PeonForHer -> Men are Dogs (12/30/2012 11:17:06 AM)

I read on another forum, recently, that women view men pretty much like people view dogs. That is, that men are big, smelly, rough and simple.

Is this correct? Seriously, I sometimes look at women and think, 'How do you see us? If we men see you women as kind of squealy, twittery and prim, do you see we men as like large, coarse and a bit less than human?'

OK, the bottom line is: I *know* how I see females. But, really, I haven't a frigging clue how females see me, or see men in general.

rhymeswithcupid -> RE: Men are Dogs (12/30/2012 11:22:33 AM)

I try to see each man for himself rather than viewing men in general. Some men *are* like dogs ... Big, smelly, rough and simple. Some men are worthy of far more respect, however and other are worthy of far less respect (than I would give my dog) ... It all just depends on who he chooses to be.

I really hope people don't see me as squealy, twittery and prim though. How embarrassing.

ROOF ROOF HOWOOOOOOWOWOWL

SinFix -> RE: Men are Dogs (12/30/2012 11:27:16 AM)

No, I do not see men like that. Sure some are rough, but then again so are some women. I view everyone as a person; their thoughts, emotions, ideas, and desires are fascinating to me.

DesFIP -> RE: Men are Dogs (12/30/2012 11:27:51 AM)

Well, dogs can also be chihuahuas. Tiny and suspicious and fearful.

I hope I don't see men as a hive, all interchangeable.

It isn't how I view men in general, but how I need to view the man in my life.

JeffBC -> RE: Men are Dogs (12/30/2012 11:28:22 AM)

I don't think women know how they see men. Think about the early days of feminism before people understood the invisible cultural traps.

Yup, it's my impression that the vast majority of women think that men are defective women. I don't think it's their fault. I think they are caught in a society which tells them this.

It was fascinating to read a recent thread where some mothers were horrified at the lessons their sons were learning in school at very early ages... "You're not as smart as girls." "You're not as couth as girls", etc.

most men are like dogs, unfortunately. i go into every relationship with an open mind & they always end up disappointing

ResidentSadist -> RE: Men are Dogs (12/30/2012 11:32:08 AM)

I think men are dogs and have a pact mentality. But so do women. If your bark is big enough, women roll over and show you their bellies. I am defiantly a dog. Not a smelly one though. I am a well groomed city dog with sunglasses:

I think lance is a dog too.

FR

All the men I've ever known well have been really great stand-up guys, so while I'm sure I must have some generalisations about men, I don't think they're particularly negative because my experiences have been good.

I have heard some generalisations thrown around by groups of women which actually make me kind of annoyed on men's behalf. I used to go on a pregnancy site that had a lot of 'men are useless/men are incapable of parenting/men are overgrown children' which annoyed me. In fact, often it was almost used to excuse the behaviour of certain bad apples - as in 'Yeh he spent all day on x box and refused to help me even look after the children and I'm 9 months pregnant and have the flu - but you know, men are like that'. Insulting to men I think. My husband gets really angry whenever he is accused of having 'man flu' if he gets sick, he says that women jump on man-flu as a way of calling them soft and lazy whenever they dare to sneeze. In my mind though man-flu is the equivalent of men who say a woman must be on the rag whenever she's upset about something.

In our family we will joke about gender stereotypes. The men might joke about sending the women out to buy something pretty, or we might make some offhand comment about leaving the guys with beer and an action movie. We also joke about 'blue jobs and pink jobs' - men take out the trash, change the oil, get rid of spiders, women make the beds, wrap presents and iron clothes. It is only in jest though, none of us believe it.

TheLilSquaw -> RE: Men are Dogs (12/30/2012 11:38:00 AM)

I don't compare men to dogs.
I know my man isn't a dog.
I also don't believe that men have a pact mentality at least not the men I know.
Nor have I ever thought of men as defective women.

Hell, it's women who can't even take a piss without 3 of her friends tagging along for company. Lol

Blankpain -> RE: Men are Dogs (12/30/2012 11:39:31 AM)

Men are as simple as dogs.
Take care of them, and they will follow you around everywhere, get your slippers, lick your feet, and guard you from all evil with their very life!

Women, on the other hand, are deliciously complicated.
The best part about women is that women don't even know what they are - that's how complex it is.

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: Men are Dogs (12/30/2012 11:41:20 AM)

I don't recall ever thinking men, as a group, were like dogs, but I certainly understand the comparison based on the behavior of a significant proportion of the men who roll into Ask A Mistress to hump our legs, metaphorically speaking. I like men and I tend to get along better with men than with women. I just don't always like how men behave, but I like how women tend to behave even less. Oh hell, I'm a misanthrope. I just don't like humans. I'd rather socialize with a dog.

Damn the men in my life would be flat out insulted if I described them like this.

sexyred1 -> RE: Men are Dogs (12/30/2012 11:44:41 AM)

squealy, twittery and prim? LOL

That is funny. I doubt I or any of my friends could ever be classfied that way.

As for men being dogs, it depends on your definition of a dog's qualities.

Good qualities:
Unconditional love
Great companion
Likes being petted
Loyal
Will lick you anytime
Protective
Part of family
Ferocious when needed

Bad qualities:
Smells
Bad breath
Eats sloppily
Wants to hump everything in site
Bites sometimes (athough that could be good)
Has to be walked
Pees on floor

All generalizations are stupid.

Destreid -> RE: Men are Dogs (12/30/2012 11:49:01 AM)

People are dogs. Or to be more precise, sheep in dog's clothing.

Women are no different. Where do you think the term "bitch" comes from?

You can't socialise with a dog, Sylvere. You can only socialise with other humans. It's contained in the definition.
