Not voted 'cos there is none that I think could fit my idea, but I don't understand the "it's not lethal it's just fucking painflull so n the doubt just use it" line of thoughts. Is it necessary when you outnumber a kid that showed intention to avoid confrontation at all and for sure not having a violent one?

pahunkboy -> RE: 19 yr old tagger, tazed, died, do you care? (8/9/2013 6:09:59 AM)

Kids will be kids ??

and certainly the idea is to have a conversation on this topic- not just the poll per se.

chatterbox24 -> RE: 19 yr old tagger, tazed, died, do you care? (8/9/2013 6:17:21 AM)

I didn't vote either.

Were their brains in their ass?
The kid was spray painting an abandoned building, not kicking it up with the home boys, and killing, or stealing. He shouldn't have ran, but if they knew where he lived, why chase the kid? Wait until he got home.
Frail small kid, tazzed by a cops in a group. To say the least, IM not impressed. Hope they enjoyed their high five because not to many people will be celebrating with them.

eulero83 -> RE: 19 yr old tagger, tazed, died, do you care? (8/9/2013 6:24:07 AM)

Yes lets go with that in the pool that quite fits but it's not just about kids my concern are about the attitude, could also be a 40 years old. For me you can't say just a crime is a crime, if someone is not violent there is no reason to use any mean to stop, the defence is not proportionate with the offence and the social danger. So my point would be the cop needs a psychological evaluation because is for sure insensitive to violence, and I'm not talking about the hi-five or jokes next to the body, but for thinking that was fine to electrocute someone just because he is not obedient.

pahunkboy -> RE: 19 yr old tagger, tazed, died, do you care? (8/9/2013 6:24:41 AM)

But someone then would have to clean the mess up.

Also- the tagging- may have been gang grapitti. Studies show the grapitti increases crime. So this may or may not have been a victimless crime. Just because the building was empty does not excuse the crime- as some venues fine owners for this type of thing. Destruction of property- would the be ok if it was your property or the property you see when you look out your house window?

More to the point- who can we stop graphitti?

tj444 -> RE: 19 yr old tagger, tazed, died, do you care? (8/9/2013 6:39:25 AM)

you forgot to add a comment about him "probably being an illegal immigrant and it saves Obama from deporting him".. [8|]

and a comment about "more free advertising for McDonalds"

and a comment about "now his art will triple in value"

Where there proof he was member of a gang? I think there are more male rapist than female ones so a study could show a correlation to having a penis and being a rapist, does this means we should evirate every man walking in a dark alley? I think it is not.
By the way I read a study that says to fight graffiti the best policy is cleaning them regularly so there is no point in doing them.
But this has nothing to do with graffiti is about using torture to get submission, and I don't think you can be ok with that.

The kid did deserve to be taken down. He didn't follow the orders of the police officers. He didn't deserve to die, though. Sure, the cops are going to high-five each other (a complaint by two of the kid's friends, one of whom was acting as lookout) after finally getting a perp they have been chasing for a while (the article mentions him playing cat-and-mouse with the cops).

The final results of why the taser shot killed the kid has yet to be determined/announced. If there was no complicating factor and died solely due to the tazing, there may be a need to examine that gun to determine if it is providing an accurate jolt (as opposed to over-juicing).

There might be legitimacy in calls for police to be better at hand-to-hand takedown skills or in grappling. There is probably a "better" way to take down a kid when you have numbers advantage, too.

Cops should learn hojojutsu.

you stop it by painting over it and painting over it and painting over it.. you encourage more graffiti it by not painting over it.. most cities know that which is why most have a law that requires property owners to paint over graffiti asap.. some cities have a dept that paints over graffiti on city property also..

I dont know why they are making a big deal out of cops high fiving. The cop that tazed him is suspended with pay.
and correct he should not have run.

On painting over it- why should he incur this cost on others? The owner could be disabled, broke, or otherwise unprepared to guard his property 24-7.

The sad part of this is grapitti will continue and it will get worse. I am sick of looking at it. We have some on my block I complained about 3 years ago. Nothing was ever done about it.

well duh.. you asked a question on how you stop it and that is what you have to do.. Imo, nearly all buildings that are tagged/painted with graffiti are commercial buildings, so owned by a business.. in this case its McDs.. I hardly think they cant afford to hire someone to paint over it, so dont give me that "oh the poor owner line".. in addition to that, there is special anti-graffiti paint which you paint on once and then you can just spray with water to wash off any graffiti that might stick to it.. duh!

I don't know in the usa but since roman law here the owner is responsible of his property and has the due of maintenance, so he has to pay because he can't sue anyone.

One Miami Herald reader offered this comment:

"If ONLY they would TASER the BANKERS and thieves and Co-operate Criminals, OIL polluters, Nuclear Facilitators, WAR Mongers that have destroyed and RAPED & Pillaged and VANDALIZED the lives of billions & the PLANET rather than some kid painting a wall of an un-used building! FU$%THem a$$holes."

This comment makes a lot more sense to me than the unnecessary pointless slaying of yet another youth from a minority group.

Sadly, your comment makes a lot less sense than reality.

The kid was not slain. The kid was not tased because of his age or his racial heritage. The kid was tased because he charged police and didn't stop when ordered.

I know in my neck of the woods, any officer that discharges his/her firearm is automatically suspended with pay pending investigation. If the investigation shows the use of the firearm was not appropriate, there will be ramifications. If the use of the firearm is found to have followed protocol, the officer is back to work. I do not know if taser use has this same automatic suspension result here. Deaths caused by officers in the line of duty do automatically result in a suspension/pay/investigation scenario, so if this happened here, that officer would be suspended with pay.

charged... he was not a cuirassier with a sabre... he was a single unarmed person, he was giving the possibility to be tackled running through them.

DarkSteven -> RE: 19 yr old tagger, tazed, died, do you care? (8/9/2013 7:20:41 AM)

The kid was committing a crime, and he ran when the cops saw him doing it.

After a foot chase, they cornered him, and told him to stop. Instead he rushed at police.

They tasered him and he died.

He:

Committed a crime.
Ran from the cops.
Ran toward them when ordered not to do so.

I'm sorry, but when the cops tell you to stop, you do so. If you rush them, they will assume you're attacking and will take you down.

The cops followed standard procedure.
