Not trying to start a gun law debate, but the idea behind the stand your ground law is sound, the problem is that the way most are written, you can answer any threat with deadly force. Admittedly, Texas is considering such a law, but I prefer the current self defense laws, deadly force can only be used when faced with a life or death threat. The idea that you can kill someone who is unarmed, is a bit far fetched, I mean why did he have to shot to kill? From the pictures of the victim, he did not appear to be the Hulk, King Kong, or Conan the Barbarian. Actually, he appeared to be of a stature that if you used a parachute attached to his arms and legs you could make a kite. Personally, in the two instances where my house was broken into, between the dogs and the fact I had a gun, basically I detained them till the cops arrived. The only problem arose when one of them tried to sue me for having a dangerous dog. Yeah Princess bit him, drew blood, but he had just entered the house through a window. The case was thrown out, but I was ordered to put up a "beware of dog" sign.
