Have You ever taped anyone?
Clearly this side dish wasnt taping her lover so she could coo over his sweet diatribe once he kicked the bucket.

I cannot understand the legality of the ban.
If I make statements at which Mr Silver takes umbrage, can I too be "banned for life" from attending certain public events?
How?

FFS he was banned for making a racist statement......... Do you think that should be allowed or not ?

Errr Its a trick question.

A few points worth mentioning:
Before you go and shed a tear for Donald Sterling keep in mind that the team is now worth something north of $550 million. Not a bad $12 million investment. He will very likely be told (by the NBA) that he must sell. That's not a bad payday, even for a billionaire.

I would love to know what Mrs. Sterling thinks of all this. The conversation that caused this was with her husband's "girlfriend". I suspect she will file for divorce minute the sale of the team is complete.

There is a huge difference between players using racial slurs and the owner running the organization like a plantation. The owner is in the ultimate position of authority over the players - he can literally decide their fate in the Game.

I think we can thank (not blame) the election of a black man as president for much of the bigotry we've seen of late. If Obama were just another white guy the GOP would not have attacked him the way they have. Of course they have, for the most part, been smart enough to use the officially approved code words when discussing blacks. But their open and complete hatred at the thought of a black president has made it OK in some circles to express bigotry and racism in a way we haven't seen since the 70's. As disgusting as it is, maybe it is a good thing people like Sterling, Dean, Nugent, Palin, Bundy, and a host of others are outing themselves so the rest of us can marginalize them.

Nicely done...the way you turned an N.B.A. owner's private bigotry into a condemnation of the G.O.P. at large for being bigoted. Because what OTHER reason could anybody have to hate the magical O other than bigotry? It couldn't be his energy policies, could it? Nahhhhhhhh, they're saving the earthl. It couldn't be his taxation policies, could it? Nahhhhhhhhh, they help the poor and misbegotten. It couldn't be his foreign policies, could it? Nahhhhhhhhhhh, every country on earth now loves us and loves our leader, even more. Yep...it must be because he is black.

"Limbaugh Defends Sterling: He’s Only In Trouble ‘Because He Didn’t Give Enough Money To Obama’"

Trump defended sterling also.......

Why is it that only republicans are defending the bigot?

Or is that just a meaningless coincidence?

I don't know...why is it only Democrats that count a domestic terrorists like Bill Ayres (sp) as a friend? Could it be that neither party is made up of purely moral, intellectual souls with some sense of what is right and wrong?

I am a Republican. I think that Sterling is a racist and any actions he committed that have created a problem in the name of his racism should be dealt with legally. But whether or not I like him or defend him is not based on his racism, it is based on his actions. The man is allowed to think whatever he chooses to think unless thoughts themselves are a crime.

I seem to recall a certain high-ranking member of the GOP stating "The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president" - less than 2 years into Obama's 1st term.
None of his policies had been given any time to show themselves to be good or bad so that's a spurious argument at best.
Can you name any other president any such thing was ever said about?

I don't think you can.

Face it: The GOP is doing everything it can to disenfranchise blacks because they are the party of entitled white folk who are scared to death of change.
They have systematically destroyed unions and the once-great middle class. They have done more to concentrate wealth and power than at any time in the history of this nation.
They continue to push policies that have been discredited time and again, not by some theoretical economist, but by reality.

Mr. Sterling is the perfect poster child for the GOP: rich, white, entitled, bigoted, racist.
He could be brushed under the rug if this were his 1st offence but he has a rich history of racism within his basketball team and in his real estate holdings.

Absolutely - Sterling can THINK whatever he wants to. We all can.

His problem is that he acted on those thoughts. He told his girlfriend (still no word on this from Mrs. Sterling) not to be seen with blacks and to not bring any blacks to "his" games.
He also has a history of racism in his real estate business. He's been found guilty and fined for it in the past. It is his racist ACTIONS that have been his problem, not his THOUGHTS.

As for the recording, some have asked why it was made in the 1st place. I'm going to go all Herman Cain on you here: "I don't have facts to back this up" - I heard a
report that Sterling asked his girlfriend to record their conversations because he often forgot what he had told her. If that's the case then this is certainly one
conversation he won't ever forget!

And still I can't shed a tear for him. He'll sell the team, pocket about $600MM, pay a junk of it in taxes, and live happily ever after - for a few more years, at least.

I love how some of you on the left...when you don't have an answer to something...bring out something entirely new. I never mentioned Timothy McVeigh...and by the way, Timothy McVeigh is closer to someone like Bill Ayres than he is to most Republicans. In the same way that Bill Ayres is closer to someone like Bill Ayres than he is most democrats. Both McVeigh and Ayres chose to combat a government they don't agree with by using violent means. That is not the viewpoint of most Republicans...nor the viewpoint of most Democrats. At least, not the Republicans or Democrats I've met in all the years in my practice.
