Look at the stats closer, Lucylastic. The Federal Government still has a net increase from when Obama took office. It's the State and Local governments that are dropping employees, which the Federal Government isn't responsible for hiring, firing, or retaining.

mnottertail -> RE: Obama Net Positive For Job Creation Since He Took Office (9/29/2012 7:05:28 AM)

Where are those numbers, I can find none that are verified beyond 2010 (census year, btw)

Lucylastic -> RE: Obama Net Positive For Job Creation Since He Took Office (9/29/2012 7:24:40 AM)

thats why I mentioned the repubs taking over the house in 2010... they are state workers out of a job, they still add to the numbers, firemen, teachers, etc etc..
and what did they run on??? jobs jobs jobs, just not keeping what lots of people see as "important ones" apparently...

Oh, so the Federal Government is in charge of State and Local hiring now?

Obama's "shrinking of government" isn't shrinking of government that he has any control over. The Federal government, which he has some control over, has grown while State and Local government has lost.

subrob1967 -> RE: Obama Net Positive For Job Creation Since He Took Office (9/29/2012 6:55:26 PM)

Only a progressive would point to temporary holiday job hiring and say ""hey look, people are being hired again, that durn Obama's kicking ass and taking names!"

Keep praying for that October miracle, Obama's toast.

I dont think you are reading me correctly because that is what I said.. States have made 700,000 unemployed.... dont they count as employment(or rather unemployment figures?)

Plus Government has been shrinking steadily for two years, and compared to the size of the overall economy, government is actually slightly smaller today than it has been on average in the postwar era.

Both Republicans and Democrats have taken turns to undermine the Banking act of 1933, Clinton, Bush, Obama have all placed the fox in charge of the hen house, FDR might roll in his grave. Imo, we are facing a systemic problem, the economic system itself should be re-evaluated. Money creates inherent conflicts of interests, generally speaking its created out of nothing through the fraudulent fractional reserve system. Corporations are hierarchies given too much power, concentration of wealth is concentration of power which becomes corrosive for democracy. All of which is on top of the Petro Dollar hegemony, which in the end is money backed by US bombs.

I'm reminded of RFK's speech about GDP http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5P6b9688K2g

So, we have government increasing under Bush and the R's to the tune of 1.26M. Federal government soared (-)22K, of which 12.4K of that was loss to the USPS (meaning non-USPS Federal Government increased 90.4K). Under Bush and the D-led Congress, Government increased 481K, with the Federal Government increasing 59K. With UPS losing 38.7K, non USPS Federal employees increased 97.7K (7,300 more Federal, non USPS employees in 2 years compared to the previous 6 years). State Government increased 282K, including 266.8K increase in State education employees under Bush and the R's. Under Bush and the D's State government increased 111K, with State education rising 81K. Under Bush and the R's, Local government employees increased by 1M, including 575.1K educators. Under Bush and the D's, Local government increased 183.8K, including 126.5K educators.

Under Obama and the D's, Government dropped 327K. The Federal government increased by 83K, even though the USPS droppped 82.8K employees, making non-USPS employee numbers increase 165.8K. State government has decreased 73K, including an increase of 12.4K State Educators (loss of 85.5K non Education State government employees). Local government employment dropped 337K, broken down into losses of 198.7 non-education employees, and losses of 137.5K local educators.

With Congress split between the parties, all government employment dropped 258K, including 42K loss in federal government (16K loss outside USPS; 26K loss in USPS). State employment dropped 73K (75.4K loss outside education, and a 2.7K increase in State education employment). Local government lost 143K jobs (52.7K loss in local,non-education employment, and 90.4K loss in local educators.

Is that good enough for you, mn/Lucy?

New data released this morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that the private-sector added 450,000 more jobs as of March 2012 than previously thought. This means that the economy has crossed the threshold and more jobs have been created than lost during President Obama’s term.
This is a remarkable accomplishment—and one that would not have happened without the Recovery Act and other policies developed by this administration and passed by the 111th Congress in 2009.

When President Obama was sworn in, the economy was losing jobs to the unprecedented tune of over 20,000 per day. Between the beginning of 2008 and February 2010 when the tide began to turn, the economy lost nearly 8.8 million jobs—4.3 million on Obama’s watch and almost 4.5 million under President Bush’s.

In February 2009, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was signed into law and funds began almost immediately moving their way through the economy and the pace of job losses slowed, turning positive a year later. Since February 2010, including the newly revised data, the economy has added 4.4 million total payroll jobs, an average of 135,00 per month.

Even so, today’s data contained another glaring statistic: the economy has lost more than 700,000 public sector jobs since 2009, holding back the overall recovery. Without those losses, our unemployment rate would be at least a full point lower.

The data released today is part of the Bureau of Labor Statistics annual benchmark revisions to the establishment data and the magnitude of the revision is consistent with prior years, about plus or minus 0.3 percent. The establishment data includes all employers who pay into the unemployment insurance system, which is virtually every employer. Most firms file monthly reports for their payroll taxes, but some are late, some firms go out of business, some start up. Thus, once a year, the BLS sits down with the final UI payroll tax data to update the data previously released.

As the following chart shows, the economy has now added private sector jobs for 30 consecutive months:[image]http://thinkprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/jobschart2.png[/image]

Except for one rather salient fact:

11 million new entrants to the work place since his election are now part of the counts (hence why we have 17 million out of work).

What a cherry picking crock. Last month was reported ~90K while 4x that rolled off the official count. Disability via SS is rising as another means of survival.

Ya know, the BLS could remove all but one person from the labor pool, show him having a job and we'd have 100% employment. [8D]

Then by all means show us your data and sources
This is jobs created... not unemployment numbers.....

Very factual Lucy, except that if it requires 100 buckets of food to feed 100 people and the population was 100 at the time of that deduction, then suddenly there were only 90 buckets of food...(job losses) people go hungry....right?

Now, add in 4 years of population growth and others entering the labor market and now we have 120 people needing to be fed.

Suddenly, we get word that we're now producing 100 buckets of food....great news, back to where we started yeah? Food production (jobs) has/have risen.

We now have 20 people that don't get to eat.

Statistics don't lie. Statisticians however, do.

Uh, look, when the GDP is also shrinking... and it shouldn't be based on GDP anyway, thats a fubar number in reality, it hasn't the meaning it once did.

More so considering that GDP is fabricated by govt. purchases to inflate same.

I do Rob. I pray that the Republican party in all it's New found femininity, doesn't show up at the emergency room claiming they were 'raped', demanding the authorities charge the President be charged with the crime.
Yeah, GOPers look THAT PATHETIC these days. If it isn't racism up in.mass it''s crazed.remarks like that above. Seeking attention and trying to derail a legitimate discussion.

No, I admit that, contrary to the happy dance that everyone seems to be doing about the fact that we've now recaptured those jobs that were lost, there are now more hungry people than the day he started his Presidency.

That ain't a win no matter which President was responsible.

CONSTRUCTED metaphor in your specious arguments.

At least with your reference to worker population growth you establish "the job creators" of republican mythology, continue to bring illegals in to steal American jobs, never mind the time honored tradition of outsourcing they maintain, even to this day.
