-FR- Based on the article in the Associated Press the kid came to school, punched some kid in the face and the pulled out the "gun". One of the faculty saw this, the school was put on lockdown and the police were called and told there was an "armed student" in the school. When the officers showed up, they ordered the student to drop his gun, he refused and pointed it at them. Two officers fired three shots, killing him. Assuming this information is correct - I can't fault the actions of the officers in any way. Responding to a call of an armed student in a school has to be among a police officer's worst nightmares. Why Jamie Gonzalez refused to comply when two police officers pointed their guns at him and ordered him to drop his weapon is something we'll never know - but that refusal is what cost him his life and was his own choice. I've explained to a bunch of kids a number of times over the years that at the point where the police have their firearms out and are shouting at you - don't make any sudden movements, don't run, don't joke around, freeze and do exactly what they say. It doesn't matter if you've done nothing wrong. At the point an officer has drawn his sidearm, they're already expecting they may have to use lethal force. Defuse the situation, don't pour gasoline on the fire.
