I have a slightly different theory. I think it's less about prejudice on race (though it's probably there to some degree), and more a prejudice against those with differing political beliefs. Some of the liberals here and elsewhere have gone out of the way to paint people more conservative than them as some form of evil boogieman, so that so many things gets filtered through that lens of prejudice. An easy example to point out, are those who, anytime someone criticizes a black leader, is quick to cry out "racism!" It doesn't matter if it's valid criticism, or that the same criticism has been levied against white leaders making the same mistakes. Because it's not "one of them" making the criticism, it just has to be because of racism. They don't need to have evidence to know it, because they already just know it. Which is why when someone makes an accusation of racism when nothing is there, my first response is generally to question 'Where? Why is that racist?" Because who knows, maybe there was something I missed. Usually the response is dismissive, "It's just obvious that it's racist" "You're just being an apologist for racism." Or they'll point out a mention of a black individual and claim that's it. But when never once I've seen someone actually explain where the statement shows a prejudice based on race, then it's gotta be something inventing that racism.
