Status: offline 		You know, the funny thing is that I've actually bought things off of several dominas' Amazon wish lists. Generally, it's been someone I've known, or at least knew of, and I thought it just might be a nice thing to do.

The difference between what I have done (buying for women who may not actually even know me that well) and what the OP was doing is that I NEVER bought anything this was with the pretense of actually getting something in return. I usually did it because I knew the person well enough, or knew enough about her, that I appreciated what she does normally or just feel it's in my nature to congratulate her on her demeanor towards others. Almost EVERY time, I've never even sent a follow-up email indicating that the gift was from me. I just bought the item (usually Starbucks cards or AMC movie passes) because I thought it might be a nice gesture to do.

Part of the reason I've never actually gone through the work of stating it was from me is my belief that it immediately creates a dynamic where there's a certain pro quid expectation of some kind of mandatory response or desire of something tangible in return. Instead, I've always felt pretty good about the fact that I've actually provided a tiny service towards someone who doesn't necessarily have to provide anything in return. It wouldn't surprise me if she ended up with some nefarious submissive claiming credit for something he didn't do (by stating "yes" if she asked "Did this come from you?" That kind of thing happens all of the time.

What I guess bothers me about the OP commentary is that it plays into the whole fake domme thing that makes it so fewer and fewer submissives are going to be interested in being helpful towards dominants in the future because of the expectation that most of them are frauds. The behavior of the OP actually contributes to that phenomenon, and it just makes it even worse.

There are a lot of submissives out there who long to be of service to a dominant woman, and every time someone creates one of these fakes encounters, it makes it so that fewer and fewer legit submissives remain to be part of the community. Instead, they get replaced by the game players who have already figured out how to get what they want without actually contributing anything in return. In the end, it makes it worse for all.

Status: offline 		I dunno, maybe it's just me but I always found the wishlists a bit tacky, it's like asking strangers for a hand out, though due to the "what can I buy you" stuff it sometimes was tempting, not that they would actually send something but hopefully it would stop the mails.

I understand the longing for service, I never understood the foolishly giving money, unless that is a kink in itself. Then it's all fine.

This sort of profile is very common and I wanted to see if anyone actually goes for it. I copied the pics and profile of a suitably mouthy example and created an Amazon wish list for my new fake profile (giving her a new name and placing her across the country, of course) and waited for the results.

The wish list had paperbacks, lingerie, shoes, soaps, and an iPod, giving a good mix of choices. The pics were of a sexy, 40-some redhead in fetish gear. The text went like this:

The Profile
Now taking applications for potential slaves.
Applicants who do not provide Me with a gift will not be considered.
This is your first test as a potential slave, do not fail.

I offer to you, the opportunity to show Me how sincere you truly are.
Beg Me to choose you as the lucky slave allowed the privilege of serving Me.

You may begin by selecting a gift from My wish list that you feel will reflect your desire to serve and your possible worthiness.
With that in mind, choose carefully potential slave!

Once your offering has been sent and meets with My approval, you will be contacted with further instructions.

For now, your instructions are as follows:
1. select a gift from My wish list
2. send the selected tribute to Me
3. send a follow up email that will ONLY say "my first task has been completed Mistress" say NOTHING further! Await further instructions from Me!

All other emails will be promptly deleted!

The Results
It only took 24 hours for someone to buy the fake profile a present. I was surprised it happened that quickly but someone bought a $20 negligee off the Amazon list and sent the required follow up email. Having answered my original question, I took the profile down at that point. (The fake profile had a fake address so his gift'll get returned as undeliverable and he'll get credited.)

The profile actually got a lot of attention in those 24 hours. The most clever reply tried to start up a conversation without actually following the instructions by claiming the wish list wouldn't open. The other responses were just a sentence or two and fell into a few categories, here's the complete breakdown:

Time range: 24 hours from May 19-20.

Viewers: 71 (only logged in viewers are recorded so actual views were much higher)
Admirers: 4
Friend Requests: 2

Messages: 20 total
Complimenting either the pics or the items in the wish list: 6
Making a kinky proposition of some sort: 5
Denouncing the profile as a scam: 3
Saying "Hi": 2
Claiming to have followed instructions without buying anything: 1
Other clearly fake Domme asking how it's going: 1
Claiming wish list wouldn't open: 1
Actually following the instructions: 1

So, in conclusion, no wonder there are so many profiles like this. A longer trial would be interesting: Would the 1 gift per day rate continue? Would anyone make a grand gesture and buy the iPod? Expanding the experiment to have the fake profile interact with people would be (weird|creepy|fascinating|hilarious) also but I will definitely leave that to a more dedicated investigator.

You put up a patently fake profile and you got a ton of fake responses.

If you got so much time to wonder, you take it too seriously. Personally I found it amusing, a bit pointless, but not too concerned if somebody gets a cheap nylon nighty or somebody gets a kick out of buying one for a stranger. Most of us commented due to other stuff (me because RS joked about sending something to a redhead - hmm, checking hair - why might I have answered?) and just joked around. As for the OP being a sock puppet, wow, how did you figure that one out? You mean the person actually saying that it was a name just created for this clued you in? Very perceptive...
