If GM and Chrysler had been allowed to collapse that would have wiped out both the 2 million+ jobs the companied employed directly plus the millions more in the businesses that supplied parts to them. In the middle of the worst recession since the Great Depression. That would have essentially shut down our economy.
Is that what you really wanted?

What would have come up in their places, Ken?

Nothing for years. You understand that right. For many of the people put out of work no equivalent job would ever have come along.

So you think. You don't think Ford would have tried to pick up some lines? Some plants? Some workers? Fuckin'-A! They would have lost a shit load of competition, increasing the demand for their vehicles!

Saturn was nearly bought by Penske.

So, instead of letting shitty business practices die, they are allowed to continue, by government decision. Not only that, but the rights of individual bondholders were shit on (by the government) during the bankruptcy process to boot!

You have a shitty attitude towards the entrepreneurs in America. You truly do.

Do you understand nothing of recent history? Ford couldn't buy those lines because at the time Ford was just barely hanging on and no one else could because there was no money to be loaned to get the capital to make that kind of purchase. So even if some one did come along it would have been years later after those plants had been shuttered and the economic damage had been done.

Only right wingers with an irrational hatred of the President think saving GM and Chrysler at that moment in time was a bad idea.

Ford didn't need the money, so they didn't take it. Ford had already done the hard work in getting to that point. There were times where it was a lot worse at Ford. They took the steps they needed to take, and came out an awful lot stronger. When the recession hit, they weren't completely fucked, like GM and Chrysler.

You have an irrational way of constructing sentences, but nobody was talking about Spain.

Nobody ever expects the Spanish Inquisition.

But most do like the music, it is a mystery, wrapped in an enigma.

Who said that?

Abraham Lincoln?

His head is on a penny.

The Vampire Hunter?

Well, I've never been to England
But I kinda like the Beatles

And now . . . a Scotsman on a horse.

Winston Churchill's quotation, made in a radio broadcast in October 1939:

"I cannot forecast to you the action of Russia. It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma; but perhaps there is a key. That key is Russian national interest."

Ignorant liberal.

A 1939 penny is worth 17ยข in 2014 dollars.

Not Arizona
What does it matter?

Say the ladies are insane there
And they sure know how to use it

They don't abuse it
Never gonna lose it
I can't refuse it.

Well, they tell me I was born there
But I really don't remember.

Just because Ford didn't file for bankruptcy didn't mean they weren't in trouble. Ford was just slightly more solvent and managed to not have to file but you can check it was widely believed that they might have to file as well. They credit crunch hurt all 3 very badly.

Obama. W gave GM some TARP money but it was just a stall to let him get out of office. Chrysler didn't even enter bankruptcy until April 2009.

Quite a lot of brave Americans regularly put armchair experts like you and I to shame by doing exactly that kind of thing.

Obviously they're ignorant liberals by and large, but they have this kookie idea that education might raise living standards and create hope, making it harder for nasty fuckers like ISIS to recruit.

But, yeah... you're right to pour scorn on it, the "you will accept our western values or we'll unleash a drone attack on you" approach is far far less "ignorant" and much more likely to work out well.

Hurt them bad? Well, duh. Hurt most people bad. Living on credit is a bitch when the credit spigot starts to close. But, Ford was in position to not need the money. They chose to not take the money because they wanted to stay in control of the business. So, they didn't take the money and they made it through just fine.

Riiiight. So, the money loaned out in September was just a stall? The emergency gifting in December was, as it was specifically stated it was to be doled out by Obama's Administration. The original $25B was not, however.

Here ya go: The Scorpions - Arizona

quote:

Arizona really feels alright
Girls swing here and they treat you right
Have so many special ways, you know
And that's alright
Was so hard to leave and say goodbye
I'd like to stay and have another try
Mind blowing all the way, you know
Just out of sight

Ok, when you said that my warped sense of humor target locked the song "Benson Arizona"... infamous theme music for "Dark Star"
