Just because you apply racial overtones to thug, doesn't mean everyone does. Thug simply does not mean "African American". So it's dishonest to claim your own opinion on what a word means to another's words to claim a meaning that there is no evidence for.

My grandfather on my dad's side was as racist as they come, though that trait ended with him. My dad was very big on teaching that color has nothing to do with who you are as a person (which is why I really see skin color as nothing more than a descriptive word akin to hair color, eye color, or shoe size.) Meanwhile, I have a black brother-in-law, and a cousin. Both of whom are awesome people.

And funny enough, looking through the results, I see opinions going both ways, just like I said. Which still demonstrates my point exactly. Not everyone who uses it is using it to reference any color, so you can't use your own meaning for the word to fabricate another person's intent.
