I have a hernia,my Doctor say's it isn't,at this point "operable".
Meaning he doesn't think it is necessary to have surgery to fix it,not at this point. It "floats" in my groin area and can be pushed back with ease.
But it seems at times to become immobile ,hard, and impossible to push back in.This has happened twice, both times causing me intense pain(and I'm on pain meds for my bad back)that brings me to my knees....the last episode, last night, left me rolling on a bathroom floor for a good 45 minutes....than ,just like that,it went back in...it is once again "floating" and goes right back in.
My question is this: Does anyone else know what I'm talking about ? Have any ideas how to deal with it when this happens again (which in my heart I know will be at an inopportune time) ?
Anything that might be helpful, any strategy that might be more effective than rolling on the floor in pain.
I know I will need surgery, but in one sense I agree with my Doctor....put it off as long as I can....lol

Rub some dirt on it and walk it off. You'll be fine.

without even looking, I am willing to bet that rules post blames circumcision for the hernia.

I would be getting a second opinion and having it operated on.

Hernias can be stable for a time but the 'hole' in the abdominal wall can stretch and also scar slightly around it's edges. That hard, immobile lump that pokes through? Is probably a combination of intestine and fat. When intestine and fat is being constricted like that, it stops bloodflow to that area and you are at risk of tissue death (and a much bigger surgery).

If you have any questions about the surgery I'm more than happy to help.

If I'm not mistaken, there are some types of hernias that can burst. It can be very serious if that were to happen..

Thanks guys...servant ,I didn't think/know that hernia's could burst,I thought that was appendixes ...but you could fill a book with what I don't know so you could be right.
Everyone else I appreciate the advice,I have made my decision,I don't need another doctor or a second opinion....all I need do,and will do come Monday is call my present Doctor and be a bit more forceful with him about what is going on and demand a surgical referral immediately.
That should more than address this situation ,after consulting with a surgeon I feel real confident we will choose a date and I will have another little scar(Dammit I have way too many "zippers" all over my body, neck and chiefly back area....lol,I guess one more will simply blend in....lol)

Yeah, sorry, but if you're in that much pain, get a second opinion! That's just ridiculous. There is no reason you should be hurting like that when it can be corrected. I'm pissed at doctors right now for them being idiots and I wished I had gotten a second opinion.

Get one.

you have an inguinal hernia from the sound of it.

Sudden pain, nausea, and vomiting are signs that a part of your intestine may have become trapped in the hernia. Call your doctor if you have a hernia and have these symptoms.

http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/tc/inguinal-hernia-topic-overview

Only way to fix it is surgery, babe.

Get a second opinion, find a specialist in your area.

Folks I'm back ....I get it ,I really do,and I'm a little pissed at my Doc's laid back approach to this.So I will call him Monday and DEMAND a surgical referral.....but even so there is going to be some lag time.I'm not about to go into a ER and feign some over the top pain so that it is seen to on an emergency basis.
So given that does anyone have any idea how I can lessen the pain when it goes immobile ? I know about the truss option...that just might help me avoid it popping at,but if and when it does(and goes "hot") is there anything I can do ?

I've had a hernia exactly as you describe. It got worse over time and had to be operated on. I would have been better off if it had been repaired when the tear was still small.

The emergency room option just might wind up being the way I go,I'm having a bad day with this and my feelings are torn between anger at my Doctor and self loathing for the misplaced deference I exhibited in accepting his opinion that this wasn't yet surgical.
I was in his office due to a horrible night of pain I had just went thru, why didn't I speak up and demand a referral at that time !
