I think about this one often. I am not talking about simple disagreements with friends and foes. I am talking about the legitimate twatwaffles out there. Of course My vote is for the letting them know they are twatwaffles and freedom of speech, but that is just My opinion.

ETA punctuation... yet again >.<

I say, let them know.
Then be prepared for the consequences of our brutal honesty.

I think people who are being assholes generally know it. Pointing it out just gives them the pleasure of knowing they got a rise out of you, and makes you look bad sometimes too.

It's hard to resist sometimes, and it can feel real good to chew someone out, but the one who can keep control and be the bigger person always comes out looking best.

SeekingTrinity -> RE: Should we be able to call a rose, a rose? (1/4/2014 11:50:20 AM)

~FRing it~

I would have said it depends on whether the twatwafflery was accidental or intentional. But the accidental one may not need the ass chewing to get back on the non-twatwaffle path...and the intentional twatwaffle gets off on knowing his/her twatwafflery is getting to you. If this is about who I think it's about, nothing short of mommy and daddy taking the business end of a shovel to the side of the person's head will help.

So ultimately I'm in agreement with Athena

The truth is not a defense to personal attacks. So, even if someone is throwing a temper tantrum like a two year old, please Report it rather than making a personal attack.

We only need one report per thread, thanks!

Actually if you word it properly, you can tell the individual they are a twatwaffle, detail their parentage and genetics, adding that they really should not be contributing to the gene pool and make it sound like a compliment.

Used to work with over educated dumb as rocks butter bars all the time.

LadyPact -> RE: Should we be able to call a rose, a rose? (1/4/2014 12:08:19 PM)

Just so y'all know, I didn't start this shit.[8D]

Actually, Dear, I'm not big on your word choice. I drop the f-bomb quite a bit. That particular version isn't My style. I prefer not to go there.

I'm sure everyone is having fun playing with the most recent twatwaffle. I'll just be busy playing. [:D]

VideoAdminChi -> RE: Should we be able to call a rose, a rose? (1/4/2014 12:12:31 PM)

Actually, I would vastly prefer if y'all stopped responding to him.

Well, the other half looks at Me funny if I don't.

Wakka, wakka, wakka. [8D]

I didnt think you did start this, I always thought the reason many of these annoying people left collarme was because you hunted them down and put them in cages.

I prefer the hide feature. I don't want to read gibberish.

SeekingTrinity -> RE: Should we be able to call a rose, a rose? (1/4/2014 12:20:15 PM)

I've actually never used the hide feature before. Just tried it for the first time. I like, I like [:)]

FR:

I'm personally in favor of no-holds-barred, total posting anarchy. A nice verbal bloodbath can be delightful.

That said, I just wanna point out there is no "free speech" issue in play here. When you sign up to post at a moderated website you're agreeing to submit to both the TOS and the moderators' judgments about what is and is not allowed.

Yep.
I do it in real life (And it so bothers mouse. She's a don't make waves gal.Me-I call things as I see em and if that means calling an asshat an asshat I do it. To their face. In front of their back.No passive aggressive PC BS with this kitty...and mouse squirms so much when I do. It's awesome. Like a 2 for 1 special.).
I do it at work (Hell-calling cheating bastards out is pretty much what I do for work).
I do it online.
I'm freaking consistent that way.

People want the rewards that come with posting on a public forum, they gotta take the risks too.

Besides which,PC BS obfuscates truth.
Not to mention that if peeps don't get told their actions are aberrant and unacceptable, they won't ever change.

Lastly,ya know, everybody worries about the targets poor lil hurt feelings. WTF about mine? Don't I have the same rights as they do?
So if they post, ooooh just for example, racist BS that elicits a reaction from me,I'm gonna respond.
Because my feelings are just as valid as theirs and deserve the same level of consideration.
So fuck them.

JMHO and all

I agree with the above. unfortunately we can't employ it here unless they decide to change the rules. I don't see the being likely, but it's really how it should be.

The wonderful irony here is that needles and I frequently end up on differing sides of a discussion but:
A-We've always managed to keep it civil and respectful, and
B-We've common ground here :-)

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: Should we be able to call a rose, a rose? (1/4/2014 1:26:33 PM)

I belong to one of the oldest still existent boards on the net.

Want to know why it's still around? Because there is a rule about personal attacks that is never allowed to be broken. The TOS is way more restrictive than here. Yet there are people who've been there for 15 years. That site doesn't even have a "hide" feature. We had a very in depth discussion about why to not have about ten years ago.

I've seen lots of other places on the net where things quickly devolve when ad-hominems are allowed.

So I'm going to agree with Chi.

Apocalypso -> RE: Should we be able to call a rose, a rose? (1/4/2014 4:23:00 PM)

FR

If you can't insult someone while keeping technically within the "no personal attacks" rule, you need to work on your technique. With the greatest possible respect.

I agree, though in the case of our latest doofus, he keeps changing socks so fast it won't help. Fortunately, his sock-names are all so similar it's easy to just report, then ignore.

Apocalypso -> RE: Should we be able to call a rose, a rose? (1/4/2014 4:30:49 PM)

The thread in question has disappeared. The mods are prejudiced against dragons. :(
