes, last night it hurt pretty bad, this morning was sort of bad, right now it's only a mild twinge. I still feel croaky voice wise, and prefer to talk at a very low projection, rather than speaking strongly and clearly. cause depending on the amount of talking can make it feel hoarser.

Lafayette, I don't think she is, my past two dr's have been trying to refer me to speak to a nutritionist one on one, and the program keeps rejecting my referral because they're treating it as a weight loss referral and Kaiser doesn't provide 1 on 1 with a nutritionist for weightloss. I could ask her about an endocrinologist, but I doubt Kaiser would be up for it.

Tazzy, there's a few medications I can't take with out bad side affects, but none of them I am on.

Thank you for that TFTB, but I was actually posting in good faith and with good intentions.

I am actually quite well aware of diet and nutritional matters because - FYI - I'm in the early stages of kidney failure (both kidneys damaged due to an overdose of medication) and some of the symptoms - like chronic fatigue, dry skin, and blurring vision - are similar to those of diabetes. I have to maintain strict control of my diet and monitor not just calories and sugar but also salt intake, intake of minerals such as sodium and potassium, and also the balance of fluid content in my diet and against what I drink.

Also like you I am overweight, but I'm handicapped by the above because, if I cut out too many foods, eat the wrong foods or drastically change my diet my kidneys stop working.

That saying, over the past year I have lost in excess of 60lbs and am back within the threshold for hormone therapy for my gender reassignment.

Therefore, as I hope it becomes clear to you, I don't need you to educate me in matters of diet and nutrition and I would have rather you accepted my good intentions and either accepted or rejected what I posted based on your own knowledge of your own individual health and circumstances.

However seeing as you obviously feel that you're more knowledgeable than me in these matters I will refrain from contributing to any more of your threads and I wish you the very best of luck in your attempts to maintain and improve your health.

Thanks for the nasty snarky personal message as well TFTB..

I accept that I might have misunderstood, I'm human, I make mistakes too.

I am actually in a bit of pain and I'm also dealing with family issues around a relative dying from brain and lung cancer.

I'm sorry that being diabetic forces you to have to bake with fake sugars.

But can't we just leave it at that and move on without the point scoring? You know? Merry Christmas and season of goodwill and that?

Please, just leave me alone will you?

I'm sorry to hear about your kidney problems. I have confidence that you have within you the where-with-all to regain your health.

TFTB, on the other hand, receives a lot of conflicting information and I believe it becomes difficult for her to process and sort.

The reason why I asked is because saccharin, if taken by someone allergic to sulfa meds ( http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/sulfa-allergy/AN01565 an example of which meds I mean) can lead to an allergic reaction.

Not knowing your allergies or such, I can only hazard a guess. But, seems to me if saccharin can cause all those, then the amount you drank that day could cause a sore throat.

I'm on a diabetic med, metformin, it's a form of glucophage 2 a day , and then I take prescription priolosect, 1 a day and , trilyptal 2 a day 1 a day 2 if needed an nsaid anti inflamitory , 2 a day nortriptilene for pain management

None of those show a direct, adverse interaction with saccharin, but almost all of them have a form of saccharin in them. I just think you drank far too much and it irritated your throat.

As an aside, when I was doing dialysis, the Nephrologist I worked with told me repeatedly that for every glass of beverage, no matter what beverage, you should follow it with a glass of water. As you know, Tfb, with diabetics, as your sugar level increases, so does your thirst. Water is the best thirst remedy.
