I don't think anyone should feel guilty about not believing every abuse story. I suspect that like most anything involving people, most are telling the truth, and a few are lying. And I'm with you; I am not readily believing the story about Takei. I think there is more to it than has been told.

assuming your post was sarcastic... the forum is full of people who hate god, Christianity, and Christians as well as "the right." if you honestly believe a conversation about the nature of forgiveness from a Christian perspective can be achieved without snark, personal insults, derailing and their being their usual smug pompous asses---an "analysis" of which can be gotten by looking at practically every single thread on here---then start the thread and see how far it goes. id be happy to be wrong. otherwise, yeah, really, slam dunk.

I recently engaged in a work that involved a lot of memories of many people from ~30 yrs ago. people also remember things wrongly.

False memories were very popular in the 90s, I have a box of literature back from then, psych, legal and medical. A lot of people had their children taken from them, a lot of vindictive people made a lot of claims because of what they were "told" they remembered. A lot of people had their lives ruined by psycho babble. One example, real case, went to court 35 yr old woman goes to the psych, who sends her for evaluation with a childhood psych. Three weeks later, she makes an accusation, that she remembered her father molesting her as a six month old, except her father was serving away in a submarine from two months after her birth. Her mother was going thru a nasty custody battle, and said it was true. The father committed suicide because of it. Under two years later, she was recanting saying she was fed her "molestation" However...If you have been molested, raped, assaulted, being accused of lying is a double victimisation.

I think the ur-text for the whole recovered memories thing was Michelle Remembers which was published in the late '70s, and shortly afterwards so completely debunked that it was quickly disowned by the religious right as a massive embarrassment.

Oh I have no doubt, but was too young to have been knowledgeable about it... Im talking about the BFMSF which was the UK version of the False Memory Syndrome Foundation in the US in 92-93.
