Actually I know a great deal about it and it is definitely not dumbing anything down. Anyone who told you it did lied or was grossly misinformed.

Oh, I can tell. ;)

Start a thread on the subject if you want.

With so many candidates vying for the bugfuck insane vote it might be Christy or the "reasonable" Ryan winning. Or one of the nuts could be the consensus candidate for the that wing and go on to be crushed in the general.

I don't see that. Your list is all composed of the right wing of the party, except Christie. I'd expect to see two or three moderates try.

Also, unless the shutdown ends well for the GOP, and it looks like it won't, Cruz will be anathema in his own party.

I'd add Jindal and Perry, and I'd expect a moderate or two in addition to Jindal. Unfortunately, the ones I like - Huntsman, Portman, Johnson - don't seem to have the stomach for a run.

NOT another first term Senator, thank you very much.

Christie/Paul would be my call at the moment.

1. Cruz.
2. There isn't one that has a shot, so they could run Limbaugh or any fool.

When the heartland finds out he`s a Canadian American ,he`ll disappear.

How about Ped Nugent ?[:D]

What really gets me about Cruz and the GOP let alone the Tea Party is Cruz father is Cuban, a country the US does not recognize. Cruz and other far right keep up this rumor that Obama was born in Ethiopia and by that he is disqualified to be president.

You mean Ted Nugent? He has stated an interest in running but he did not bath, change clothes and even defecated in his pants to get out of being drafted. And the GOP like him? What really maybe a disqualifier is he has convictions for poaching in California and Alaska. He sits on the Board of Directors of the NRA, so much for law-biding gun owners.

Recently Michele Bachmann thought it would be neato to get a dual citizenship with Switzerland and after applying, got one.

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/05/09/michele-bachmann-granted-dual-swiss-american-citizenship/

Then when the knuckle draggers who make up her base found out ....... she had to renounced the Swiss citizenship out of embarrassment.

It`s not well known but Cruz also has dual citizenship with Canada.

Being a Canadian American would be no biggie if Cruz were a liberal, nor would Bachmann`s dual citizenship with Switzerland. To democrats, moderates and sophisticated Americans, none of that would be an issue.

But................we`re talking about the angry, old, white, xenophobic, not to worldly dumbshits ,who call themselves tea-baggers.....The kind of dumbshits who would force Michele Bachmann out of her dream to be a Swiss/American.

http://hotair.com/archives/2012/05/10/michele-bachmann-renounces-swiss-citizenship/

I`ll bet 100 internet dollars with any cons here, that if Cruz should officially enter the 2016 presidential race, he will renounce his Canadian citizenship, because his primary opponents will be sure to use terms like "dual loyalty" and Murica, etc .

DsBound -> RE: 2016 Republican Presidential Candidate (10/8/2013 9:54:05 PM)

My.understanding is that Cruz would not be able to run, based on the constitutional requirements to run for president.

"Only native-born U.S. citizens (or those born abroad, but only to parents who were both citizens of the U.S.) may be president of the United States, though from time to time that requirement is called into question, most recently after Arnold Schwarzenegger, born in Austria, was elected governor of California, in 2003. The Constitution originally provided a small loophole to this provision: One needn't have been born in the United States but had to be a citizen at the time the Constitution was adopted. But, since that occurred in 1789, that ship has sailed."

This states that if born abroad, BOTH parents must be citizens of the US. His father clearly was not.

And I bet if he were to try the Dems would call it out... which, they should. Just as republicans should call it out... no one should be above the constitution.

As well, I heard he had already said he was going to renounce his Canadian citizenship back in July or August of this year.

Ben Stein is a fully fledged citizen!

and has experience in NATIONAL politics from when he was younger than 28!

VOTE BEN STEIN! START THE BEN STEIN FOR PRESIDENT CAMPAIGN!

I didn't know if they found some loophole or not...

No loophole.
If only one parent, particularly if it is the mother, the parent must have lived in the U S at least 5 years as a citizen and at least 2 of these must have been after the age of 14.
It is a little more difficult if it is the father.

NoBimbosAllowed -> RE: 2016 Republican Presidential Candidate (10/8/2013 10:44:44 PM)

There's a loophole if any of you have the BALLS to put a Black Log Cabin Dude on the ticket!

Stan from American Dad SAYS so!

Assumption: Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic candidate for President in 2016.

Question 1: Who will be the actual Republican presidential candidate in 2016 running against Hillary Clinton?

Question 2: Who should be the Republican presidential candidate in 2016, if defeating Hillary Clinton is the sole objective?

Of course Hillary is a sure thing, just like she was in 08
That's why I won't pick a horse till next year, maybe later.

Unlike Rome,

THE EAGLE SHALL RISE AGAIN!

"particularly if it is the mother"

Particularly? [sm=rofl.gif]

It`s either one or the other.......

How can one be worth more Hersey points than the other?

Could sight the law you`re sourcing and where is says particularly?

And to my recollection, this was NOT settled.

The only dialog I saw about Cruz was zero interest from the MSM and nothing but whiny cry-baby rants from fux news, faux-complaining that Cruz was being "birthered" [:D]

So no, it wasn`t settled....

That aside, it won`t be a law that stops Cruz from getting the nomination, it`ll be his very own cult members that will shun him.

I did forget Perry but no one else has started doing the things people considering a run do this far out. That is finding reasons to travel to Iowa and New Hampshire, getting cozy with big donors and hiring people with national campaign experience. It is possible someone could throw their hat in but if they don't have national name recognition and access to a lot of cash they are running out of time to start building campaign.

An example of why getting set up early is necessary was last years primary campaign by Rick Santorum. He waited so long to get serious about running that he had trouble getting money raised and he had no professional campaign staff with national experience. During the primaries that showed when he emerged as the not Romney front runner but could not win delegates in states he did well in because he had failed to field a full slate of delegates and in some cases wasn't even on the ballot.

Or you can look at the 2008 campaign by Fred Thompson. He waited so long to declare that all the big money donors and professional staffers were committed to others so he his campaign never got off the ground.

JeffBC -> RE: 2016 Republican Presidential Candidate (10/9/2013 7:12:48 AM)

Honestly, I don't know. My guess is that the republicans will nominate some ultra-conservative, ultra-hypocritical, "I hate everyone" guy again. I don't see any end to their path of "angry white guys". The demographics will continue to work against them so Hillary will win by default. And that, right there, is just a nightmare scenario no matter how I look at it.
