MasterJaguar01 -> Amazing Article from former Reagan and H.W. Bush Adviser (6/25/2017 3:36:02 PM)

Over the many years, I have said many of these things. Here it is from someone who has been in the middle of it.

http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/06/24/intellectual-conservatives-lost-republican-trump-215259

He completely articulates the dumbing down of the GOP (and mentions FOX news in that context)

He WAS a Hillary supporter ONLY because he wanted his OWN party to heal.

HW your recollection of events is correct.

Bosco's effusive praise of "our allies" the Saudis led many people here to question the sincerity of his loud opposition to sharia. People wondered how he reconciled his opposition to sharia with his active support for arming the Saudis regime, who are probably the world's strictest and harshest enforcers of sharia. People repeatedly asked Bosco for an explanation of this contradiction but he was either unable or unwilling to provide one.

He is now attempting to smear others for their alleged (read: wholly imaginary) support of the Saudis, even though the only person on these boards who has supported the Saudi regime has been Bosco himself.* It seems Bosco's right hand doesn't know what his left hand is doing ...

Should any one be surprised by Bosco's flagrant hypocrisy? I don't think so - consistency and coherence have never been features of Bosco's posts have they? Come to think of it, they have never ever appeared in Bosco's posts have they?

* It may be the case that Bosco's partner in crime Nnanji also voiced support for the Saudis but, while I have a vague memory of this happening, I am not in a position to state definitively whether this happened or not. So perhaps it's best to give Nnanji the benefit of the doubt until the matter can be cleared up definitively.

quote:

The implementation of long-term, successful policy change cannot be short-circuited, it must be built on a solid foundation of thinking, analysis and research by smart, well-educated people. Listening to the common man rant about things he knows nothing about is a dead-end that leads to Trump and failure because there is no “there” there, just mindless rhetoric and frustration. ~Bruce Bartlett

I held my nose and voted for Hillary because I suspected the Republicans would decimate our welfare safety net.

Mr. Bartlett, in the OP linked article, does not seem to understand that elections are battles won by appealing to the disaffected or by showing people why they should be discontented. His arrogance and elitism are precisely why Hillary lost. He confuses governance with winning elections. Trump and the Republicans rode the wave of discontent created by globalism and the devaluing of labor. They may not truly believe that they can bring manufacturing jobs back to America and their plans to do so may be absurd but they were spot on in listening to the white working class who were struggling with two or three minimum pay jobs to maintain the lifestyle of the middle class they had gotten used to before the crash of '08. Hillary ignored the traditional base of the Democratic Party. She was a shite candidate. I fear the Dems will have to wait until after the GOP pummels our welfare safety before they have a chance to become the majority again. It appears the Senate is pushing the defunding of Medicaid to the out years so people in need will not feel the impact the next few election cycles. I hope I am wrong, but I think not.

It seems to be an expression of contempt for the electorate at heart: "The stupid fuckers who vote need everything dumbing down for them. Don't bother to discuss issues because they won't be able to follow any of that. Stick to personality politics, promises that anybody with half a clue would find laughably unfulfilable, and lies about the opposition instead of policies. That's all they can understand, and some of them even have trouble following that much."

Another product of your almost cartoonish reality

You are an idiot, calling others "dumb" who refuse to buy the madness that you happily belly dive into

Hilary Clinton is more like a Reagan conservative than anybody the Republicans have run for office since the turn of the millennium: that's why Bartlett voted for the woman. Some Republicans find it a bit worrying that hardcore paleocons are voting for lifelong Democrats because they seem to do a better job of embodying traditional conservative values. Evidently you're not one of them as all that matters to you is the letter after somebody's name, but those who think (or just like to pretend) that the GOP stands for concepts, policies and political ideologies are finding their party's current front man disturbing.

Only in your cartoonish reality could a massively corrupt anti-American "liberal" who is far more of a power mad Dear Leader communist-type than any Democrat Reagan ever knew be considered even remotely Reagan-like

Here in the real world, President Trump is remarkably Reaganesque in many ways - which is why your puppet masters who run the swamp hate him so much
