recent figures

just over Christmas - from 24th to 27th of Dec - 12000+ refugees arrived in Germany
interest in this thread has gone down

the number of refugees escaping the Syrian and Iraqi war zones has not

Since the US represents 5 percent of the worlds population but has taken in 20 percent of all the worlds immigrants and refugees...and...80 million, equal to Germany's total population, are first or second generation immigrant Americans... I'd say we have done our fair share...I think you and the rest of the world could take in a few more.

No argument from me there...Just don't act like the US is not doing its share in taking in the downtrodden because we take in more than anyone...including the great nation of Germany.

Germany, from July to December: 1 million (1 000 000)
Austria, same period: c75 000
Sweden: c80 000
...
US of A: still talking about how many for 2015? 17 000? 47 000? maybe you can tell ...

If you want to count... try 2000 then 2001 then 2002 then 2003 etc... not just this crisis... This is my point... we have been taking in the worlds rejects and downtrodden for years... now it is your turn... all the years we have been home to those in need... did we bitch at Germany because you did not take them in?

Yes... it is... and Germany should be and is commended for its charity. You are doing your share and so have we in other crisis... and we will also contribute to this one given time. The bottom line is no nation has done more over its existence to aid the worlds people in need. Just because your nation has stepped forward in this crisis does not give you a right morally or otherwise to complain about our contributions to alleviate world suffering... you are late comers to the fight.

I am not claiming anything morally - I am giving you figures of refugees that are on the move NOW, need food and shelter NOW, medical aid NOW, schooling for children NOW, language training NOW, something to do for the adults NOW - yesterday, today, tonight, tomorrow - for the last six months about when this thread here started, and for weeks, months etc to come. This is not about the past, it is about 2015, and there is no sign so far that it will change foreseeably in 2016.

What you do or not do to cope with that situation is your business - but I suggest kicking a few politicians into whatever gets them to actually do something helpful might be a good idea.

It might stretch your - admittedly very limited - IQ but immigrants and refugees are not the same. And as a good upstanding American citizen, you might know the inscription on Lady Liberty (given to you by the French for FREE, them filthy foreigners)

I didn't know that the general education was quite so bad, especially when it comes to not remembering that this nation was founded on immigrants (though I doubt the natives were all that pleased, no matter how many glass beads, chicken pox or reservations they got).

That implies that the moral thing to do is to allow these people into our countries - a position I reject completely.

These people have no background in English, or democracy. They are economic refugees- which usually does not qualify for admission. I fully support the idea of refugee camps in Syria, protected by a no fly zone, which has been done time and time again.

if you knew anything about those people you would know that usually many of them speak English ... (hardly any German ...)

21 (among them 3 children) drowned found on the Turkish shore opposite Lesbos Island, 12 rescued last night, after their boat capsized
