can testify to that, works brilliant on my system, and a tad faster to boot. Didn't even loose any data when I installed the free one year upgrade.
has the best of 7 and 8 in and yes a start button!

it's so good that they offered a free update from almost any other windows in existence.

the thing is that microsoft did/does everything possible for you to install something for free.

taking into account that they usually don't even tell you the time of the day for free I find it strange that they give such an upgrade for free.

it makes me remember the saying. if something looks too good to be true it's because it's too good to be true.

It's crap. Absolute unadulterated crap!!

It looks hideous.
I hate the smart-phone tiled approach.
Most of my machines can't have it - hardware incompatibility.

When you see the number of forums where Windows 10 has bricked a PC, it's no wonder they are giving it away for free.
Many thousands of people are having driver troubles - really severe fundamental driver issues.
My brother has recently bought a new machine.
He tried the upgrade and it trashed it.
He paid a local PC shop to re-install Windows7 on it.
He tried it again - it bricked his PC again.
The shop used a restore disk to put his PC back to Windows 8.
They tried the upgrade - it bricked it.
I ended up re-installing Windows 7 Ultimate on it for him.

It's not worth the drive space or the disk it comes on. [:'(]
It's unimaginative, boring, hideous, and comes bundled with problems.

No thanks. I'll give it a miss.
I won't touch it with a someone else's barge pole!

I would.

Personally, I'd go back to Windows 7 (Ultimate only, nothing lower).

But if you've got Win8.1 and it's working, I'd stick with it for a while.... A long while!
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I only personally know one person who "upgraded" to Win10 and she had nothing good to say about it. The installation took all night instead of under an hour and actually never properly finished. She runs a business online and Win10 screwed up her business site so badly that she now has a major backlog of orders and daily difficulties accessing the email connected to her business. She also lost her bookmarks, which included suppliers, and her laptop runs like a turtle in syrup.

I made the mistake of upgrading from Windows 7 Ultimate to Win10.
Sucks completely!

Agreed. I made the mistake of upgrading to that crap from Windows 7 Ultimate. Wish I'd followed your advice and left well enough alone, but now I'm stuck with a slow cursor and equally slow hard drive.

Look for a win7 Ultimate download taken from Digital River (there's a version with SP1 included).
It's not a hack or cracked version - it's an official Ms release.
Then look for Windows 7 loader - that will make it a registered version.
Voila! a fully working Win7 Ultimate.

Beats the shit out of Win 8/10.

I have it on my laptop, but I basically only use file manager as my main program to access my files. I have a tablet so its not the "layout" or the pretties it is definitely the slowness and pettiness of their privacy bullshit. Cortana is a bitch and bloatware like everything else.
I did actually install windows 10 onto my desktop and ended up low level formatting the hard drive to get the drive to work properly then I swapped it out to reinstall the windows 7 I love so much.
Like your friend, I cant afford my business programs to get screwed over. I back up everything on a regular basis and on multiple drives, but I dont trust windows that far.
My husband tried it, his security cams didnt work, his wi fi didnt work, his printer and sound card all had to have new drivers, he too is back to win 7.
Mind you he still has a thing for XP so he has that on a different computer.

It is inevitable - I think after the 10 year thing they will switch to subscription based malarkey.

You need to turn off all their spy ware data mining you picking your nose . You can do so during the install or after, just googly windows 10 privacy settings and turn the lot off.

My message line is superior to windows 8/8.1

So windows 10 for thee
7 is obviously superior

After the install you have one month to revert to your last version should you not like it

It's seems the age old lets knock something because you can attitude of many, it's always been around, and will probaably be there in the future.
If you don't like it, you can always roll back to the previous version, simple.

My 6 year olde lap top gets the error thingy whats it called. DPC watchdog violation on Windows 10. I usually just hold the power button in for 10 seconds I have never been able to solve that issue and have given up

My 10 year olde pc runs it just fine.

Does anyone else get that DPC watchdog error? Ye or nae

not for me, I spend more than half my day on my computer. I have neither the time or the inclination to use new buggy software, when the software I need to use has been in daily use since at least 2000. I just dont change something that works for something that needs more time than I have.

Its my livelihood and I dont throw out what works better on 7 just for the pretty and new shiny, that really isnt.
Im like that with most things in my life. ALtho I was a fairly quick convert from xp to 7 my husband clung on to it untl they stopped updates.
Eventually they will stop support for 7 and I will have to use their software, hopefully before they do that, I will have some time to get windows 10 the way I want it.
just my pov on my reasons:)

you go into hardware and dont have the warning sign?

run the troubleshooter, 10 sorta sucks and says all is well with everything but you run against each device and then it finds problems, had to do that when I upgraded my sisters.

snyaptics touch pads are a common cause.

Try telling that to someone that had a pre-installed OS (very common) - you can't "roll back".
Many of the newer machines don't even come with a 'factory restore' disk.

Have a look at the various manufacturer sites that have support forums - they are filled with horror stories for Win10 and serious driver issues on all sorts of machines across the ranges.
Pick any one or two or more - HP/Compaq, Dell, Toshiba et al.

If yours went smoothly, count yourself among the lucky few.


And if you are one of the many that are plagued with the constant prompt to download or install the Windows 10, uninstall the dreaded "KB3035583" Ms update and hide it from your updates list - it'll be gone.

I spent ten hours on the phone with windows tech....nightmare.
They tried everything, i will give them that, but gawd it was frustrating.

'factory restore' disk. ..aka a partition and not an actual disc (bastards - well they are it, tis too long to go into too)...I always get rid of that.

the trick is to download windows 10 which is a lot better than win8...8.1...Create a win 10 disc or is it disk

that aside windows 7 drivers are garbage and component manufactures were like fuk that malarkey. Driver problems are abound with win 7
