CelticPrince -> The 3 faces of D/s on CM (1/29/2012 2:28:27 PM)

Here is a question to ponder by at least this face of the three.

I have been around here on CM for awhile and when I have time I contribute to the boards and other activities provided on the site but one thing is perplexing for me and while I have drawn a "possible" conclusion but I would like to see the opinion of why the following situations.

I have noted that there are three main groups here on CM, and perhaps more depending on criteria one uses.

the three faces are posters........as in you who might read this post and respond!

Chatters who frequent the rooms!

The third are new comers that join the site and then disappear for all intents and purposes.

The observations are these. Those that are on the member roles that show up on the list upon my checking in hardly ever take advantage of these boards [ I recently tested twenty five members that are on my search criteria....only one had ever posted and then it was only two postings more than a year ago]

The other main group are the members that frequent the chatrooms............ another 25 member test with similar results; very little partisipation on the boards

The third group....new members disappearing for all purposes speaks for itself.

Now the questions. Why is there not a better cross partisipation across the groups????????/

I think that the message board feature is not well advertised on the other side, despite the scroll.

I think that many people are only interested in finding someone (for whatever reason) and not in talking about it.

I think that the user interface may not be to everyone's liking (though I love it).

And I think that people may be a touch intimidated and read more than post.

Whenready -> RE: The 3 faces of D/s on CM (1/29/2012 2:55:32 PM)

Personally.. I read here more than I post. Sometimes I think of a response and find someone else said it already. Sometimes I have nothing to say on a topic.

I have very rarely been in a chatroom. I'm not particularly keen on the interface. I use other programs/fora for general chat.

Lastly, the different functions meet different needs: I cannot imagine that very many people pop their head into a chatroom to say "Hey great discussion going on on the message boards" (I reserve the right to be wrong) or vice versa.

I both use the boards and show up occasionally in the chatrooms

As of about ten seconds ago: Active Users: There are 503 members and 26000 guests.

Wow, 26K lurkers? I had no idea. I only recognize a handful of the names on the active users list.

DominantHunger -> RE: The 3 faces of D/s on CM (1/29/2012 3:17:47 PM)

I have been on CM's other side for years... and have only just recently started participating in the forums.

The reason I have not participated sooner is I hate forums. I've been online longer than the web and developed my hatred of forums back in Usenet's prime. I suspect those who do not participate in the forums are divided between those with similar hatred for internet forum nonsense and those who only care about kinky matchmaking.

To preempt the question - I am now taking part in the forums because these boards, while still prone to all the annoyances found in other forums, seem to maintain more intelligent conversation than most internet forums.

I consider this the "Collarme.com" website. Since I'm not into website "lingo," and don't have a map of the place....

What constitutes "the other side" that so many speak of, please?

Thank you!

susieqh -> RE: The 3 faces of D/s on CM (1/29/2012 3:38:10 PM)

@OP -- I read and lurk but don't post. As for chat rooms -- I have gone into the chat rooms on occasion but just not my thing.

I dont use the forums much here because
1. I prefer the forums on Fetlife
2. There are a small handfull of people who post here frequently and regularaly, who are all cute and clique-ish with each other and have hijacked quite a number of the forums.
There opinions dominate the threads. My opinions tend to be a bit less politically correct, than there opinions and I prefer to keep them to myself.
3. I used to post a little under my previous profile, same thing on fetlife, but find the forums tedious, repetitive and full of trolls who really are just posting to see if they can get some hot pornographic responses to their queries, I can just go read my cm inbox for plenty of troll dross and drivel.

sincelo -> RE: The 3 faces of D/s on CM (1/29/2012 3:55:32 PM)

I think that forums are not for everyone. Chatrooms offer an instant gratification that forums cannot. Some people cannot handle the cliquishness of forums which is inevitable in any group, and some just don't feel that they can contribute. I know that years ago I never posted and then i began (i have had more than one moniker -- coookie, astarri, i can't think of the other but i have always read more than i have posted. The most i ever posted was with coookie and it was mostly because i felt that i might have something to contribute. Why do i change names? Well shit comes up and i feel like i need to shed my skin.

Edited to add that this is a FR

Only 3 posts? Sockpuppet! [:D]

xssve -> RE: The 3 faces of D/s on CM (1/29/2012 4:11:56 PM)

Oh, and yes, I am being facetious.

xssve -> RE: The 3 faces of D/s on CM (1/29/2012 4:13:50 PM)

But it might explain this one:

The third are new comers that join the site and then disappear for all intents and purposes.

You are actually on collarCHAT.com when you are posting on the forums.

We've all had three posts at some time. In fact, I've been a new user on these boards several times, as I apparently couldn't make up my mind and opened and closed a few accounts on CM over the years. So I've had only three posts a number of times. Not once did I ever feel anyone was accusing me of being a fake.

Of 50 names (top 2 lines and bottom 2 lines), I recognized 16.
