Yeah.. still not seeing it.

The facts that caused the altercation are irrelevent.

The only facts that matter are these:

Did Olson give Reeves a reason to fear for his life.
Will a jury of his peers find that fear "reasonable".

Attempting to change the argument by talking about texting, icepicks whatever is just an attempt to spin it to make it ridiculous and to make responsible gun ownership untenable.

It is a fact the shooter went to his car and retrieved his pistol.

He claims he was threatened. Witness both support and dispute this.

If he was not threatened, and the victim is not a contender for the middle linebacker slot for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I cant see why he would be in fear of his life.

And if behaving like an asshole was a justifiable reason to shoot someone, I dare say that all of us have behaved in a manner that is consistent with being an asshole at some point, so all of us would have been dead at least one time over.

Except me of course, the wisdom of Solomon, the cool headedness of a saint, and the fact that I treat everyone with respect and dignity... NOT

I don`t know Lucy.....When a armed guy(or girl) closes with someone, starts a fight.....how on earth is that described as fearing....

More like bullying......which makes a lot of sense b/c bullies are some of the most frightened people alive.

And OF COURSE what started the confrontation and SOM are extremely important...

I live in the Tampa Bay area where this murder happened. Another classic example of the "Gunshine State" gone wild. "Stand Your Ground" isn't helping. Now a retired Captain of the Tampa Police Department is shooting someone over a text message. Sad really, a direct result when gun's are involved in the heat of the moment. Let cooler heads prevail instead of fatal outcomes, which seem to be more common in Florida these day's.

Just got back from Stuart(stayed at Pirates Cove) and I was pleasantly surprised to see how many Obama stickers there were on cars......as well as "Save the Lagoon" stickers...

I was commenting on what you said in this thread. And since according to your link "The revelation comes from court documents released Wednesday in the case that has drawn national attention." I seriously doubt it was brought up in the other thread. And since he shot the guy because he thought he was attacking him and not for texting I am not sure why you are trying to compare the two.

it was during the preview, just as it was when he killed someone.
The movie hadnt started

According to the article you posted the couple was in their seats and it was over 15 minutes before the incident. No where does it say the previews had already started. So did you read this someplace else or are you just assuming they had.

Just making shit up, would be my guess, Boi.

If the house lights were still up, texting is no more of a discoutesy to other patrons than chatting quietly with whoever you are there with, getting the kiddies settled in with their cokes and popcorn, or (my habit) checking email and playing a few hands on words with friends.

The rules change when the lights go down.

There is nothing in this report except fodder for deliberately obtuse snarkers.

Nonsense. Why would you tell such a stupis lie? The cop shot someone over being a flaming asshole when asked to stop texting once the house lights had gone down.

Had the dead asshole not been an arrogant asshole and started a fight with a pensioner to defend his right to be an asshole, he would still be a living asshole, now wouldn't he, Charles?

"Stand Your Ground" has absolutely nothing to do with this incident.

No, he isn't. Do you have even the slightest idea what you're talking about?

"using the phone DURING the show"

A kill`n offence for sure...

Prove to me you can read? Please? Just once?

One witness reported hearing one of the men - the witness didn't know which - say "Touch me again and I'll kill you," before the shot was fired. Others heard one say something that sounded like "get out of my face..." In an interview with a Pasco sheriff's detective after the shooting, Reeves said he was scared for his life after Oulson came over the seat and punched him in the face

the link was in the other thread more than once as well, but thanks Merc :)

I love the "making shit up" comment rich, when it was actually discussed there,
it was mentioned in the death penalty for being an asshole thread http://www.collarchat.com/m_4619137/mpage_1/tm.htm
and more specifically
http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=4634851
http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=4637279
to start with on the actual video released before the new info released in the OP

that the lights were up and making disco ball lighting splashes on the floor and seats, and the new release even mentioned what PREVIEW was showing
so Im calling Ignorance on the attempts to make out it wasnt known

and once again, the topic states POPCORN, meaning I know the popcorn was involved AND that texting led up to it. SO yanno, you could actually go read the previous thread where more than one person provided links to the video,
and news links that have been around since the 13 th of january this year.
the revelation was that the damn shooter was TEXTING himself. THat was the unknown until the court documents release on wednesday

bloody hell do try to keep up

Y'know, Lucy, there is a little soda vs. pop thread going in another section right now, pointing out regional differences in language. Maybe we aren't clear on terms like "lights up/lights down," or "preview."

Why don't you explain to us how you are using the words. Did you mean the infotainment loop, while the lights were still on?

The one to the left, or the real one? I do play both sides, you know.

The key moment of change for theater etiquitte is when the house lights go down. Assuming a text sent 15 minutes prior to the altercation was also in that period is stretch. It matters to the discussion, and to your claim.
