To me this is abnormal -- a 26 year old living with his mother -- owning 15 weapons.

Does the number of weapons make a difference to you? Once you go over a certain number, you go from self-defense to offense. What's the difference between "he owns a gun" v. "he owns 15 guns"

Is a rich guy who owns 15 cars more likely to drive recklessly or kill someone? Is there some number over which you go from being a driver to a dangerous lunatic? I realize there's a difference between a car and a gun, but what's the connection here and what is it based on?

Since you can only use one, or possibly two at the most, at a time, it doesn't matter if you own 5,000.

Because owning 300+ Wii games is perfectly normal?

Because owning 82 different fishing rods is perfectly normal?

Because owning 437 skeins of yarn is perfectly normal?

Because owning 289 action figures in their packages is normal?

There are these things called "hobbies." And people who do these hobby things tend to collect things related to their hobby.

I have more. When my dad died, it took the deputy just over eight hours to catalog them all and check to make sure they weren't loaded.

Poor guy had a stiffy the whole time.

So, generally speaking here, the tone is that one with multiple guns is simply a collector. There's no reasonable need or purpose enunciated here by anyone, no tie to self-defense, or even an acknowledgement of the increased danger in owning such an arsenal.

One poster likened owning multiple guns to a car collection.

It is a right. There is no need to give a justification for what firearm you own or what kind. You do not have to justify the exercise of a right, except to liberals.

Is that why you can't justify it, because "you don't have to?" That's both weak and cold.

Some just can't resist purchasing the latest and greatest and end up with more of an item than they really need.

Tech toys or things that go boom; it comes down to where your interests lie. 15 guns lends the idea that the guy was a wannabe gun collector or had really low sales resistance to neato toys. Some even use firearms as an investment. You don't even what to know that a 1976 Bicentennial Colt M1911 goes for these days. That commemorative was a high priced $500 in its day and goes for more than ten times that much; if you can find one.

What have I got in the way of firearms.. hmm.
Single shot .22 that I learned to shoot with when I was 13. My great grandfather had bought it for my grandfather when he turned 13.

Pump 12 gauge shotgun. Hunting, defence, whatever.
.45 ACP Ruger P90. I like to keep my proficiency up from when I was a range master in the military.
.45 caliber black powder dueling pistol I made back in the 70a
0.44 Caliber Remington pattern cap-lock revolver. Leftover from a summer job in college doing the wild west show at a tourist trap.
0.50 caliber double barrel flint-lock pistol. Talk like a Pirate, anyone? A birthday present a couple of years ago.

I'd like to add a Springfield M1A National Match but can't find a pragmatic reason to spend $1200.00. (civilian version of the M-14 I used to train on in the military) I'd just like one.

If you want a mauser just buy one. Lots of them available for less than a hundred bux.

Constitutional Rights are not absolute, BTW. If the Government has a compelling interest in constricting those rights, then that is weighed the sacrifice and injury of the affected party.

The "I don't give a shit, I like guns and want to keep them," argument won't go far in court.

How much worry do gun owners put into the prospect that their weapons might be misused? Posters here describe guns the same way a stamp collector talks about postage stamps.

My mom lived with me until I was 30. Then I bought her her own place and a gun safe for all her guns.
