Lucylastic -> Obama Net Positive For Job Creation Since He Took Office (9/28/2012 11:52:26 AM)

New data released this morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that the private-sector added 450,000 more jobs as of March 2012 than previously thought. This means that the economy has crossed the threshold and more jobs have been created than lost during President Obama’s term.
This is a remarkable accomplishment—and one that would not have happened without the Recovery Act and other policies developed by this administration and passed by the 111th Congress in 2009.

When President Obama was sworn in, the economy was losing jobs to the unprecedented tune of over 20,000 per day. Between the beginning of 2008 and February 2010 when the tide began to turn, the economy lost nearly 8.8 million jobs—4.3 million on Obama’s watch and almost 4.5 million under President Bush’s.

In February 2009, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was signed into law and funds began almost immediately moving their way through the economy and the pace of job losses slowed, turning positive a year later. Since February 2010, including the newly revised data, the economy has added 4.4 million total payroll jobs, an average of 135,00 per month.

Even so, today’s data contained another glaring statistic: the economy has lost more than 700,000 public sector jobs since 2009, holding back the overall recovery. Without those losses, our unemployment rate would be at least a full point lower.

The data released today is part of the Bureau of Labor Statistics annual benchmark revisions to the establishment data and the magnitude of the revision is consistent with prior years, about plus or minus 0.3 percent. The establishment data includes all employers who pay into the unemployment insurance system, which is virtually every employer. Most firms file monthly reports for their payroll taxes, but some are late, some firms go out of business, some start up. Thus, once a year, the BLS sits down with the final UI payroll tax data to update the data previously released.

As the following chart shows, the economy has now added private sector jobs for 30 consecutive months:[image]http://thinkprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/jobschart2.png[/image]

What a cherry picking crock. Last month was reported ~90K while 4x that rolled off the official count. Disability via SS is rising as another means of survival.

Ya know, the BLS could remove all but one person from the labor pool, show him having a job and we'd have 100% employment. [8D]

If there had been a bi-partisan ethic in congress, and an enthusiasm for congressional governance, the numbers could have towered over what we see cumulatively. So sad on party SET OUT to concentrate on a stalemate for the purpose of  undermining the executive branch.

FR, lmao yeah the just happened to find all these jobs 40 days before a reelection... Lets add how many were lost compared to how many were "created".

Good point.. because in real terms, layoffs are the stepchildren of the so-called "job creators" ... They're pretty upset their alleged "leaving Obama's side (were they there in the first place???), has had no effect on "likely voter" estimates in favor of Obama.

Only in progressive speak is Bush's 3.3% GDP a recession and Obama's 1.3% GDP the road to recovery...

you thought the recovery was going to be fast???
why, what on earth gave you that idea???
After shedding 8 million jobs??? what world do you live in?

Uh, look, when the GDP is also shrinking... and it shouldn't be based on GDP anyway, thats a fubar number in reality, it hasn't the meaning it once did.

Please remember that 3.3% was stoked by body bags of soldiers coming back from a war fought so Bush and Cheney could profit from death.

That is a typically inept rightwing analogy, no one acutally saw the pumps pumping other than the archeitect when inspecting the hold.

Personally Ron, it disgusts me when men put themselves out there for a flogging from two elegant women and then balk because it isn't the hands of the horrific deliverers they are accustomed to.

What inept? Either the analogy holds water (yuk yuk) or it doesn't. [:D]

Greetings,

Let's see, lets get away from the amazing graph and bubbling expressions of praise for Obama's newly found economic performance rating and think for a second. We need consider only two points.

One. If Obama gained more jobs than lost since taking office but the unemployment rate remains above the 8.0 rate threshold he swore it must get under or he was a one term President then I guess this is an amazing accomplishment for a one term president.

Two. For this to be a positive statistic then the unemployment rate must be reduced and it has not gone under 8.0 for months and months and months and you guessed, it more months. So, this means something is wrong. This does not add up does it? It might because the unemployment rate is based on unemployment claims and since the rate remains pretty much at it's same dismal 8.something percent then the encreased employment figures do not include those Americans who lost jobs and filed for unemployment but instead arestacked with low paying jobs filled by those who never filed for unemployment. Hmmm, who would that be, ah yes, the illegal Americans and this jives with the statistic released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics saying the majority of all new jobs created during Obama's wonderful economic recovery since are low paying unskilled. Actually, if you look closely they are below the minimum needed to support a person in today's economy, which means the same people are working two jobs to live, thus you now have two for one in the job count.

Yes. That is the Obama way.

While a majority of jobs lost during the downturn were in the middle range of wages, a majority of those added during the recovery have been low paying, according to a new report from the National Employment Law Project.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has released its occupational employment and wages report for May 2010. The ten largest occupations in May 2010 accounted for more than 20 percent of total employment.Nine out of ten of these occupations are relatively low-paying jobs, meaning jobs that paid less than the U.S. mean hourly wage of $21.35.

I am sorry your stats are not more meaningful as I would hope people really were getting back to work.

Well wishes
Arturas
