I know it’s each to their own, and we all have things which annoy us – but I’m getting a little irritated with profiles from ‘submissives’ who are really concerned about people’s use of English. They make it very clear that if your response is grammatically incorrect they won’t reply.

It just makes me want to tie them to a flogging horse and split infinitives at them until they start screaming for mercy “Ha! I’ll stop when you spell it correctly! That’s why I told you to use ‘disestablishmentarianism’ as a safe word...’

Seriously, I get that how you communicate is an important part of how you are judged – but surely there are more important criteria in this lifestyle than knowing the difference between 'your' and 'you’re'. I find it very off putting and doesn't leave me thinking the author is someone likely to be very 'submissive' overall. If they are that picky about my use of pronouns, will they really let me integrate them with my electric train set and duel run them with the Flying Scotsman?

You mean like being intelligent enough to know the difference between "your" and "you're"?

Personally, I wanted someone that was intelligent and able to communicate regardless of the method.

Here's part two of that whole thing: How long does it take to go back and proof read what you've written? A minute maybe? You're saying that you're unwilling to spend an extra minute to be concerned about how you're viewed. It's about effort. And I'm not willing to be with someone that doesn't make the effort.

Would you think me less of a submissive if I said I'm not interested in Republicans or couples? We are all entitled to preferences.

Anyway, you have nothing to worry about from Grammar Nazis. Shall I send you some of the illiterate garbage from my in box so you know why women feel the need to add that to their profiles?

Hey there!

Yep, I'll admit that poor grammar bothers me. Not the odd typo, but if someone really doesn't know the difference between "your" and "you're" I'm inclined to think that they're a bit thick; the ability to use a semicolon, however, has the opposite effect.

I do have to say, though, that when I see someone explicitly mention good grammar as a requirement, I'm compelled to proofread their profile; my inner child loves pointing out the grammar mistakes a grammar nazi leaves lying around. It's also why I always make it clear that I'm always screwing up grammatically.

Now... your objection to a sub having preferences about grammar seems very silly. Why on earth shouldn't a submissive person have high standards, or whatever standards he or she chooses?

Paragraph One: So you get irritated by a stranger's profile? They may be very educated and need a dominant that is as educated.

Paragraph Two: So you would wish to take out your frustration and anger on someone you do not know that wants something you don't agree with and dislike, that has nothing to do with you, for which you could simply roll your eyes, block or walk away from? You use bdsm to release your anger over something so little?

Paragraph Three: You mention more important criteria (to you) in this lifestyle than knowing proper word usage. That is a personal opinion and we all have them, however, one of mine would include paragraphs one and two where you exhibit not only that you have an unreasonable temper, but that you would like to act on it with strangers simply because they want someone that would fit them. So.... you find it off-putting? Find them not submissive?

Well, personally, I find you rather off-putting, anal, angry and full of red flags and don't find you dominant at all. Fair is fair after all.

Actually I think that would be both enlightening as well as really amusing... one thing I appreciate being my self, never an unsolicited piece of mail in my "inbox" and if it is, it is from someone who read something I posted on this side.

It's good being unpopular.

I will return you to your submissive responses...

You mean like being intelligent enough to know the difference between "your" and "you're"?

I guess you'll never date anyone with Dyslexia then!

I wanna know why that word is so damned hard to spell!

Seriously, there's not a huge corrol-- corra--- not much of an established link between a knowledge of spelling/grammar and intelligence. Any educator can tell you that they work hard to enable less literate students to express their ideas, but those ideas are frequently just as good (if not better) than students who can write better. Now - in this politically correct era - are you really telling me you wouldn't have anything to do with someone because they suffer from poor literacy skills? And spell checkers only offer you a choice of corrections - you have to know which is which

(Hm - windows - that fucking paperclip 'you appear to be writing a pronographic e-mail. Can I help?'

I have to say I agree with the OP on this one ya'll. Meaning, if the use of they're and there is going to deter a sub from a potentially perfect Dom for them, that's a bit off to Me. I do understand the whole going back and proof reading, as we have computers that spell for us, etc. But..let's say the said people were hand writing letters or maybe having a phone convo and the dom used a word that didn't quite fit, or pronounced it wrong, or they could be on yahoo IM and fast typing. I just think that if it is that serious that one would say "ok you used too instead of two, so we aren't a match", then I wouldn't want her anyway. Her head is in the wrong place to Me. It's a bit petty to Me. What does spelling have to do with the dom treating the sub wonderfully, verses this English professor treating you like shit.

Yes, but his anger... to the point of wanting to do something about it that is inappropriate is okay? He could simply write in his first contact that he is dyslexic if he should want to communicate with such a non submissive person. Everyone has a right to want what they want. They don't want someone that doesn't use proper grammar... he can't have it as it is a limitation and uses his upset over it to condemn someone that doesn't even know he has an issue with it.

Calm down OP... Try communication rather than lashing out. You wish to be understood... market yourself.

Oh, people can have whatever preferences they like, thats entirely down to them. No problem with that.

For me, it's just the impression it creates - very off putting. They are submissive, but so infuriated by poor literacy they won't even consider a relationship. WTF? To me that kind of signals that they are going to be essentially a very picky person, and that doesn't seem like a good personality type for a sub ('this knot isn't tight enough. Hit me a little to the left. Have you washed this gag? I don't like that colour condom'....) If I wanted that kind of relationship, I'd go and bang a geography teacher.

Considering I'm married......I won't be dating anyone whether they have dyslexia or not.

Honestly, start off with a warning, "I have dyslexia and may be hard to understand." You'd be surprised how far that goes in helping people be more patient.

I enjoy a well constructed email but will accept one that is not perfect gramatically. I would guess those profiles you are reading have more to do with text speak.

That is when u n r ur n c n 2 n abt n wht n plz n pls n asl are supposed to be read as real words.

Uhm - I'd say I'm calm.... I don't think this is exactly 'lashing out' - or that I'm angry about it. It's a niggle I thought I'd raise with other folks online because it struck me as worth commenting on. Plus being a bit funny. And I'm not dyslexic, I just type quickly sometimes.

Hope no ones actually taken offense at this - that wasn't the intention.

No you are right, I do not agree with that part. Just the fact that I wouldn't rule out someone just because the misuse or misspell words. being a dominant, I would try to teach them better. But doing all the rest of the stuff he was talking about, no..he is a bit off on that part.
