FR

I tried playing Go Fish once with tarot cards. Not a success.

SDFemDom4cuck -> RE: Tarot Forum, Everyone & everybody welcome! (6/8/2013 11:12:06 AM)

I just realized I keep saying Michelangelo deck when I should be saying Leonardo Da Vinci. Ugh. My brain just still bloops on me sometimes. Grrr.

We're all going to have a nice set of links, books, and decks of cards b/c of this thread.

I called the court cards face cards, so I can relate. My excuse is that I'm sick (but you already *knew* that.)

The suit of Swords being associated with Air does have a cold wintery feel to it, I agree. Whereas I really do feel the connection of Wands to Summer. Again this is where an individuals intuition kicks in as if it feels right to you, go with the flow.

The question of timing is a tricky one isn't it? Personally I always think that if you ask a general question of the deck, you'll get a general answer. the more exact the question, the more exact the answer. For me I feel comfortable using the Celtic Cross on a three month time scale, others feel differently, it's not an exact science [:)]. If the question is asked within that time frame, the time frame will be reflected in the answer.

PurrKitty suggested the question of finding a job, now if there is a couple of aces & the magician in the spread, new beginnings, communications etc, it may very well be that within the time frame of the spread, there will be job opportunities, if the cards are unclear, it's possible that the job opportunities will come later, but, the cards will suggest ways of facilitating opportunities within the scope of the question. Whether you read a spread for over a three or six month period, the cards will be consistent to the reader, I'm hoping that's made sense, I'm not my best this time of night [:)].

A friend bought me the Leonardo Da Vinci Tarot set for my birthday, it's lovely, but, I really don't understand it at all. It's got a game thingy on the back of the cards hasn't it. The book's great, especially the overview of Leonardos' life. How do you get on with it?

Yes, the question of charging for a reading is a tricky one, especially as I'm not a professional reader. Although, I'm a firm believer that people have more respect for things they pay for. I don't charge, but I'm not averse to receiving gifts [:). A lady I gave a reading to a while ago made me some really lovely Tarot bags, I was very touched.
Giving a reading, like playing Chess, especially when you're giving it 100%, is mentally exhausting. I like the Celtic Cross, & that's what a lot of people expect anyway, I like Arthurs Sword & Merlins' Gateway, there's a nice little daily spread I use, that I've mentioned earlier.

I agree as well. I also noticed that when those that tended to take advantage of "free" readings heard that I might start to charge they didn't call quite so often. I decided that while I would not set a price per se I would accept whatever she felt the reading was worth. Mainly because she insisted on paying me for my time and knows that it is exhausting to do them. That , to me, is more acceptable than just charging for a reading at a set price. This same person is having a graduation party for her daughter and asked if I would be willing to come do readings at it for those that wanted one.

Are you going to do it? It's a lovely opportunity to be asked.

SDFemDom4cuck -> RE: Tarot Forum, Everyone & everybody welcome! (6/8/2013 4:35:22 PM)

Its a lovely set but I have difficulty using it for readings. The artwork is so different from what I am accustomed to with other decks. So while it is pretty to look at...I don't often use it for readings.

Re the readings for the party. I'm going to read her first and see what type of energy I get from her. Of course doing multiple readings can be exhausting physically and mentally so we have to discuss what kind of time period she has in mind. I haven't really decided yet.

Using fast reply

Rituals

From the substance of the cards to the procedure, how do you start your readings? I do it the way the books I use set it out, by putting the entire deck into numerical order, writing down my question, then spreading the deck on the surface in front of me face down and mushing the cards all around until I feel "done".

I don't do readings every day because of the hassle of first putting the deck into numerical order before a reading. I'd use the cards much more often if I didn't "have" to do that. Do you think it's necessary to start with the ordered deck?

What is your ritual?

Since no one else has chimed in yet I'll toss in my .02

I have never put the deck into order before a reading. I do a cleansing ritual and a meditation before reading. Ask the Goddess to help me to read the cards for the greatest good and clarity of the situation. I have a particular chant/prayer that I use. After a reading I do another cleanse and thank Her for Her guidance and cleanse any negative energies from the reading. Each is maybe a 5 min meditation and prayer. Both have changed numerous times over the years.

Last night I did a full moon cleansing. Laid them out in the light of the full moon to be cleansed and energized along with my pendulums, crystals, and other things. Will do the same during the Super Moon later this month.

Do what feels right to you. Personally I've never felt that putting them in order needed to be done. But then I also shuffle my cards like a dealer in Vegas. Not unlike D/s, tarot is very individual as well. If that makes sense. The more you do it and the more you handle your deck, the more you will work out your own ritual for using them. As with anything in life....Keep what makes sense and leave the rest behind.

If it's like any party I've given readings at, they'll all be a bit tipsy! Play it by ear [:)].

Have fun.

garyFLR -> RE: Tarot Forum, Everyone & everybody welcome! (6/9/2013 1:47:25 PM)

I must admit, I don't start from an ordered deck either, the cards are the way I left them for a reason. I have to shuffle them at least seven times, maybe more, but at least seven. I then cut them three times.

I don't like jumpers, some people do, but if I get jumpers, I have to start from the beginning.

I don't know whether this counts as ritual, but, it's the shuffling that has significance for me.

Spiritedsub2 -> RE: Tarot Forum, Everyone & everybody welcome! (6/9/2013 2:07:49 PM)

Yes, by "ritual" I just meant the process we use to generate the mixing and selection of the cards. I tried a reading today without ordering the deck first, and I found myself unable to "trust" the results! Starting habits really can get ingrained. Something about the ordered deck is starting the reading using a clean palette. But I can tell you that putting 78 cards in order gets tiresome quickly [:)]

The adults will be full on snockered I'm sure but the grads (hs) won't be or I hope not! It depends on how many she wants me to do. There are times when 1 is exhausting so if we're looking at 30 then I don't know.

Any tips for doing readings at a party to avoid burn out/fatigue?

SDFemDom4cuck -> RE: Tarot Forum, Everyone & everybody welcome! (6/9/2013 2:25:17 PM)

Try doing the read both scattered and ordered. I can bet you will see many of the same cards come up within both layouts. Its what you feel comfortable with.

EG: I was doing a morning read and someone came to the door. While I was gone Snausage jumped up and scattered the layout. I had jotted down the cards but not really the order. I reshuffled and relayed the cards and what do you know....same cards save for 2 in a 10 card spread were the same cards. It is what it is.

By jumpers do you mean dropped cards? I have to start over again when that happens as well. I also cut into 3rds or have the person I'm reading it do so, then I have to kind of feel which pile I prefer the energy of and lay from that pile.

We all have our quirks and rituals no different than we all have our individual kinks and proclivities!

garyFLR -> RE: Tarot Forum, Everyone & everybody welcome! (6/9/2013 2:46:55 PM)

Putting the cards in order can help the learning process, as you study them, while ordering them. I'll give your suggestion of starting with an ordered deck a go & see what results I get.

It's not a suggestion; it's a pain in the ass! I've done it so many times now that it is quick, but honestly, if you've had good results the way you've been doing it, you sure don't want to switch to my way.

garyFLR -> RE: Tarot Forum, Everyone & everybody welcome! (6/9/2013 2:54:25 PM)

When you place your card with the back mating the pattern you see the deck's meta pattern. The author suggests these cards have connections. When I noticed that i found connections in various other decks as well .

We've been discussing our most favorite cards and decks; I would have to place in there all of the decks made by the Italian artist Giorgio Tavaglione. His TAROCCHI delle STELLA is one of hte most beautifully illuminated tarot i have seen. it also provides for each card a zodiacal reference to each minor arcana - something that can be fit into a time reference tool. (ie the 3 decan of Sagittarius noted in the 8 of wands would be the first third of the time of Sagittarius or the ten days after Nov 28th - know your signs and dates they translate.)

http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&field-keywords=TAROCCHI%20delle%20STELLA&index=blended&link_code=qs&sourceid=Mozilla-search&tag=mozilla-20

I JUST noticed it's out of print and hence stupidly expensive. I'm guessing that copy I have should be kept on the nice shelf.
