No, In actuality I spend plenty of time in thought, at present I am thinking that carrying on incessant conversation with yourself is telling as to your inflated self valuing of your own opinion.

I would suggest a hobby that actually involves interaction with someone aside from yourself.

Maybe she's just practising for her Turing test?

Not actually true. There's other ways of reasoning than thesis antithesis and synthesis.

You do not reason if you are already in direct possession of the outcome. You can be in indirect possession of the outcome at the outset, however. What you are saying is false and obviously false.

Moonhead -> RE: Affordable Care Act and Its Implementation (7/7/2012 4:39:23 AM)

Try googling "extrapolation". Then think hard about the definition you find.

SilverMark -> RE: Affordable Care Act and Its Implementation (7/7/2012 4:40:33 AM)

No idea Moon, but it is a phenomena that in all my years posting in forums, I have never seen. Post, self reply, post self reply, post, self reply....

Moonhead -> RE: Affordable Care Act and Its Implementation (7/7/2012 4:44:35 AM)

It's an odd one, true enough.

I certainly know what extrapolation is and I do not need to google it. I even know what interpolation is and what the difference between extrapolation and interpolation.

If you have a point, produce it.

Moonhead -> RE: Affordable Care Act and Its Implementation (7/7/2012 4:57:34 AM)

What, talk to myself for a couple of pages in order to flaunt my reasoning?

BenevolentM -> RE: Affordable Care Act and Its Implementation (7/7/2012 5:01:20 AM)

Having thought about what Moonhead wrote a little further it seems reasonable to me that perhaps Moonhead is complaining that he did not understand my reference to extrapolation.

What I am claiming is that the Supreme Court has reinvented the constitution perhaps in much the same way that the physics community embraced relativity after having embraced Newtonian mechanics. It is America 2.0. It is not backwardly compatible. Interpolation suggests backward compatibility, minor version change, a refinement, whereas extrapolation suggests a major version change.

Except that your premises are for shit.

In other words you feel my dick is larger than yours. In this arena, it may very well be the case. In this region of space, my dick is enormous.

No, I was objecting to your wrong headed statement that all reasoning involves a synthesis of conflicting values, rather than an extrapolation from an existing position.

This is where you can contribution to the discussion. Tell me, how am I full of shit? Be explicit. Use words like nipple.

Ludicrous unsupportable asswipe.  Nipple.

Extrapolation from an existing position involves a synthesis of conflicting values. Technically, you are wrong, but it is not impossible for you to have an unspoken point if you were specific. What you said is too general. Secondly, this is not a meta-discussion. The particular argument style I've adopted may be appropriate to the problem. The problem space contains a great deal of conflict. I'm attempting to settle the conflict.

mnottertail -> RE: Affordable Care Act and Its Implementation (7/7/2012 5:26:09 AM)

Settle it in your own mind first, silently, use your inside voice.  There is only so much bandwidth, to talk about what is very definitely all over.

Not as good as it could have been and needs improvement but great first step toward true universal coverage.

And Universal coverage will happen after all, SCOTUS essentially said today that health care is a right of every American citizen.

Actually, they didn't say that.

What they said is....you have a federal mandate to acquire health care.

(That's what they said).

Not quite but a federal mandate to purchase health insurance or pay a penalty.

BenevolentM -> RE: Affordable Care Act and Its Implementation (7/7/2012 5:30:02 AM)

Suppose you were to send a probe from Earth to Mars. The trajectory of the probe is an extrapolation. The probe can miss the target, however. Why is that? Why are course corrections needed? Because the situation exists in tension between or among conflicting values. The probe wants to plunge into the Sun. The probe also wants to travel in a straight line.

What ? I am getting the feeling this is only so much of what we are all admonished to treat very circumspect...Internet (blog) jargon and whether it is all essentially meaningless and this is.

BenevolentM -> RE: Affordable Care Act and Its Implementation (7/7/2012 5:33:37 AM)

Is ObamaCare a course correction or something that is going to take us off course? The Republicans seem to feel that it is taking us off course, whereas the Democratics seem to feel that it is a course correction.
