I can honestly say that I have met quite a few Republicans who have a firm grasp on reality...

It is their solutions that need some work.

As for liberals, just look at gun control, the affordable care act, and the cars they drive...

Lucylastic -> RE: Reality vs. Republicans (2/25/2014 6:12:08 AM)

I am also more than well aware that there are decent loving great people who are republican... I dont believe anyone has said anything different.

I understand that point lucy, but some people get burrs under their saddles at the implication that Republicans are lunatics.

But, dont you like my analogies? I thought they were quite creative.

Lucylastic -> RE: Reality vs. Republicans (2/25/2014 6:27:14 AM)

I always like your analogies Jeff:)

For some strange reason having only months ago moved west, I am still on a eastern circadian rhythm. Thus I have been up for hours. I come to CMChat and read these posts and it makes me want to turn on Star Trek NG. I am more concerned with the disposition of the plasma inducer coils and warp core containment. Seems so much more refreshingly accurate.

I can feel his pain. I think reality just plain sucks. I'm against it. [;)]

Lucy, I have come to realize conservatives/Republicans don't as a rule like to go by facts.
They like to parrot what other conservatives say (some not even politicians, but conservative musicians, radio hosts and the like). They will try to change subjects on you, resort to name calling, and spill ridiculous beliefs of theirs on you. One thing I am learning? If you are able to make your point on a FOX news link. (rare but I have seen some), they are more apt to believe your statement is credible or that you are "doing better" lol

And the same can be said about the liberals so what's your point?

maybe you could start a topic ...reality and liberals???

What would be the point? Will trying to slam the other side help in any positive way? Personally I think one of the biggest problems this country has right now is the political hate between the left and the right. Starting threads like the one you suggested just feeds into the bullshit and I don't have time for that.

And I thought Alex Jones was nuts.

Alex Jones is not nuts. He belongs to a certain group of very successful news/talk show media together with Max Kaiser, Jesse Ventura, David Icke, and others. To a certain extent R. Rush Limbaugh could be included. They do have great importance because they create certain mindset of their regular listeners, it has some similarities with church. Most they are talking about have a factual basis, but the information is filtered to feed a certain mindset. (In this regard the model is the same mainstream media propaganda machine uses.) They do create dissent, but it does not lead a way for a political change. They exist as long as they are not attached to any political movement. If they were, the totalitarian police state would come down hard on them. I guess some ridiculous claims some of them make (Icke) are part of a defense mechanism for survival (to fool the national security state).
Gerald Celente is different, he just interprets the current events as he honestly sees it based on common sense and the historical precedents.

Dude, I think you might want to go see a doctor, because no sane person would ever put the words Alex jones and Not nuts together in a sentence. Unless they said "just kidding" after a moment's pause.

Actually, Alex Jones is a pretty sharp cookie. He takes half baked theories on why the government is doing this or that, broadcasts it to millions, gets sponsors that let him push products (one of which has an ingredient the product is supposed to protect from) and make a freaking fortune.

He pushed survival gear and supplies in the months leading up to 21 Dec last year, and when the end of civilization as we know it didnt happen, he never missed a beat and kept it up.

Run a fact check on any of his theories, stories, accusations and you find out that his information is bogus, holds no truth, and even some conservative groups like the NRA come out against it (see the FEMA buying shit loads of ammo story.)

Now if the NRA blasts him for spreading bullshit theories, he really has got to be either bat shit crazy or doing it for the money. Me I think it is the money.

Well I wouldnt point to him being mentally stable in any way,
If hes doing it for themoney or he believes in it.

PS I hope the post new topic works soon, thanks Mods and support!!!

FellowSlave -> RE: Reality vs. Republicans (2/25/2014 1:16:33 PM)

OK, I agree, Alex Jones is "nuts". He does not have a regular level of fear. An "authority" or men in sharp uniforms do not mean anything to Alex Jones. However, he is not insane. Alex Jones is worth listening (he exposes corruption very well), libertarian message feels good, but one must not to get too deeply sucked into it.

Back to the subject at hand, I read in the New York Review of Books that the Republican base thinks it lost the last two presidential elections b/c its candidates (McCain / Romney) we're NOT CONSERVATIVE ENOUGH. I have to say that that kind of bat-shit thinking never occurred to me.

Lucylastic -> RE: Reality vs. Republicans (2/26/2014 2:41:41 PM)

thats cos you are not a conservative:)

McCain wasn't very conservative. Whether that was his downfall, isn't likely to bring up much debate. I'd bet most people here would agree that McCain's conservatism wasn't his downfall. That McCain was the "best" candidate the GOP could find is a sad, sad commentary. I'm willing to bet more people voted McCain because they were voting "against" Obama rather than voting "for" McCain.

Romney was a better candidate than McCain, but he was still not a great candidate. Romney was more conservative than McCain, too. I'm willing to bet that there were more people voting "for" Romney in 2012 than there were people voting "for" McCain in 2008.

The Cult of Personality was a bigger factor in Obama's win in 2008 than McCain's conservatism.

So W wasn't a "real twue" conservative and neither was McCain or Rmoney. When precisely is the party of conservatives going to nominate a "real" conservative for President?

Do only conservatives not get how absurd disowning every one of your losing candidates is?

cloudboy -> RE: Reality vs. Republicans (2/26/2014 3:42:16 PM)

GWB won two times. As I see it, the goal is not so much to run on a national platform as it is to keep the Democrats out of power. The Republican party is really a negative movement, not a positive one. The candidates and former Presidents are really beside the point and quickly forgotten. The goal is to keep the Democrats out of office or oppose the ones in office.

Not a single rightist here likes the mention of GWB, and not a single one watched MITT. They just don't give a shit.

The thing is they loved W when he was in office. They called me every kind of traitor for opposing that one. One memorable con said I wasn't a veteran because I opposed torture.

It's only now that the verdict of history is that the guy is the worst President since Hoover that they've disowned him.
