Please keep something in mind while I explain some of this. There have been several Admin over the time frame of it and I can't specify any names of anyone who isn't here to defend themselves. I'm also going to do a reminder of something most people should know. A lot of Admin names get recycled, so you can't always attribute something to a particular Mod name, think you know who that person is, unless you know what time period to attach it to.
In November of 2013, I got contacted by the Admin of this site because there was a poster who was threatening to sue the site and was basically harassing the sh^t out of the Admin. (Please note, more than one person has threatened to sue the site over the years. I only know details about one case in particular.) It was the same MO the person was using with other people, other sites, and a kink organization at the time, so yeah, same pattern and very much believable. I was told over eighty emails to one Mod account over time and twenty-four emails to another Mod within a twenty-four hour period.
At that time, I was asked by the site Admin if I had any documentation to verify some of what was going on and would I be willing to send it to them. I did that. I included emails from my husband's boss being contacted to file a false report, which was also CC'd with the Chaplain on post where we lived at the time, some of my records with my cell phone company, and links to the other person's journal admitting criminal activity. I spent a lot of time with a black magic marker first to remove all last names, military companies and units, last four digits of all phone numbers, etc.
There was a period of several months that I was under the impression that the 'threats to sue' matter from the other party were closed. If that's the relation the the OP's statement of having to get her own legal counsel, she shouldn't have had to. Any Mod/Admin actions taken on this site should be covered by the provisions of this site, so that should not have been an issue. Nobody who had/has her personal information (last name, prior phone number, etc) would have been dumb enough to give it to the other individual, and if they were, I'd highly suggest they get their head examined.
I didn't hear any more about the 'threats to sue' issue until June of 2014. That was roughly the time that some posters have nicknamed Modgate and I didn't have squat to do with it. (I was primarily posting on a site that was up for a while called KinkyToo.) When that happened, I was given the chat logs between Admin and the male owner of the site discussing the matter and the letter from the site's attorney to the other individual regarding why his lawsuit was frivolous, which really should have ended the whole thing. (People really, really should read ToS because that kind of thing is all laid out there.) Why it didn't, I honestly don't know. By then, the site should have had more than enough of it's own files of that person's journal entries and alternate accounts to prove he had attempted circumventing moderation, threats made, and all that other junk. Any deletion, rather than just hiding those things from member view, in my opinion, wouldn't have been in the site's best interests.
I didn't use any of the information given to me by this site or it's agents with any authorities until October of 2014, when I had to pursue legal action against the other individual through military channels. That was regarding criminal activity. I want to be really clear on this. No kinky person's legal name was included in any of the documentation I turned over with the exception of myself, my husband, and the party I filed against. Simply put, we don't out people where I come from. There's never been any civil action started by me that's named this site or any other as a defendant. For the folks who got told otherwise, I'm sorry, but you've been lied to.
I have also not scammed anybody for any money by using this site. If you heard that, you weren't given correct information. (With my lack of computer skills, people should have known that, anyway. Except for moving, I wouldn't know how to change my IP address to save my soul.) Please think about that if the same source tells you that other people here were scamming money because they aren't correct about all of them.
I have tried to give enough detail in this response, without naming anyone specifically. I'm also not posting any documentation because I think it would violate ToS. I'm not willing to share it with anybody and everybody privately just to satisfy morbid curiosity. It's not good for me, this site, or anybody else. No "you" statement is being directed to WaywardSoul with the exception of telling her she was right about the post I quoted. Everything under the line should be considered a fast reply.
