Why do you hide your profile?
I've been on this site less than a week, I post 2 questions and I'm getting attacked!
I'm still navigating this site and not sure of all of its functions. YES I ASSUMED I was being blocked, so shoot me for making a mistake, but I'm not afraid to admit when I make a mistake.
But why would any of you pass judgment and attack people but keep yourself anonymous?

I'm here to learn, to find friends, make connections, and expand my mind, not get attacked.

Ah, your error was in assuming that these message boards exist to help people. This is a common mistake.

For more information about this you can look at a post I made a while back( http://www.collarchat.com/m_4491375/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#4491375 ) and be sure to look at the subsequent replies to that post that really helped to prove the point.

Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it. If you put your mind to it you'll have 1000s of posts and lots of misplaced anger in no time :)

Better to just quote the whole thing.

I may be mistaken, but I thought this post and the one on the General board, were the OP's attempts to get opinions on two very specific things that would discount him from some people's dating pool. While it's going to be a small sample size, it will give the OP at least some kind of idea of are there some people out there who would or wouldn't consider dating him. Hopefully, that information will be helpful to the OP as he goes forward.

I have a sneaking suspicion that there is a genetic tendency to be more or less vulnerable to HSV infections because neither my parents nor I have ever had it.

That may be possible. I know that the CDC says that women are more easily infected than men. Which leads me to think that it has some genetic link.

It kills HSV. Outside the body. It will not kill syphilis.

Luckily, syphilis is treatable, and relatively harmless unless left untreated.

Thank you. Good to know.

It could be. Another explanation is the soap and water discussion we were just having. If a man has herpes and interact with a woman, the chances are likely it will come into contact with a mucous membrane.

However, a male mucous membrane is MUCH more difficult to access, being only INSIDE the body and protected.

So, soap and water after will wash away some indiscretions for men but not for women.

There is likely a genetic/immune system health component to who pops positive and/or breaks out in both men and women.

And you are judgmental and ignorant of the facts. I'll take infected (it's not a disease), informed and honest about it over judgemental and ignorant any day of the week.

Here are some interesting numbers and a look into how herpes affects the population:

quote:

"According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about one out of six people in the United States aged 14 to 49 have genital herpes caused by the HSV-2 infection (the herpes simplex virus often responsible for genital herpes). The overall genital herpes statistic is probably higher, the CDC stated, since many people are also contracting genital herpes through oral sex caused by HSV-1 (the kind of herpes usually responsible for cold sores). Taking that into account, genital herpes statistics are usually quoted at closer to 25 percent for women and 10 percent for men, but most of these people don’t even know they have it."

quote:

"Genital herpes is contracted during sexual contact, usually spread through fluids on the genitals or mouth. You can only get genital herpes from someone who already has it, can get it during just one sexual encounter, and can get it with or without a condom. Condoms merely lower your risk, according to the CDC. You can even get it if the other person doesn’t have symptoms, since the virus sheds about 10 percent of the time for asymptomatic HSV-2 infections, according to a 2011 study published in the Journal of American Medical Association."

Your source.

Mine - http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/herpes

What's your point? Splitting hairs about the language isn't going win your argument. Even your Atlantic source termed it a disease, right under it's title; "The Overblown Stigma of Genital Herpes - For many people living with this common disease, the most debilitating symptoms are shame and isolation."

So, hop off that high horse if you can't find a source that actually supports your warped ass theory.

As for judgmental? Yeah, I'll own that. So, what? Everyone is judgmental. You certainly were. Get over yourself, buttercups.

neither the source I used to discuss your attitude nor your source is medical. I think you know the difference.

As far as judgmental, I made my point. I observed your behavior. You judged.

No worries, though. Learning is never wasted. *smiles*

~FRing it~

You knew from the 2nd date your wife had HSV2, you engaged in intimate sexual contact with her, and you yourself ended up infected with HSV2. So clearly no matter how careful and cautious you both were, you still ended up infected from your contact with your wife.

Likewise any person who has intimate sexual contact with you is putting themselves at the same risk level you were under when you knowingly had sex with your HSV2 infected wife and eventually ended up getting infected yourself. You are asking potential sexual partners to take the same level of risk you did by knowingly having sexual contact with an infected person. It happened to you. You ended up infected. So it can happen to anyone who has sex with you too.

Do you have trouble with comprehension? I have not cited a medical source.

And that doesn't make up for your nasty attitude, in any case.

Must be an off day for me. I only skimmed your pretentious reply. Here is a medical source definition. Still a disease. http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/herpes

I don't give a fig how you try to justify your disease.

Is there stigma attached to it? Yes. Is your ridiculous attempt to normalize it going to change how I or others feel about it? No. You got dealt a shitty hand of cards. I get it. Doesn't mean you get to criticize other's reactions to it. My state of mind on the subject is just as valid as yours or anyone else's.

As for my attitude? See my reply to:@MariaB. Don't like it? Ignore me. Otherwise, enjoy living your life knowing someone else has the power over you to incite and inflame you.

LOL! I'm not "trying" to normalize it. It's already been normalized.

In fact, there is zero stigma with me. I have never tested positive for HSV1, and I have papers to prove it. I'm perfectly clean and always have been, medically.

That said, it's important to me to actually KNOW about this stuff. Herpes is an infection. Yes, it can CAUSE disease, but it is an infection—a virus.

But I know that because I have educated myself about the many STIs and diseases that I could potentially come into contact with in my sexual life. Because I give a shit. About myself. About the people I have sex with. About my friends who get infected, and about others.

But, hey. You have a shitty attitude. That's cool. You can ignore me telling you that as much as you are telling me to ignore you. It's a two way street, lovely.

*smiles*

I read the forums because I enjoy other people’s opinions and sometimes I like adding my own. I replied to your opinion about the op with my opinion about you because you revealed enough about yourself for me to form an opinion. Keyboard warriors like you tend to believe strangers on the internet are nothing more than liquid ink and therefore, behind your selected screen and in total privacy, you can morph your persona into something quite unpleasant.

You hold no power over me other than the vague interest in why you do what you do but nice try.

It's been interesting to see everyone's reactions to my post. Ive seen who likes to be informed and educate themselves, versus the ones who make knee jerk reactions to something they don't fully understand.
It's ALWAYS been about your comfort level with my status. If your not comfortable with it, that's fine, but don't show your ignorance by making assumptions about how I contracted HSV. So many have assumed I've been careless and irresponsible.
My wife told me she had HSV, and YES, I caught it from her!
BUT.... What you failed to realize, that it took 10 YEARS OF UNPROTECTED SEX AND NO ANTI VIRALS before i caught it.
That's about the same odds ( 16-20%) of having random unprotected sex with a stranger just ONE TIME!
With condom use AND anti virals the odds are 0.5%.
Also, no where on my profile did I ever mention I was looking to have toys used on me, only looking for self satisfaction, only looking to get off, or looking to have casual sex. You should actually read the entire profile. I want to be safe as well, I want to know someone before I have any sexual contact. But again you assumed. Do you really think I want to give anyone HSV? NO!
Do you think I want to catch anything more? NO!
But if we are going to be sexual with whoever, don't you think there's I certain risk associated with your choices?
I'm looking for an equal in self exploration with someone who wants the same thing. My kink isn't your kink should be the motto here.
We are all looking for something, and everyone wants to be safe. But some live under the false sense of what they are doing is 100% safe. If you think any different you are only fooling yourself. Some are under the impression that everyone you come in contact with is 100% honest with you. If you think men are lying in their profiles, do you think they are being honest with you in person?

Here's the thing...it's perfectly okay for someone to not be comfortable with not having sex for whatever reason...simply because they're uncomfortable. End of story. It doesn't matter if you don't agree with it, it doesn't matter if you think it's silly, etc. It's their right.

OP tend to agree with OsideGirl, I don't have sex in my relationships by choice, any of them, not because of fear of getting a STD but because when I lost my virginity it wasn't by choice, I fear sex and sex with men that happen to have penises (yes that last part I'm being sarcastic), so I prefer to stay away from it. ten years ago I discovered S & M is a good substitute.
