Its a stupid anallogy. Has nothing to do with what I posted.

Of course it does. It's parallel to the argument you used, demonstrating the flaw in your logic.

I stated my point clear enough. You guys talk in riddles. All the gun control you guys can come up with wont stop these kinds of crimes.

So how many mass shootings have there been in the UK since 1996, then?
You know, if gun control doesn't stop that sort of thing happening...

Not to ruin the fun, but an actually rational discussion of the issues, goring the ox of almost all this thread's participants so far: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-18877454
AND by a Conservative writer. Shocked me.
it's the Culture, not the guns. Gun control is a myth. It's what internal controls PEOPLE have. In a country that worships force and punishment, what other outcome is expected from the defective minds?
Finland, 3 or 4 in the world in rate of private gun ownership. (US #1) Nearly half the population has guns. Gun deaths in 2009, 206 (No comma, no zeros after.) Most suicides or accidents. TWENTY TWO murders. And they had a mass shooting earlier that resulted in calls for more restrictive gun laws. Even a sane country has psychopaths.
The gun control argument has points. It does NOT address mass killings. No gun crime even approaches Oklahoma City or ever will. Even the political attack on Mumbai by a team of trained military people with guns and bombs hitting 11 targets only murdered 183 people. Barely an honorable mention in a world of IEDs. Given the current media coverage, we are destined to see far worse body counts as the insane and the disaffected learn from the Aurora mistakes and aim higher, for more effectiveness and greater notoriety, or political effect.

I've read the link. It's not very convincing. Partly it's rehashed arguments beloved of the gun toters here, and partly it's blaming a thing that can't be changed anyway - the American culture - as the writer knows full well. Result: the writer looks thoughtful and even a touch radical, but knows that bugger all will change. As an arch conservative, this is what he wants anyway.

Most of the worst abuses of people, by numbers, have happened in the last ~100 years. Every major abuse has had something in common with another. Central to each has been the government apparatus.

If gun control were not a tenant for such government apparatus, why the need to disarm the populace? The argument preceded the control which preceded the abuse. It's interesting seeing just whom is arguing for the control and what they share ideologically.

All the law we have doesn't stop any crime -- but it certainly reduces them.

You think your attitudes are worth some slaughtered people. I don't.

Nor is it "Take the guns!" like you guys chant. Banning auto/semi-automatic weapons would be a great start.

That's good, banning an entire class of firearms will reduce crime ?? A great start? What comes after that? Do you even know what you're talking about ? It's statements like that that make us chant "take the guns". And in case you didn't know *automatic* weapons are severely restricted which doesn't seem to stop the bad guys who want them from getting their hands on them.

And he could have legally obtained the materials needed to block the theater exits not to mention some gas and a Bic lighter. So what......Oops, it would have been too bloody late for that too.

The point is more gun control won't stop idiots bent on mass murder. He would get the guns anyway or use another means.

so just let things be eh? collateral damage is fine...
If he had used fire, you can BET that sprinklers, door security, cameras, sniffers would be installed soon after to reduce the chances of it happening again in the same "arena" .....simply because accelerants have more than one purpose, besides being used by arsonist/pyros
I bet you wouldnt dare to say that to a family member of one of the victims
yay you *golf clap*

Theatres and such DO have smoke alarms and sprinkler systems, it's part of the building code.

What about getting guns on the black market ? Gun control won't stop anyone.

So the theater beefs up fire security. So then the guy uses a bomb or poison gas.
