I'm very no nonsense either, ex-military. But, honestly it's better to speak the language of the poster... and if you see they are a Noob, welcome them with open arms... no need to be negative, unless of course the community itself doesn't like to grow?

J

I'm rarely negative with new posters. If I feel I can help or have something to contribute I do. If I don't, the majority of times I just won't reply, I may subscribe to the thread and follow it. Yes, there's the rare time I will reply and not pull punches if it's absolutely necessary. Here, as IRL, some need the clue by four to get the point. And even that doesn't work all the time. They want to blame everyone else for their problems but aren't willing to look within.

Well said, and the limited experience i have with you, you seem to follow this to the T.

There are controls in place to prevent posting too fast. I can still make 25 posts in less than 25 minutes. Last One To Post, as one example, is a thread designed to be a conversational thread. Get a bunch of people chatting and I can make a hundred posts in less than an hour. There are several such threads. Never mind threads like this one, that reached 24 pages in less than a week. Any thread that generates a lot of posts will rack up 25 posts in less than a day. Have you seen the Politics and Religion section? A couple of hours there and someone could have 200 posts, easily.

Unfortunate. That is a serious amount of effort... Just imagine if someone put that to use in another field?

Are they all from the same IP is the next question?

Nope. Arpig (and other posters) have used proxy servers to get around getting caught or moderation.

Oh. My. God. I actually sat here & read this entire thread from start to finish.

My suggestion is to neither coddle the newbies nor force them to assimilate. Have the rules in place - there already ARE rules in place - and apply them equally and fairly across the board to the newbies and to the rest of us. Not reading the rules first is no excuse for not following the rules. Allowing some people to get away with asshattiness & not others should no longer be allowed. The Mods should be the only ones Moderating the forums. A poster making him- or herself into a self-appointed Mod should get his or her own Moderating for it. The only way to be fair to everyone in this is to treat everyone fairly and equally.

Please. With the new posters here lately...they are a scary bunch and I don't care if they are retained.
