Most likely.

I generally don't eat a lot processed food, so I don't have a lot of exposure to most of that stuff on a regular basis.

20 carbs all at once is enough to give ME that "drunk" feeling too

I usually eat somewhere between 50 and 80 grams a day. Plus, I think I'm wheat sensitive. So, when I eat anything like bread or pasta, I get a hang over feeling about an hour later.

I am limited to 60 carbs per meal. Its a lot, actually, yet not all that much depending on what I eat. A bagel with breakfast can eat those carbs up quickly.

I tend to eat a South Beach-ish type diet, so I rarely eat bread, potatoes, pasta, sugar, rice, etc. Master teases me that the only white stuff I eat is dairy and him....

I did check them. In fact I switched from crystal light, which i loved, but i found out they had aspartame, and red dyes and yellow dyes and a bunch of preservatives, which I am making an effort not to have.

Lipton has no preservatives, no dyes, nothing hinky to keep it shelf stable. In fact that's something I am not used to and 4 of my Liptons I had made an forgot about actually rotted* booooooooo hisssssssssssss hissssssss* I am used to crystal lights that stay good for about 4/5 days because of all the fake stuff in it. Lipton will only stay good one or two days. two is pushing it.

yes it has sucrose in it, but I am willing to over look that.

Tfb: how many grams of sugar is in the Lipton stuff?
Keep in mind that a serving size is usually 8 ounces, sometimes less and most people have glasses that hold much more than 8 ounces.

Sucrose is sugar.

IF you drink a lot of it, you need to remember that those grams of sugar do add up.

seriously I feel like I am on a boat that is being tipped from side to side an like I could face plant at any moment or pass out . i feel "drunk with out all the fun"

i had dinner an 35 minutes later I started feeling not so good, tested an it was 244.

I test human blood and what we find from diabetics is that they produce acetone, which is an alcohol, when their blood sugar sky rockets. It causes the effects that you speak of. My understanding of the situation is that it is caused by ketoacidosis (when there is an insulin deficiency.) My best guess is that it's probably caused by something you ate or drank. You probably need to be more proactive.

I haven't had anything to eat prior to last night. Lunch at 2 o clock was the first thing all day I had to eat. Same with drinking. haven't had anything to drink all day an all night.

Bad idea.

You need to eat and drink frequently.
Small tidbits - but healthy ones, not biscuits or chips or stuff like that.
Very small meals, up to 4 or 5 a day. Not one main meal and starve the rest.

Plenty of fluids - but not sodas or fruit juices.

Cereals are good for a diabetic rather than carbs.
They tend to be more fulfilling and they release energy slowly.

I think you've nailed it.

How cute is that?!

One gram, per half a packet. So a whole packet would be two. But I only use half a pack. I get the grab and gos, they go in a 16 ounce water bottle.

Yes, but I was wanting a personalized plan, and they said sorry we dont do that. I didnt get much coaching, but I did get an idea about calories affecting how many carbs I can have. 1,800 for example is 40, 2000 is 65.. And I need to have exactly thafor accuracy of my bs. I cant, or at least I shouldnt be short. Its not good to be.

FR~~

Have you seen a registered dietician TFB? When I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes I spent several sessions with a dietician specializing in diabetic diet. I learned a lot about proteins and carbs. Listen to what MAINEiacMISTRESS is telling you. Obviously, she's done some research on this.

Changing one's diet often means learning to include foods we aren't particularly crazy about. You have to find ways to like them. It's a matter of good health and survival.

I grew up with bad eating habits. My mother didn't have time to cook or plan meals and we ate a lot of processed, sugary, fatty foods. After developing a taste for that it's not easy to break away from it. But, you have to do it.

How many hours should I eat. I wake up at 9 and I have a boost diabetic shake.

Roughly, you should eat something within 1 hour of waking up, then every 3-4 hours after that. At least a little protein should be included in each meal.

I'm not a fan of frankenfoods and you could probably make your own shake cheaper than buying something that filled with chemicals.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: how come when my blood sugar goes up super fast from mostly normal. i feel drunk, and tipsy as hell. (3/12/2013 2:58:22 PM)

Am I posta check bs after snacks too?

My doctor has said they are ok to have, so I will stick to what she says in regards to diabetic suppliments.

Thank you.

Eggs are proteins and fats.

Toppingfrmbottom -> Is it safe to assume a meal high on carbs and with only 18 g of protien will raise the bs pretty bad (3/14/2013 7:25:32 PM)

Today's dinner was a heaping cup full of brown rice topped in tomato sauce and then stewed tomato's and 3 meat balls. the meat balls were the only protein in the meal.

It was 10 carbs for the tomato sauce, and 4 for the 3 meat balls, and then i don't know how much carbs the rice had.

I chose to have 3 hard boiled eggs and the meat balls and less than 1/3rd a cup of the rice and hardly no sauce and two chunks of stewed tomato.

DarkSteven -> RE: Is it safe to assume a meal high on carbs and with only 18 g of protien will raise the bs pretty bad (3/14/2013 7:41:29 PM)

Oh, TFB, I attended a class for diabetics once and we were told that the sharps (lancets) that are used can be reused. Each day, you need a new one, but you can reuse it if you take multiple readings in a day. Maybe that might save you a few bucks.

Thank you:)

Medicare covers mine and they're totally free, I don't have to worry about saving them, but I reuse them anyway. at least for a few times, then once they get dull ish it makes the testing hurt worse.
