searching4mysir -> RE: need to loose weight (5/20/2012 12:45:21 PM)

Weight Watchers has both online and meeting options. It's a great program that is based in good nutrition and health. It works if you work it.

NaturalSub21 -> RE: need to loose weight (5/20/2012 12:50:57 PM)

Okay I will check that out thank you for your suggestions

angelikaJ -> RE: need to loose weight (5/20/2012 1:21:37 PM)

You say you need to lose at least 100 lbs.
Your profile says you weigh 190 and are 5'6".
So you want to weigh less than 90 lbs?

That hardly seems healthy.

You say you have no health problems.
Wanting to weigh much less than you are supposed to is not healthy.

When was the last time you went to the Dr for a check up?

Have you had your thyroid checked?

Before you embark on a weight loss program you need to know your health status, and then you should set up a healthy weight loss goal for yourself with your doctor.

Ok not proud to say but when I created my account I pyramid that I weigh 190 but that's not my actual weight I guess that makes me look bad on my part but I have a weight issue low self esteem and putting my actual weight I wasn't confident enough to so I weigh more than 190

NaturalSub21 -> RE: need to loose weight (5/20/2012 1:35:53 PM)

Put not pyramid

hardcybermaster -> RE: need to loose weight (5/20/2012 2:39:06 PM)

a little off topic but that is a really fucking weird typo!!

hardcybermaster -> RE: need to loose weight (5/20/2012 2:47:20 PM)

more on topic, don't go on a diet, they are generally bad for you. You need to change your lifestyle. Make the choice not to eat too much, make the choice to eat healthily and make the choice to exercise more.
You have to make those choices, and when you do you will see a difference, not overnight, but gradually. Those differences will make a change to your self esteem too hopefully, it's a virtuous circle, not the viscious circle you are currently in.
There is loads of info out there, weight watchers is pretty good, but basic common sense is good too. More fruit and veg, less processed food, less chocolate and snacks.
But mainly you have to just go for it and do not give up after a few weeks because ot's too hard or nothing seems to be happening.
Good luck

Thanks for everyones comments or suggestions

NuevaVida -> RE: need to loose weight (5/20/2012 3:36:40 PM)

I lost 95 pounds with Weight Watchers. It's been a complete lifestyle change for me. I now look at food differently, and know how to choose healthy options (and want to). I have about 10-15 more to lose and because of my new relationship with food, I'll be able to maintain a healthy weight for myself. I highly recommend it.

littlewonder -> RE: need to loose weight (5/20/2012 4:31:58 PM)

eat a sensible and balanced diet, talk to a nutritionist if you don't know how to do that, join a gym, see your doctor who will make sure you're safe to lose the weight with no adverse affects and they will also give you a diet plan most likely. And don't do any wacky diets. Just lose it gradually otherwise you'll just gain it back just as fast as you lost it.

And go through your cabinets and fridge and throw out ALL junk food! Cut out refined sugars, caffeine and cut down on the salt.

ETA: oh, and just one more thing you may find helpful that a friend of mine taught me and believe me it helped tremendously! Eat from small plates and with baby spoons/forks. You'll think you're eating more than you are and will keep your portions a reasonable, sane size.

People should not be allowed to have auto correct.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: need to loose weight (5/22/2012 8:27:40 AM)

Start jogging. Go slow, go at your own pace, but start doing it.
My personal trainer finally convinced me that all the machines in the world are no substitute for running. It is the one exercise that convinces your body to release fat. This is from a strength trainer! And he is right, I have only been running for a short while, and I am VERY slow, but i am finally losing that 30 day food supply I have been carrying on my ass and thighs for years. Plus it feels great and is completely addictive.
If your goal is to be more fit, not just lose weight, running is the way to do it. Coupled with strength training, you won't even recognize yourself in a few months.

calamitysandra -> RE: need to loose weight (5/22/2012 11:51:57 AM)

I am another one who recommends Weight Watchers as a tool to facilitate a lifestyle change.

I would stay away from jogging right now, though. If you are overweight enough to need to lose 100 pounds, jogging will put too much of a strain on your body, the joints especially. I would go with walking, ellipticals and swimming is a wonderful exercise, too.

As for the profile, simply leave the weight question blank.

And how much do you weigh? Here's someone who is dangerously overweight and you're trying to talk her out of doing the best thing she can possibly do, which is get active and get fit. Unbelievable.

LaTigresse -> RE: need to loose weight (5/22/2012 12:03:49 PM)

I agree with the Weight Watchers.

It's not a 'diet' really. It's a relearning process.

Food, weight, eating...........it's a really weird and fucked up relationship we have. Based on what I've seen my daughter go through, Weight Watchers is an excellent programme. IF indeed you are ready willing and able. You've got to want to succeed and follow the programme. It will work. I've seen it.

That's not the only reason, you need to lose gradually because you've been overweight for an extended period of time and your skin is stretched out. You don't want to lose all that weight to discover that now you need tons of plastic surgery because your skin hangs on your body just like your clothes that no longer fit you.

I've been overweight and I've been thin and somewhere in between. I prefer to be thin and stay fit and so you will. Exercise not only does wonders for your physique, but also for your state of mind. Start slowly. Put on your watch and walk out your door, walk briskly for 15 minutes, then turn around and continue to walk briskly. Do that every day for a couple of weeks. Then up your activity to something new. Get some work out videos. You can get them really cheap at a used book store. You don't have to go as hard at it as they might be and most will show you how to do the activity if you're a beginner. But the point is to get out and do it. You can do it!

She's right, running is fantastic. I'm not a runner, though. I've tried it and it's just not for me. But if you can do it, hats off to you! You know what the best exercise is? The one you like doing and you KEEP doing! But it's good to change it up, too. You'll get there.
