That's great, unless he has a fetish for SSBBW, in which case he's helping you slowly commit suicide. What does he do to support you getting healthier?

He likes big girls but he also wants me to lose weight b/c he knows it's unhealthy for me to be this big. He puts a lot of the foods that he thinks I would eat and purge up high where I can't reach. And we used to go to the mall and walk around for exercise but I can't really do that right now. Hopefully soon. Though I don't know how well he would be able to do it himself as he fractured his ankle a few months ago.

Just made myself some ginger tea, ginger is also great for raising your metabolism and circulation, plus it settles your tummy and helps you to not get sick, if you don't like the taste (though I love it) maybe ginger pills might be good for you?

I know you don't like to drink anything else but water, but herbal infusions have zero calories and can gently settle your stomach, give your circulation a little boost and all that, maybe you want to try some with berries or so first? Also it would be a good way in the morning when you can't eat because you're waiting for the the time to elapse during the thyroid pill and regular eating, just sipping a cup of herbal infusion to give your metabolism that push to get into gear and stop your tummy from producing all that acid that causes the reflux.

I have some supplements coming in the mail and one of them has ginger in it...hoping it helps. I tried ginger tea a few weeks ago (got a free sample in the mail) and I was hoping it would help my nausea but it burned my throat really bad. I think I let it soak too long. I don't know.

AthenaSurrenders -> RE: Natural/OTC ways to treat severe pain? (2/20/2014 10:59:06 AM)

I have a lot of digestive problems and I find ginger tea and chamomile are amazing for nausea (as long as it doesn't conflict with any of your medications - I don't think you can have chamomile if you're on any blood thinners, for example) and peppermint tea is good for intestine-based discomfort (gas, bloating, cramps).

If the ginger tea burned your throat you brewed it too strongly. The packets often say seep for up to five minutes but I find that's way too long. Start brief and build up.

No they don't taste that great, but they are cheap and take almost no effort to fit into your day. I really would suggest you give them a go.

Edit: ginger with lemon is a bit more palatable, I find.

These are the two supplements I ordered. Hoping they will help my digestion.

It has quite a sharp taste to it, and I would imagine your throat is a lot more sensitive than mine due to the purging.

Something that also helps to settle your tummy and you can pick that up very cheaply in most places is peppermint tea, I quite like the taste of it.

Another good one is 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to 16 ounces of water, sounds horrible but doesn't taste all that bad, sip that in the morning and you're boosting your metabolism, you can also drink it during the day when you need energy, works almost like coffee but much healthier, it's also a mild detox and circulation boost, you won't magically lose a lot of pounds, but it does speed up your metabolism.

What was the brand and how long did you let it steep?

I steep one bag of Yogi Ginger tea in 2 C of water for 10 minutes. This is strong. I see they are rather expensive on Amazon - I stock up when it is on sale in the supermarket for @ $3.50/box. You can also make ginger tea by simmering fresh ginger.

LadyConstanze -> RE: Natural/OTC ways to treat severe pain? (2/20/2014 11:53:41 AM)

I'm doing it the lazy way, chop ginger, bit of honey, hot water.

Could you explain how that simmering works, as in how long and all that?

This works even better if the apple cider vinegar still has the "mother" like Bragg's - http://bragg.com/books/acv_excerpt.html

Cinnamon will also help metabolism and help control blood sugar levels. It can be sprinkled over foos or put into coffee or tea.

Something like this, depending on how thick the ginger is. I no longer peel ginger.

http://altmedicine.about.com/cs/3/a/Ginger_Tea.htm

Ginger tea has a spicy, invigorating taste. It's used as a home remedy for indigestion, nausea, and to ward off colds, flu, and sore throats. Ginger tea is very easy to make. Here is a recipe for you to try.

Ginger Tea Recipe

[image]http://0.tqn.com/d/altmedicine/1/G/S/8/ginger_landing.jpg[/image]

water, 4 cups
2-inch piece of fresh ginger root
optional: honey and lemon slice

Peel the ginger root and slice it into thin slices. Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan. Once it is boiling, add the ginger. Cover it and reduce to a simmer for 15-20 minutes. Strain the tea. Add honey and lemon to taste.

Note: Keep in mind that if you are making ginger tea as a home remedy during cold and flu season, sweeteners are not recommended.

I was always told that honey adds to the healing? And without honey it's almost undrinkable

kalikshama -> RE: Natural/OTC ways to treat severe pain? (2/20/2014 2:49:25 PM)

Sugar depresses the immune system, which is why drinking orange juice for colds is counterproductive, but I won't bust you over adding a teaspoon or two of honey to 4 C of tea (honey has 6 g of sugar per teaspoon compared to 22 g of sugar in 1 C of OJ.)

I need a Kalikshama App for my phone.

I was really sick in the late 90s/early 2000s, unable to work, and spent my time learning holistic approaches to improving health.

Hello All

With honey, its really important that it is raw. A lot of the benefits are destroyed when its heated, and if you really want to up the benefits. Manuka honey has special antiseptic/antibacterial properties (the bees are harvesting mostly from a type of Tea tree ).

Copied
"Unique to New Zealand MGO™ Manuka honey is a 100% natural food shown to have anti-bacterial activity due to the active compound – Dietary Methylglyoxal which forms naturally in the nectar of the manuka plant."

Why do you have the possibly tempting binge/purge foods in your house at all?
Edit: clarity

Ya, I was wondering that too. It might be difficult for me to reach, but not impossible.

He keeps the junk food in his trunk and portions it out when he comes over. It's a disaster otherwise. I told a coworker to "send chocolate" - and he did - six 5 oz bags of Ghiradelli - thank god it's my brothers birthday and most of it is going into the chocolate cake I'm making.

b/c he likes to eat normal foods. It doesn't bother me as long as they are out of reach. I haven't used the broom to knock them down or anything. I've thought about it a few times but still haven't. :)

dollparts85 -> RE: Natural/OTC ways to treat severe pain? (2/21/2014 12:58:46 PM)

I just got a call saying that medicaid won't pay for me to see a dietitian unless I were diabetic which I'm not...so I can't see one.

kalikshama -> RE: Natural/OTC ways to treat severe pain? (2/21/2014 1:09:29 PM)

I'll eat my hat if the one and only reason Medicaid would ever pay for a dietitian is if a person is diabetic.

I think you'd benefit from a case manager to help you navigate this.
