ORIGINAL: kalikshama While there will always be outliers of people who do not fit this model, I am sure that statistically, Lynnxz is quite correct, and that most people who think they are the exception to the rule are in fact comforting themselves with a delusion. I think genetics aren't taken into account, or endocrins, the friend I mentioned who has to eat at least 8000 calories a day to stay stable (that's when he's not having a lot of exercise, unfortunately he's a climber so if he goes climbing, the food he carries with him is often more than all the gear) for example would love to have issues with weight gain. We all joke about him being a lucky bastard and able to eat what he wants, if you think about it, not really true, for him it's survival... He dropped to 60 kilos and is about 6 foot tall, so he said he'll go on a feeding up diet (he already gets those high energy drinks) to stop looking like Skelletor, we all went and brought him cakes and chocolates. He basically needs to eat donuts because it's the best way to get a high amount of calories in for little money. Sure there are people who never exercise and eat a lot of junk, I don't think they're the ones who can claim that it's their genetics, but there are a ton of people who gain easily. I'm having a lot of exercise, eat super healthy just to stay at a weight that's healthy and normal for me, hubby does half the exercise I do and eats considerably more, it's also easier for him to lose weight. I don't think I'm anywhere near obese, I monitor my food intake because otherwise I'd gain, when it comes to metabolism, thanks to my thyroid I'm a slow burner. If hubby wants to lose weight, all he does is come along on the morning and evening walks with the dogs and he drops 1 to 2 lbs a week. I'm currently up to 125 lbs, took me about 2 months to shed 5 lbs and I have another 10 to go to have the weight where I feel best and most healthy. Trust me, I'm not kidding myself, I got a walker app on my phone, I'm using MyPlate from livestrong.com, they calculated that with the amount of exercise and food intake I should have already lost the weight I gained due to a broken ankle, just doesn't work this way for me. I'm not cheating, I'm counting and recording everything, even a carrot I snack on, if it's frustrating for me, imagine how much more frustrating it must be for somebody who has more weight issues?
