What did you eat or drint in the previous 2-3 hours??

That can make one helluva difference to your sugar levels.

ETA: sounds like your diabetic condition is "brittle" like mine - where the rate of change is just as dangerous as it being too high or too low.

I feel like that if I have something supersweet with nothing to mediate it - ice cream is ok for me because of the fat but apple juice whacks me out the way you describe.

What did you have for dinner?

What's your blood sugar supposed to be?

Your blood glucose level will usually go up after a meal but 244 is way above the normal range. Are you being followed by a doctor for your diabetes?

bs is supposed to be 100's. 108, to 145. 108 to 118 is prefered.

We had asparagus, and a sweet potato salad and a bisket and a tiny piece of chicken wing with a slight breading baked in oven not fried.

I'd say you need to have a real look at what you ate and drank.
I'd also suggest keeping a food log and testing log. So that you and your doctor can see what spikes your sugar or if there is a certain time of day it spikes.

Every 3 months????????

When I'm feeling a bit out-out-of-kilter, I test mine every 2 hours until it settles down.
You should have a home test kit so you can check yourself when needed.

I have no idea what they cost over there coz they are free here.
Even if I had to buy one it wouldn't cost more than $30 with 100 test strips.

I haven't had anything to eat prior to last night. Lunch at 2 o clock was the first thing all day I had to eat. Same with drinking. haven't had anything to drink all day an all night.

And when I went to bed I was 118. up from 108 before I ate dinner. And I wasn't supposed to test till 4 it was only 235 when I tested, I tested cause I feel drunk an tipsy, Which is my experience means i am to high, or to low.

It sounds like you had a lot of carbohydrates with not enough protein in that chicken wing to offset it. I'm not diabetic but, whenever I eat carbs(and I really control that), I always eat more protein to stabilize things too. If you're not watching your diet, the metformin can only do so much. BS should be between about 80 and 120.

yes I test at home everyday, and any time i feel off i test. but the 3 month test is a blood pannel an they test everything, a1c's fasting sugars, how you been doing the last 3 months. they test a sample of urine, to see how that's doing. They test your liver, see how it's doing. and my kidneys and liver were fine for a long time till this last test in December showed i am spilling protein, and I have a borderline liver what ever that means.

my kit is free it's covered by medicare.

That's what I had to do for the first 6 months after I was diagnosed with diabetes in 1999.
I had to log every single thing I ate and drank with the amount and date/time.

I found that fruit juices of any sort, or any type of carbonated drink (even the 'diet' ones) sent my readings thru the roof for the next 4-5 hours afterwards.
As much as I liked them, I had to lay off all fruit juices and fizzy drinks.
Coke (soda) is by far the worst of all.

Food wasn't quite so bad as long as it wasn't a sugar-laden dessert like trifle.

Bad idea.

You need to eat and drink frequently.
Small tidbits - but healthy ones, not biscuits or chips or stuff like that.
Very small meals, up to 4 or 5 a day. Not one main meal and starve the rest.
Plenty of fluids - but not sodas or fruit juices.

Cereals are good for a diabetic rather than carbs.
They tend to be more fulfilling and they release energy slowly.

Long before I was diabetic I loved juice, drank it a lot, believed all the claims it was healthy for you. Well i was trying to loose weight an i had cut everything else way down, had stopped eating so many junk tv dinners, had started walking an I was still piling on the pounds. Until I stopped drinking juice. Once I had stopped drinking juice I lost 30 pounds with no effort.

Now I don't drink juice at all unless it's a very and i mean very tiny sip.

By diet carbonation drinks do you mean the ones like Canadian clear which you get get in all kinds of "fruit "flavors and are sweetened with aspartame or splenda? Those hace zero affect on me but as the years wander on by, I find I do not like them.

I just wasn't hungry.

I am usually never hungry till mid day about 2 or 3 in the afternoon sometimes I am not hungry till 6 pm. personal bad habit I suppose. And I only drink water or Lipton take and go teas. I don't drink juices or soda's or diet soda's or lemonades or nothing. ok well correction, i loooooooooooooove ice tea with a packet or two of splenda, and I do drink lemonade on a very special occasion.

I personally find most cereals I'd be willing to eat very high sugar and very high carb, for a tiny 1/3 rd cup I don't eat cereals or oatmeal's at all. Just not worth it.

Just about anything carbonated that was flavoured.
Those flavourings are pure concentrated syrup - not to mention all the other E numbers in them.
People don't realise that even those advertised as "no added sugar" or "diet" are actually full of concentrated sugar syrup in the flavourings.

Short of carbonated water (and check the label to make sure it doesn't contain anything else) - avoid ALL carbonated drinks. Period.

You need to change your eating habits.
If you don't, your blood sugars are gonna be yoyo-ing forever.

Check those Lipton teas - they probably contain all sorts of things.
Make a proper cup of tea if you want one.
If you want a lemon tea - use real lemon juice in a proper cup of tea.
And if you like it with sugar - use real sugar because your body needs that to convert the nice things to glucose for your muscles and other body parts to work effeciently. Splenda and others can't do that like sugar can. This is one of the biggest mistakes that most diabetics make.
I don't use any sweeteners at all.

As for cereals...
Always buy the natural grain cereals.
Avoid those with frosting and the like.
Plain simple oats made with water. If it's too bland, add a little fresh fruit slices or some sugar or natural honey if you prefer.
Cornflakes. Weetabix. Bran flakes. Shredded Wheat. Puffed wheat (but not the sugar-coated one), Rice Crispies.... anything like that.
But none of the fancy ones with added honey, frosting, sugar coating etc - avoid them like the plague.

Make a habit of always having a breakfast when you get up.
Eat at least 3 small meals a day.
If you want to snack - eat raw carrots or celery.
Fresh fruits are good but in very small quantities. Something like ONE apple or banana or pear per day - no more than that.
Citrus fruit like oranges is deadly for sugar - so only half an orange or a small tangerine/clemantine.
Very important: if you like grapefruit - DON'T!! It containd some nasty substance that messes with medications - including metformin.

I was on metformin (2x500mg four times daily) until I changed my eating habits and diet.
Now I don't need any meds at all and haven't done for the last 10 years
It is well worth the effort to make the change.
And I don't eat 'healthy' at all - but all things in moderation.

I did check them. In fact I switched from crystal light, which i loved, but i found out they had aspartame, and red dyes and yellow dyes and a bunch of preservatives, which I am making an effort not to have.

Lipton has no preservatives, no dyes, nothing hinky to keep it shelf stable. In fact that's something I am not used to and 4 of my Liptons I had made an forgot about actually rotted* booooooooo hisssssssssssss hissssssss* I am used to crystal lights that stay good for about 4/5 days because of all the fake stuff in it. Lipton will only stay good one or two days. two is pushing it.

yes it has sucrose in it, but I am willing to over look that.

I think all those cereals you mention are disgusting and wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole not even with fresh fruit or something else added lol. pure and un adulterated card board , typed carb board at first, how funny is that.

I hate grape fruit have since I was a kid, so I am lucky there. And yeah my mom can't eat grape fruit on her high blood pressure pills.

I am working on eating healthy, there's just somethings I do not find it worth it to eat , nor do I like to / want to eat them any more. I would be perfectly peachy to cut out ice cream and cakes and cookies and doughnuts, and certain greasy fast food joints. Other than as a special occasion at the doughnut and tea social, I hadn't had a doughnut in so long i know it's been a year plus.

That's exactly it. The biscuit alone has 20 grams of carbs and you didn't eat enough protein or fat to slow down the absorption of carbs.
