Tazzy, I don't know,  but angelikaJ has a very good point, Dry mouth is a side affect of one of the meds I am on, and it's easy to forget that's a basic side affect. If it continues to bother me so much I will talk to my Dr.

they have been 121 to 126, they elevated from 114 once I started the nortriptileen, because it says clearly as one of the side affects it can make diabetes hard to manage.

Sunday from 5 to 7:30 I was pounding down ice tea at Dave and Buster's with 2 sweet and low's a tea, I must of had about 10, and then Monday was a special treat, Daddy's company treated Daddy to a free 50 dollar food card for X mas, and he took the whole family to dinner, and I only drink ice tea, and I had about 6 ice tea's 2 packets each, and today my throat is beginning to get sore.

To be fair it was feeling a bit rough, even before all the ice tea, because I been doing a lot of talking and that will bring on a scratchy voice and a sore throat too, but I was wondering if maybe the sweet and low's had even a small hand in it too.

I've actually done some research on this (and no, I'm not actually a doctor, I only pretend to be one on the internet...but I can write prescriptions....well, that's not entirely true, but I do know a guy who knows a guy).

1)  Sweet and Low will not give you a headache.

2)  You cannot take "the whole family" out to dinner for 50 bucks (unless it's Krystals and you buy 5 - 6 packs).

3)  The rough voice was likely due to eating at Krystals.

I'm here all night, M-F....please tip your waitress.

Well our meal was 65 dollars, but his brother who works with Daddy also, took care of the overage, and You can too take 4 people( which is our "entire family" out to eat for under 50 dollars, if you choose the place wisely, and choose what you eat wisely.

TFB, do you HAVE a blood glucose monitor?  Even with controlled diabetics, random blood sugar readings should be done.  Sounds like your doctor is recommending a nutritionist for your weight issues instead of diabetic issues.  That one little word can mae all the difference.

Honestly, if your doctor has not told you to get a monitor and check your blood regluarly, you should change to a doctor who knows more about diabetes.  When I was first diagnosed, she told me my levels, said they meant I was diabetic, and I should lose weight.  That's it.  I didn't see that doctor again, switched to someone else in the group who helped me get it under control, sent me to the regional diabetes center to learn about the disease and how to treat it.

It's one thing to say that "no diabetic patient under her care should be drinking juice, but if she doesn't have you regularly checking your blood sugar, no sane patient should be under her care.

Lafayette I currently don't know where my lancet pen is:( I need to get another one tomorow. Yes I have a kit. And my insurance covers it too which is nice. I originally got a kit out of curiosity from walgreens and with rebate it would have been free but their strips and lancet boxes were like 70 bucks a box of each:(

My sugars have now dropped to the 150's... a far cry from a fasting of over 350. They still spike sometimes after meals, but are better at 180 - 200. I find myself pushing my Drs faster than even they want to go because its holding up my surgery on my heel.

I hooked up with a pharmacist in the group, and Mike has been wonderful at helping me push the Drs. My A1C dropped to 10, 3 points in 3 months. My cholesterol level by more than half and my BP is normal on low dose meds.

Tfb, please, start checking your sugars. If your insurance is paying, you need to take advantage of every resource. Walgreens does glucose checks, you could drop in there and have them do one tomorrow.

As an aside, LL, any idea why the toe nails beds would change colors?

Tazzy I was, which is how I know the side affect of the 1 med seems likely, cause my bs was always 114 sometimes higher if I ate something like potato salad and now it's 121 to 126 sometimes 130-139 if I splurdge a bit.

Chris, call the manufacturer and ask them to send you a new lancet pen.  They will do so for free.  The monitors are not where they make their money, it is the supplies, i.e. lancets, and mostly the strips.

My insurance was giving my pharmacy a hard time about filling a script for a new monitor (long aggravating story, I love my pharmacists).  My pharmacist had me call AccuCheck (the brand I use) and they sent me a whole new kit that came in 2-3 days.

If your insurance covers the strips (mine are over a hundred a pop), and the lancets, you have no excuse.

Off the top of my head is circulatory problems.  Funny you mention it though, because I have been having the same problem!  I'm having trouble finding a podiatrist that takes my insurance, and as for my regular doctor....well you know he's an absolute joke, lol.

I meet with my new (hopefully better) doctor on the 12th of January and that is one of the things I'm going to talk to him/her about.  I wish the appointment wasn't 3 weeks from now, but it was the best they could do <sigh>.

So now my question to you....any suggestions how to get the old doc's office to send my medical records with a minimum of hassle?

Just call and find out what their requirements are. Most require something in writing with your signature and the new address. Your new doctor's office may have a form - the VA does.

I never had that problem. Even getting an MRI sent from one state to another wasnt a problem.

LL, call the new office and see if they have a form. Or, you can call your old office and tell them to send your records. By law, they cannot hold them up, even if you owe them. But they may require you to go in and sign a release.

And, yeah, the costs of meds are killer. My strips are 100 a pop, the Lantus is too... and they just increased that so I now need more than 1 bottle a month. Add to that the Novolog... and ugh.

Problem is in NJ - they can in fact hold them up... until you pay their costs to transfer the files.  Law in NJ allows them to charge up to $1 a page for a maximum of $100.   Learned that the hard way when I needed files sent over a few months ago.  Granted I believe there are many who have decided not to bother with this, but sadly many do.

I think that is for sending them to the patient though, not a requesting doctor.

The old doctor is a pain in the ass, hence the switch.  Also since I don't drive, going there to sign a piece of paper is a mighty pain in the ass.  The new doctor would like the records before my appointment, which I think just isn't going to happen.
