Status: offline 		I don't think there's any certain length but if you ramble on and on about nothing at all or repeating the same stuff all the time or trying to make yourself seem like some kind of elitist, I skip right over it, the same with the forums postings.

When I was still searching, my profile was maybe two very short paragraphs, if that. It was short, succinct and to the point of what I was searching for. Seemed to work.

That's the best kind. That immediately tells me that they didn't ready my profile, even if they tell me they did. Or that they don't care about my preferences.

You and I don't see eye to eye as far as respect to the reader. If saw your profile, you were all good things and 15 paragraphs later the tag line says "no beards" . . . I would hate you. However, I am not the kind of guy that reads the first paragraph and and goes off half cocked writing love letters to strangers.

i haven't noticed that. i myself had a much longer profile (too long), and cut it way down. to each their own.

reading other people's long profile is a double edged sword. on the one hand, if i'm really interested in someone, i want to know as much as possible about them, and respond with something from their profile that resonated with me. on the other hand, that takes a lot of time, so sometimes it's nice to respond to a shorter profile (less effort to initially read and understand them) and see if there's any initial interest before investing (time, energy) in correspondence.

edit ps - re the profiles that rant on about what they don't want, i agree - huge red flag

Status: offline 		I'm actually not all that concerned with "optimum length".  I didn't write My profile with who is reading it from an IPod in mind.  While I admit that I do need to update it, the purpose for having the thing is about giving someone a glimpse through the window of My world.  If they don't like what they see, for whatever reason, they should just move to the next.

Have I been mistaken that, perhaps, the OP is specifically speaking of women's profiles?  Maybe I had better read the original again.

Plus, you have to give Me a break on this one.  It's not just about being female.  There's a huge difference between those who are looking and those who are not.  I tend to think those of us who are not have less interest in what others think of the profile than those who are using it (properly) for advertising themselves.

I'm going out to Wal-Mart in a few minutes to purchase a web cam. My old one does not work with windows 7 only with XP. I'm encountering the same old Epic story I get from many people...that I look younger than my age. Normally, people are trying to pretend to be younger than they actually are. LOL

Damn it, being 47 and looking 30 something is a bitch.

The only problem is getting ID'ed yet when I go out.

I don't think I've ever used a webcam online. Just never felt a need for it.

I've been meaning to get a new one, for awhile now. Really I have not had much of a need for one. Perhaps, I'll end exploring video blogging with it or whatever else. lol

At 160 words, I think yours is way too short for anyone to get a sense of you as a person.

I was captivated a few years ago by a man whose profile is a bit more than 500 words, plus journal entries.

I quite agree. Some might consider My profile lengthy, but I find I get more responses that are more in tune with My wants and desires.

I do not care what anyone else thinks about my profile. It is mine. If someone looks at it, decides they do not like what they see, I do not care at all. After all, most of the profiles I see on the other side, I do not care for.

i don't remember either (man or woman), just speaking generally.

i do give you a break fer sure! my mention of assuming they're available gave short thrift to what you're saying - if you're not in the market, who gives a fuck what every1 else thinks of your profile!

Status: offline 		I don't think there is an "optimal length". Different people like different things. Some readers will think that a profile is too short, while others may think that the exact same profile is too long. As they say, "Different stroke for different folks".

IMO (yes, I realize this is a huge generalization, but just follow where I'm going), I think that men tend to be more content with short profiles than women are. Many (but certainly not all) men just look at the profile picture without even reading what's written in the profile. That's why they don't realize that the profiles that are posted by Nigerian scammers seldom have coherent text. Moreover, I think that many of the women on here will attest that many (most?) of the messages that they receive from men clearly prove that the person writing didn't bother to read their profile.

Contrarily, I think that women are much more likely to actually read the profile. They're less likely to be swayed simply by a hot profile picture. They want to know about who you are as a person. So the more information that you can provide in your profile, the more likely you are to catch her interest. So women are probably less likely to be irritated by long profiles than men are.

Women also seem to prefer for the majority of the info provided be of a non-kinky nature. They want to know what you have going for you outside of your kink. Men often get confused by this, since many of us would be completely content with a female's profile that only contained her kinky interests, and as many (preferably nude or semi-nude) photos as possible. It's this mindset that probably causes so many men to lead with a cock pic.

As they say, "viva la difference".
