This is big. PUSHBACK against all the crazy religious nuts.

I don't know if it'll get any traction and go anywhere, but I like the cut of her jib!
quote:

Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) has introduced a bill - Repealing Ineffective and Incomplete Abstinence-Only Program Funding Act of 2013 (HR 3774) - this week that would end federal funding of abstinence-only programs and support comprehensive sexuality education.

"We need to get serious about educating our young people about sex," said Lee. "Abstinence-only programs fail to address the challenge of unplanned pregnancies and sexually-transmitted infections among our youth, which have reached a critical level. We must ensure that we provide comprehensive sex education programs that have been proven to work, instead of throwing money away on programs that don't."

It wont pass cause the "Christian" Republicans in the house will kill it, if the "Christian" republicans in the Senate dont filibuster it to death.

Besides, everyone knows that abstinence would work if it werent for those godless heathen liberals tempting the pure as snow christian teen girls into having sex.

End Sarcastic statement.

"Abstinence-only programs fail to address the challenge of unplanned pregnancies" and STD's. Um, if you're abstaining, there will likely be few challenges from unplanned pregnancies and STD's, right?

I know what she was saying, but found it to be a bit humorous.

I find it humerous that morons believe in abstinence.

I can understand why people would be opposed to abstinence-ONLY education but what the fuck can possibly be wrong with taking the time to teach kids that if they abstain from sex they can avoid the problems?

mnottertail -> RE: End ABSTINANCE "education"! ( Since it's not science and all... ) (12/23/2013 8:03:56 AM)

Yeah, that is a two second conversation.  It takes longer than that to have the sex, what you gonna do with the rest of the day?

ThatDaveGuy69 -> RE: End ABSTINANCE "education"! ( Since it's not science and all... ) (12/23/2013 8:14:14 AM)

Way back when I was in high school - during the latter portion of the Jurassic Period - Sex Ed was part of Health Class. We were taught that sex was normal (GASP!) but that it was also a big responsibility. So we were also taught where babies come from and how people get STD's and that the surest was to avoid either was to NOT HAVE SEX. But they also warned us that no amount of preaching would stop a couple of horny, determined teens so they showed what a condom is and how to use it. Pretty radical stuff for such an un-enlightened age. I guess we were lucky as we had not yet elected King Ron.

Wonder if he used jellybeans as a sextool on nancy?

ThatDaveGuy69 -> RE: End ABSTINANCE "education"! ( Since it's not science and all... ) (12/23/2013 8:21:38 AM)

Maybe a few dozen in a condom...?
Crap, now I'm going to have images of Ron & Nancy gettin' it on in the White House.
And this was starting out to be such a nice day...

If you have no interest in making more of a point about it, sure.

I'm pretty sure they just said, "no", to each other.

No one has said that they may not be taught about abstinance.

There isn't much of a point to make, is there?  Look around you, see the kids?  Not hatched under a cabbage leaf.

Almost as disturbing as walking in on your parents while they're gettin' busy. (shiver)

mnottertail -> RE: End ABSTINANCE "education"! ( Since it's not science and all... ) (12/23/2013 8:30:43 AM)

Those are images that could go into the abstinance book, Ron and Nancy playing cowboy, and dad humpin moms leg.........powerful messages and laser like burned in images.

Put the fear of god in anyone, that will.

Just like in drivers ed they will tell you that if you do not drive you will not have any traffic accidents. Just how much time would that take

Bill Hicks, Barbara Bush, Rush Limbaugh, Pearls, and a Bathtub. If you don't know what I'm referring to, google it.

Uhm, no thanks - sounds like "2-Girls-1-Cup" territory.

LOL.

Look, I admit it's not real hard to simply make the point about abstinence but if you're willing to at least try to expound on it a little bit you just never know what words might stick in a kids head. If we're willing to go into detail about sex can't we afford to give some equal time to abstinence?

Hell, if it prevents even one unwanted pregnancy or STD infection it was well worth every second you devoted to it.

I am in favour of sexually-transmitted infections (though I wish that I could cure mine) and of some limited unplanned pregnancies. (Both benefit the gene pool and the affected population.)

I am also in favour of one husband and one wife heterosexual marriages. (Do let us recall that civilization in ancient Greece started with Orpheus persuading people to have such marriages.)

Thus, let us persecute the unmarried pregnant woman.
