IDK...I see Clorox bought BB in 2007, but don't see when they/if starting reformulating hair care products, which are still listed as Sulfate Free. Paraben Free. Phthalate Free. Petrochemical Free. I think that's why I didn't read the label - I assumed if they would take the care to remove these they wouldn't include artificial fragrance.

I buy Avalon Organics shampoo and conditioner from iherb.com - love their essential oil fragrances!

Here is another company that is getting good reviews. Not available in a lot of places but you can order online via their website and I checked Amazon, it's available there also.

These look quite good. And argan oil is supposed to be great for hair. Will def check out. And kalikshama, will check out Avalon, too. Thanks.

Wow, thanks for posting that! That's my absolute favorite moisturizer, that I found a year ago after trying lots of other stuff, and hearing that they've totally changed is REALLY disappointing. [:(]

There's a company near me, Terressentials, that makes really awesome locally-made (i.e. in my town) really-for-real all-natural organic skin care products, but they're like twice as expensive as Burt's Bees. I just don't have $16 for a jar of body cream, even if it's pure organic shea butter. But if you can afford that, I'd recommend them.

LaTigresse -> RE: Burt's Bees (2/23/2012 7:39:18 AM)

I've found another company that I am probably going to switch nearly all of my makeup and skin care to. It's called Origins.

Origins has some great stuff. I love their Ginger Essence products.

Local line. The best sunblock I've ever used, and I used to drive up to the dermatologist's office to buy the line she carried.

Duskypearls -> RE: Burt's Bees (1/16/2013 9:46:51 PM)

I was quite disappointed when Burt's Bees got gobbled up by Clorox. A great loss, in my eyes, as those were great, quality products.

Since, I can no longer find my favorites, as their discontinued, and the quality of the products has dropped dramatically. I, too, noticed a terrible, mechanical, stinky smell in what used to be a fabulous moisturizing cream of theirs. Returned it and will no longer buy from them.

I appreciate so many others here offering other product lines.

Ladies, and Gents,

When you are shopping for your "organic" products, look at the label carefully. I have found really nasty ingredients in most of the products mentioned above.

It is funny that this thread is here because I am about to launch my own brand any minute now. I finished making my first commercial batch and labeled all the beautiful jars yesterday. The product smells so great. Right now I am starting with a skin cream which also works great for bites, scars, wounds, you can use it on children, pets even, rashes, burns, etc. I love it for my skin the best.

I came upon it by accident and have developed it naturally through the years and am finally at the point of getting it out to all of you. I have been using it myself for about 20 years and would say it is a large proponent in why my skin looks pretty great, I get told so on the regular.

LaT email me your addy and I will send you a sample, I have the cutest packaging ever, so pretty. I even use one of my paintings as the main image. It is an ancient 450 bc Greek image that is super obscure, I have never seen it anywhere else before.

I would tell you more about it but I think maybe not here.

If anyone is interested to hear about it, let me know and I will send you the information.

There is also plenty you ladies and gents can do in the kitchen to mix up your own batches of beauty aids. Very effective and super fresh!

For example, take some olive oil and mix it with 1/3 the amount of unpasteurized honey in a nice clean jar. Fill it about 3/4 full of your honey and oil mixture. Get a chop stick and cut it so it is just shy of the top of the jar. You can use an utility knife to score around the chop stick and then snap it, or you can cut it clean with gardening snips. Sand off any rough edges with an emery board or a tad of sandpaper.

Wash your face and then get your honey mixture ready to apply by stirring fervently with the chop stick until the honey and oil kind of emulsify. Go clockwise, counter clockwise to really get it combined. You will do this every time you use it. Take out the stick and let some of the honey mixture drip onto your fingers and let the stick drop back in the jar and worry about replacing the lid when you can wash the honey off your hands. Rub your fingers and hands together to work the mixture even more and then dab all the key spots on your face quickly. Tip of your nose, forehead, each cheek and your chin. Then begin to rub the mixture nicely into your skin, spreading it around as you go, distributing it all over your fine face. It is fine to go over your eye area as well. Make sure your hair is well out of the way because hair and honey is an itchy and annoying combo.

Let the mixture stay on your face for at least 20 minutes if not much longer. When you need to dash, or are simply sick of that sticky feeling, go rinse your face. Do not scrub; simply rinse the honey layer off. Your skin will be nubile and glowing. The honey is a natural anti-bacterial and it feeds your skin. You will be shocked at how radiant your skin looks after one application.

In a fix for face cream? Organic oconut oil right out of the tub is incredible. It minimizes pores and the skin rapidly absorbs it. Remember ladies and gents, your skin is an organ and you will want to be feeding it.

Need a toner? Apple cider vinegar works a treat.

Oh the things we can do to help our skin is so much fun.

If any of you are interested in hearing about my new company and products, check me out on the other side and I will be happy to hear from you.

I haven't used Burt's Bees in a long time. I've been getting my shampoo off of etsy lately.
I try different sellers and I generally buy the shampoo bars made from good old fashioned lye and oils.
Just got a batch of beer shampoos in that smell great. I'm tempted to learn how to make my own.

Lush!! They only use fair trade products, all natural, and they have some WONDERFUL products!

I second Lush. I discovered them through the Mister's daughter. Just sampled their shampoo/conditioner and OMG it's amazing.

I am also a big fan of Aveda - hair and skin products both.

What a shame about Burts Bees, though. Always loved their stuff, even if I haven't bought it in awhile. Sold out to Clorox, really? Way to ruin an awesome product.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Burt's Bees (1/20/2013 6:49:45 PM)

I have been threatening to take Lizard to buy some bombs at the Lush in Austin. I can stand to use a jar of "sand" to make my skin smooth.

heartcream -> RE: Burt's Bees (1/20/2013 9:35:54 PM)

food for thought about Lush

another article about the crap in Lush products, "“Most of the public I spoke to while working for Lush simply assumed the products were all natural because of Lush’s very clever branding and the tactful placement of herby, muddy facemasks kept on ice . . . While working there, I began to understand that Lush is a whitewash brand that is incredibly skilled at putting on a natural ‘front’ and reaping the profits from this subtle deception.”

caveat emptor baby

NuevaVida -> RE: Burt's Bees (1/21/2013 2:52:08 PM)

Thanks for the links, heartcream. That was some interesting reading.

Aileen1968 -> RE: Burt's Bees (1/21/2013 3:16:31 PM)

I had heard that about lush. That's one of the reasons I don't use their products.

DreamyLadySnow -> RE: Burt's Bees (1/21/2013 4:56:39 PM)

I love the Body Shop products, especially the Hemp Lip Balm. No animal testing. Fair trade ingredients as much as possible. They are very open about what's in their products. I am sensitive to a lot of frangrances and nasties, and have never had an issue with their products.
The changes with Burt's Bees started a while back and they're only getting worse

breagha -> RE: Burt's Bees (1/21/2013 5:06:41 PM)

i also love the body shop products. i forgot about the hemp line. loved the lotion and body oil.

heartcream -> RE: Burt's Bees (1/21/2013 10:22:47 PM)

Mmm, yeah hate to bust that bubble too. I usta work in the Body Shope, smells so good but they are greenwashers, they are not really green and I resent these companies trying to get on the organic ticket but not really being that way and yet justifying too high prices for the products.

Not great either
not really cool either
avoiding toxic ingredients

Look at the ingredients list before you get all heady off the smell and the marketing. That is where you want to know what is really going on. I bet if I had mine ready for sale now, or at least for you ladies and gentlemen to see my stuff you would love it and if you tried it you would be hooked. Just like me and some of the folks I have macked on to it around me. I have people beg me for product if they run out. That is how I feel about it too. Which is cool right?

Check the labels, check the labels. Know what to look for that you dont want to pay for. Mineral oil is gasoline for example. Breaks down the immune system, clogs the pores so skin doesnt breath. It feeeels soft but the skin is actually being killed and toxins being sent into precious organs etc. Petroleum jelly same obviously. Be careful with your product choices. Swear to god you are far better using products in your pantry instead of these toxic products.
