I admit I have never understood this kind of mentality. I remember the riots in the 60's and trying to understand why they were burning their own neighborhoods when they weren't the ones they were mad at. It just didn't make any sense and never solved anything. I also think a lot of people who were involved did it because they saw a good excuse to get some free shit while claiming the high moral ground. The ones I feel sorry for are their neighbors who have to live with this kind of bullshit.

This is starting to sound like a case we had in Selma a few years back.
All of the witness's, about 2 dozen, swore that a cop showed up for a domestic dispute call. A 15 or 16 year old panicked and started running and the cop shot him in the back while he was running away.
The Cop claimed the kid attacked him grabbed his gun shoved him down and tried to shoot him.
There wasn't a round in the chamber so while the kid was jacking one in the cop claimed he pulled his backup and shot him till he fell down.
All the activists and the NAACP demanded that the cop be charged with murder and the chief fired.
The coroners report showed that the kid was shot at close range, from in front and below, with the cops backup weapon.
The activists claimed cover up.
Then the cops released the tape from the cops dash cam (put there because of complaints of brutality) showed the kid attack the cop, grab his gun, and try to shoot him, finally being shot with the cops backup while trying to jack a round into the chamber.
Two weeks later the NAACP still held the march demanding that the cop be charged with murder.
I am not saying that is what happened here but there are things in the popularly accepted story that don't quite fit. Maybe we should wait for the rest of the information.

Would you have a link for this or are we going to have to rely on your memory?

I admit I have never understood this kind of mentality.

Perhaps that is because you do not wish to.

I remember the riots in the 60's and trying to understand why they were burning their own neighborhoods when they weren't the ones they were mad at.

They were burning down businesses owned by white people not their own homes you moron.

It just didn't make any sense and never solved anything.

South central today is a far cry from what it was in the 60's it is better but it aint good.

I also think a lot of people who were involved did it because they saw a good excuse to get some free shit while claiming the high moral ground.

Not at all unlike the boston tea party or similar acts by revolutionaries/terrorists

The ones I feel sorry for are their neighbors who have to live with this kind of bullshit.

Well of course you do

Rioting and looting aren't the proper responses.

It semed to be the proper response when the revolutionaries decided to seperate the colonies from g.b.

The businesses that were damaged didn't push back against government.

The tea in boston harbor did not belong to the crown. but rather to private parties.

I hope the investigation of the shooting finds the truth and that the proper justice is served. I also hope the same thing for an investigation into the rioting, looting, and arson.

And do you feel the same way about the looting and arson commited by the u.s. in the sandbox?

You aren't really pushing back against government by destroying someone else's property.
You're basically attacking your fellow citizen, giving government a reason to come after you.

Pretty much like the colonist and king george.

I don't think Detroit has still ever fully recovered from those riots.

They're nihilists, whether by intention or action. To understand them, you must understand that their only purpose is to destroy. They are the opposite of creators. Destruction is their goal. There is nothing superior that they want to rise, it is all about reducing that which has been created to rubble.

I don't think anyone knows the answer. I don't know the answer, nor am I even sure about the question.

When I hear phrases like "No justice, no peace," it seems to me that it's simply a matter of promoting and maintaining a just and fair society, which is what we're supposed to have anyway. So, if we really did have a system of true justice, then maybe there can be peace. I don't know if that's "the answer" to what you're asking, but maybe it might be a step in the right direction.

First you have to ask what the speaker means by justice.
In this case for example they want to go ahead and convict the cop,
When they start rioting while the investigation is still going on they don't want justice they want vengeance. They just pretend it is justice.

Stop being victims... that is the answer. I believe they do have something to demonstrate about...but there is no excuse for looting. Ferguson is a nice community with a good mixture of white and black and a growing revitalized business district.

Blacks are always complaining about business flight from their majority communities... I wonder why they would think that?

What is needed is responsible community leadership that would have emphasized the need for an independent investigation...and citizens that would demand action but wait for the results of an investigation before looting like opossums in a trash can.

Look...this police officer is most likely guilty of at least manslaughter... I mean even if it went down as he said...why when the kid stopped did he continue to shoot him... personally i see no way around that... but give the authorities time to sort this out.

Whites are always complaining about the same things. They should also stop being victims.

I gave examples in my first post with no complaining from the white community even though they were more victims than the blacks in this case.

Where is the outrage...where is the call to Al Sharpton and Eric Holder when every damn day a black is murdering another black on the streets of St Louis? Where are the parents when their kids are looting stores and running the streets in gangs shooting each other and Grandmothers walking their grandchildren?

Blacks today need to look at themselves before looking to white people for the reasons of their nightmares. They are no longer victims but share the responsibilities of their problems with each other and the police. They need to stop blaming everyone and everything for their own failed responsibilities to teach their children how to be responsible men and women that contribute to society rather then look for reasons to tear it down.

Indeed. That's wholly unacceptable. What the hell is wrong with you tweakabelle? I don't think any of us care what names or imprecations you use against us personally, but you do NOT EVER go after the family. Basic decency.

Yes, unarmed intruders in the home should be shot / killed (Alzheimers's patient, black man knocking on door of house, German exchange student in garage, man wanting to see a 3rd party in the home) but when an unarmed, 18 year old, black teenager, bound for college is shot dead for no reason by the POLICE, you feel well positioned to tell the victims to suck it up and behave.

From what I've read and gathered, this incident is not an isolated one in the community -- it's just the one that pushed everyone over the edge.

It's funny that the Heretic, one of the most absolutely tone-dead posters on race relations -- starts up this thread -- just moments after claiming Obama won the 2012 election based on Bigotry.

Here's what I notice. His lead is not outrage that POLICE shoot (with multiple bullets) an unarmed black teenager, no his umbrage is directed elsewhere (at the usual target.) Without the former, you don't have the latter.

1) Rioting against innocent people is wrong. Period.
2) We don't have the details on what actually happened. I think the police do plenty of crappy things, although I think prosecutorial abuse is actually worse. There are also plenty of heinous criminals. It is possible the police officer was entirely at fault, it's possible he was defending himself or it's possible the evidence is not absolutely clear. So let's see what the evidence is.

She called into question his misrepresentation of the ideology of his sons killers.....and correctly so.

She ignored his point to attack his politics.
Particularly heartless because she equated him with the people who killed his son.
