disregard for the little facts

This is/was my point on all the media debates I long since gave up on. While unquestionably media bias exists (and on some channels/sites, blatant), "bias" in the more historically respectable (relatively) media is more often unconscious and a factor of out and out incompetence and a widely accepted sloppiness in what was formerly called journalism.

Ironically, just as we got to the Information Age, we got stupider than ever, and decided to spread it around.

Perhaps even more to the point--for the most part, nobody cares. Opinion/allegiances first, facts rationalized away or denied, or as in this case, simply ignored.

then you should have mentioned that in the first place.. imo you are quibbling over nits.. yes so much more important that the reporter used the (incorrect) term "taser" instead of the importance that it was used by the female to defend herself (eye roll)..
[/quote]

Exactly, frustration over the inaccuracy and ignorance of journalists with an agenda.

Being told you're not special is a "personal attack"? Wow. On who, your mommy?

Sunday/Monday........... Stun Gun/Taser....

Its all in perspective my old mate.

No, Polite, it's all in arrogant stupidity. A Monday may be a Sunday, in a different part of the world, but a Rolex is not a time zone in any of them. Just because you have heard a word, doesn't mean you are competent to use it in sentence.

Thank God for BBC America, bringing a spotlight to the cockroach notion that a British accent makes someone smart.

Sure you can Xerox.

But if a reporter was showing pictures of you xeroxing papers and saying "And he was surreptitiously using photographic imaging machinery that could be used to send copies of sensitive documents to terrorists."

Would you consider said reporter a total idiot?

Or have the maid hoover up the dirt on the carpet...

Sometimes we do get a specific product where the particular name encompasses the whole line, but since Tasers and stun guns work in very different ways, it will never be an accurate description. A Taser is a stand-off weapon, a stun gun is up close and personal.

Could "tasing" become the ubiquitious verb to describe temporarily disabling someone with electrical shock? Maybe, as you illustrated with xeroxing, but that term is dying out, and younger person told to xerox a syllabus might have no idea that you wanted something photocopied, without googling it.

As it stands, the terms Taser and stun gun are not interchangeable, and only lead to less clarity in reporting. Be the change you think we need, Muse.

Especially when a "Taser" is not lawful in this jurisdiction for civilian use but a "stun gun" is.

Actually, I understand how sensationalism sells. But I get so sick of inflammatory reporting that just bloody get the fact wrong.

Questioning your claim that being told you're not special constitutes a "personal attack" is insulting you?

No argument there. My (mild) beef was with the Kleenex, which indeed has come to mean "tissue."

It's interesting from a marketing perspective. One the one hand, when people think of the product, they think of your brand. But when going to purchase, they consider all brands interchangeable despite calling them your brand, with no concept that Kleenex tissues are better in some fashion.

Par for the course Lucy.......... If he cant get his own way, the toys get thrown out of the pram.

What he doesnt get is that while he thinks its okay to argue the difference between a stun gun and a taser (And both stun the victim) he is happy to argue that monday is indeed sunday.

You couldnt make it up.

I had hoped for some anecdotes where people have seen piss poor incorrect or outright lying reporting when I reported the inflammatory gross error I had seen in the news.

I guess yellow journalism isn't as interesting as nit-picking the incident the ignorant reporter was misleading people about.

I dont see it as a gross inflammatory remark

and certainly not political
you didnt include a link to the report, so no one could agree or disagree.
