but the gun owner IS to blame, he bought it....unintentionally made it available by not making it secure enough to NOT have it be stolen, and IS the person who started to process for that gun to be used on another human being by buying it in the first place.

We keep giving the responseablity away to anybody other than the people involved ......the thief,...the gun owner he stole from, and the seller of the gun, and lastly the maker of the gun who knows damn well the only reason for making that gun to exist, IS to kill another human being.

That's really a false equivalency.

Groups we’d see before the gun control groups we have now, if they were really concerned about saving children:

Coalition for Better Seatbelts

Brady Campaign Against Swimming Pools and Large Buckets

Coalition Against Plastic Bags

National Coalition to Ban Dangerous Household Chemicals

Pedestrian Policy Center

Medical Community Against Bicycles

Mayors Against Tall Stairs

Choking deaths (up to 77 per year) due to hot dogs are about the same as *accidental* gun deaths of kids. It must be a huge problem ! We should circulate a petition for safer hotdogs. I think if we reduced the dog from 20 cm to 7cm we'd all be safer. It's for the children. No more death due to hot dog choking.

He would be to blame for not securing it (or she). Not for any murders committed.

Neither the stealing, nor the use of the weapon in commiting further crimes.

Half a million guns are stolen each year despite all the protestations of people saying they are responsible gun owners. That means, half a million guns, each year, find their way into hands that legally are not supposed to own them.

And you dont see a problem with this?

I ticked the 'I don't want gun laws like the US' and I notice no one has ticked that they would. To be honest most of the Western world is amazed that America still allows guns to be so freely available. We can understand why they are in the Third World because desperate people living in poverty and without any significant law enforcement need them, but not in the West.

Clearly most gun laws in America are based in the frontier mentality of fighting to take control of an untamed land, but that was a long time now, and the World has changed. The reason America has far more shootings than other countries is not because it has any more lunatics than anywhere else, it's just that those that do can get access to guns.

I suppose the school shootings lead to a simple question, what does America love most, it's kids or it's guns? The answer appears to be the latter, and it is this the rest of the World finds hard to understand.

According to this site "In the past 10 years, the death toll has amounted to 32,298. As such road crashes are the largest single cause of accidental death for people aged between 5 and 35 years. "

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8412891.stm

So tell me, what does the UK love most, it's kids or it's cars. The answer appears to be the latter. I find that hard to understand.

One thing I find interesting is how the gun control argument centers around need. As in "Nobody needs a gun like that". I can't think of another right that has ever had to meet the standard of need. Rosa Parks didn't have to show why she needed to ride in the front of the bus. It was a right - it was not based on need. Abortion? How many women who have them every year really need them? Doesn't seem to matter. The SCOTUS says it's a right. It's not based on need. Suddenly a right that it printed out in black and white in the Constitution has to meet a standard of need. Makes you wonder if we aren't really the United States of New York.

I dont care if you need them or not. Have all you want. But just be responsible for what you own. 500,000 stolen guns a year tells me not everyone is.

WOW, the government isnt doing a very good job protecting its citizens rights to enjoy property are they?

That is after all the sole purpose for its creation.

Sure, but the problem I see is the moron breaking into another person's home.

I see it as a problem from both sides. Homes are easy to break into.. so are cars... the two places most people keep guns. I hear all the complaining about the love of guns, the rights to have guns, the money spent on guns... and they trust all that to a flimsy lock on a door?

You cant find a gun safe somewhere capable of holding your weapons?

Cant attach a home alarm system?

Cant figure out a way to secure your weapons?

Then dont... if I had my way, you would be sitting in jail.

cant hang the perp that would steal them?

Why should every person in america buy a safe, an alarm, post armed guards at every corner of the home when a simple 50 cent bullet assures them that the perp will never steal another gun again?

Death penalty for stealing guns.

You want to use the state to force me, then fine pass a death penalty law and put the blame and the punishment and the expense squarely where it should be.
