But prophecy states that Israel shall be again and God shall watch over it. So, does Israel require the US as God's protector? If Israel is that Israel of prophecy then it needs and is promised God's protection, not that of the US. Unless, and of course, God's protection is His use of the US being but illustrative at this moment.

It is an honor to serve the Almighty God and a dishonor to refuse Him. If we have an opportunity to serve His will, it is incumbent upon us to do so. The same could be said of all nations of the world. It is not why, but who. Have we grown wary of faithfulness? Has it become our intention to marry Jezebel, thus allowing "temples of Baal to operate in Israel"? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jezebel

I think we're suppose to feel "liberated" by knowing his "great truth" Vincent.
Funny, at that moment of enlightenment, I expected to feel differently. I still have cramps... Oh well, time for a few more evening primrose oils.

Islamists believe in righteous conduct and so do Christians. Is that the point of contention? The answer is obviously no. That is not the point of contention. I believe you are finding profundity where there is none to be found. Perhaps one day after making war, the Islamists and Christians will make love.

The point of contention is that whether I over-run your villiages, rape your wives, disembowel your children, occupy your vinyards, or crash commercial airplanes into your tallest buildings I can justify my awfulness in the name of honorable service to the Almighty God. Just serving His Will yanno.

Many religions are guilty of the above - it is simply a question of what time period of history one chooses to focus on. Islam is in what I like to refer to as its "Spanish Inquisition" period. I think for people of other faiths who lived during the Spanish Inquisition it was probably very difficult to envision Christianity as a benevolent force in the world. I'm sure the various people of various faiths who were literally tortured to death in the name of the Christian god would have a lot to say about this topic generally.

People do bad things in the name of religion and in the name of their "gods". This is a simple reality of human history.

I find that it is not helpful to claim one side is necessarily worse or better than the other. Evil done in "god's" name is still evil, regardless of one's religion.

The solutions in the Middle East are going to be difficult. But I will say this. One thing that would help is for America to try to reach out to Islamic moderates throughout the world. Arab is not the same as Islam. There are many Muslims who are NOT Arab. And Islam is not the same as terrorist. There are many Muslim people who are moderates. What has happened in the world is that the issue of Israel, instead of being about Palestinians and Jews trying to come to peaceful terms within a geo-political unit (or two) has, instead, become a worldwide conflict of Islam against America and Israel. It is confusing the issue, and making it practically impossible to move forward.

Perhaps it is impossible to roll back, but the more we continue to antagonize Islam as an overall group/religion, the more likely even moderate non-Arab Muslims will take on an antagonistic stance on the Israel issue. I don't dispute that Islamic terrorists have done what you state. I simply dispute labeling all Islamic people in the way you have. The more we do this the more difficult we make it to build any bridges between moderate Islam, and non-Arab Islam and the rest of the world. And I'm not sure how this helps anyone.

Israel...hmmm lot to say about that countrie..... but not even one good thing...

First of all i ain't going to discuss the legal state of an countrie, not one countrie is legal or illigal, a countrie exist or it doesn't exist.

well... the problem with Israel is very simple, they don't want peace.... the AL sended multiple proposals to Israel:

-Israel should have to retreat from the occupied Palestinian lands.
-Israel should recognize Palestine.
-Israel should get rid of the Palestinian wall.

if they did so the AL would:

-recognize Isreal.
-form a neutral diplomatic way to Israel.
-start trading with Israel.

the AL sended this multiple times throug a Swiss diplomat, Israel refused them all.... conclusion... Israel does not want peace.

People talk about Israel like if its the holy land... well its not... the bible was written after the year 0.... before that time there was no Israel.
Egypt conquerd it and named it Palestine
The Romans conquerd it and named it Israel (then the bible whas written)
The Byzantian empire conquerd it and named it Israel
.........
.........
The Ottoman empire conquerd it and named it Palestine
Great Brittain conquerd it and named it Palestine

after that it splitted up in Jordan, Israel and Palestine.

Israel thinks its has the rights to those lands...well they don't, nobody has the right on any land... countries come and go...
Israel called itself a Jewish state... well there don't live any Jews in Israel... why? becouse the Jews have to wait for the Prophet to return, then they need to go to Israel... so the "Jews" in Israel aren't Jews but just filty Zionists....

and the Holocaust is just a fairytale they use to start wars and abuse human rights!

My point exactly, FTP.

A confusion of terms, FTP. The world of Islam is heterogenious as to their myths and scriptures. I use the word Islamist in place of terrorists or extremists because those terms are emotionally loaded. Islamists in my lexicon are fundamentalist or purist Muslims. I do not equate Islamists with all Muslims. Just as there are Jews who are not Orthodox there are Muslims who are not Islamists. Your moderate Muslims. But there is a political/religious/ethnic conflict, as I understand it, between Islamists and Muslims and other Muslims. And between Shia and Sunni, between Arab and Turk, Kurd and Persian, Afghani and Pushtan and Pakistani. They are all Muslim but there are historical lines of friction between them. So, who among these welcome an Israeli state? And if they do how does it play into their own political/religious/ethnic interests?

quote:

What has happened in the world is that the issue of Israel, instead of being about Palestinians and Jews trying to come to peaceful terms within a geo-political unit (or two) has, instead, become a worldwide conflict of Islam against America and Israel. It is confusing the issue, and making it practically impossible to move forward.

Disagree. Israel was born out of years of Zionist immigration, the dismemberment of Ottoman Empire, the decline of British Empire, the guilt/chaos of the European Holocaust, and the dawn of the Russian/American Cold War. All of these were factors, as I understand it, and in the face of resistence from the people of Palestine. President Truman was not eager to get on board, and President Eisenhower forced Israel back from their attack on Suez (do I have that right?) When did the United States become an ally of Israel? What is our strategic interest? How is our support for Israel seen in the light of our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and other incursions we have made into the affairs of ME nations? In light of our support for ME and North African dictators? Maybe we should look into the mirror and answer these questions before we point the finger of blame elsewhere.

Israel continues to occupy Palestinian territory in contradiction of the Oslo Accords of 1993. How can there be a solution as long as Israeli troops and settlements choke the Palestinian economy and spirit?

By way of interest and to illustrate the chaos in Europe post WWII, my neighbor Alex, who passed away this year, was liberated from a Nazi camp and drifted down to Yugoslavia. From there to a refugee camp in Crete. Then three years in the Israeli Defense Forces before migrating to Canada with forged papers. Amazing and poignant story of true grit. He worked night and day for two years to get his wife and child from Israel to Canada. Just sharing some personal knowledge.

Excuse me. Can you explain why you are addressing your comments to me? I did not remark upon your ignorance and stupidity.

But since you have may I ask you to elaborate on your statement that 'recognizing the Holocaust is just racism'?

I'm sorry, it was meant for politesub53, my first time here so don't know how it all works;)

Well... the Holocaust is refering to Jews only... i see that as discirmination against all other people that where killed by the Nazi's, like the Gypsies, Gay people, Slavic people, Jehovah's Witnesses and handicapped people.
I hope you understand what i'm trying to say, people forget about the other groups that where killed by the Nazi's, and only talk about the Jews.

I am glad you have clarified your statements on the Holocaust, as your earlier posts sounded suspiciously akin to anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial, neither of which have any place in this discussion.

Unfortunately this sloppy language has obscured the basic point here, which is; Why are Palestinians paying the price for the crimes of the Nazis? Why is the Holocaust being used to justify Palestinians being killed by the IDF and ethnically cleansed from their land in the name of a genocide that occurred on a different continent over half a century ago, something that the Palestinians had no part in?

There are innumerable valid reasons to justify criticism of Israeli policy and behaviour in Occupied Palestine. Your post mentioned some of these reasons. Why not stick to those valid reasons? Bringing up the Holocaust, particularly in the loose, sloppy language your first post displayed, just plays into the hands of the Zionist lobby, who like nothing better than to (falsely) frame the discussion of Occupied Palestine in terms of anti-Semitism.

The Israeli Gouverment thinks it owns the whole land... but its just a matter of time before Israel has disappeared;)
