Is a sadist a person who acts one way, or are there different kinds of sadists?  For pain? For mind games?  Whats your idea about how a sadist is?

A Person Who's Gradification Is Associated With Inflicting Physical or Mental Pain On Others.

Now How You Choose To Be A Sadist Is A Personal Choice.

Try Not To Put Labels On Others Or Yourself.......There Is No Wrong Or Right To This Question, Just Do What Feels Right To You.

A Sadist is one who uses external stimuli to overload the senses-resulting in fear and flight reactions that feedback to arouse the inflictor.

It can be more than just pain. Nerves that overload pleasure responses are just as intense.

On mental levels, fear and axiety can be played with to induce emotional wonder or distress.

Some sadists like it when the bottom enjoys what they are doing..Others feel more satisfying energy if they think is is being suffered, rather than enjoyed.

The wider the range of all that a sadist employs, the more unpredictable he is.

Homestead, you're right there.
I'm not a sadist in the stricktest sense of the word but I do like it when like you said, a sub "enjoys" what I'm doing to her, like if I'm really spanking her hard or pinching her nipples real hard for example.
To (me) anyway, pain should be "pleasurable" but I like to push limits ever so slightly into that "gray" area.

I've not much experience, and am not ready to slap a specific badge on my chest, so take this with a grain of salt.

If there is a schism between the pain and fear inducers, I'd probably fit in with the latter camp. Though by definition, I'm not sure that's sadism. I enjoy mental control and harshness, akin to playing Brain Surgeon without the scalpel, if that makes sense. I do enjoy stretching physical limits, and I certainly like pain on 'meself, but there have been a couple of times when I've accidentally hurt an s.o. and they *didn't* like it - and I literally vomitted.

My tastes in this regard aren't always proactive; there's a line where my pleasure ends and the inner Control Freak takes over with its hideous crooked-toothed grin. So I suppose I've lots of parameters to smooth out.

In an attempt to answer the actual question: I *hope* there are many "types" of sadists - otherwise, I'm afraid I might just be a jerk. ^ ^

Inhibitor, no, you're not a "jerk".
Maybe just a little in-experienced perhaps.
I think there's different degrees of sadism too.
I'm probably very "tame" compared to the real hard core sadists who use blow torches! lol

As a sadistic old batich, what I enjoy depends on the other person and how I feel about them.

There are different forms and levels of sadism, but I find myself leery of labeling what I do and what I am under any of them. I do not consider the nature of my indulgences static enough to be summed up in any species of the word, any more than I consider my atheism representative of my collective musings about the Universe.

no one person acts the same way...

but a sadist is simply a person that gains pleasure in the inflicting of pain.

However,

why a person gains such pleasure in inflicting pain is subjective

what pain a person likes to inflict is subjective

how a person likes to inflict this pain is subjective

where a person likes to inflict this pain is subjective

who a person likes to inflict this pain is subjective....

There is no universal answer here.

As Amayos said, with any label, you will get a spectrum of variation through it.

Generally- sadists enjoy pain in others.

Causing it?  Usually.  But I know plenty of sadists who can enjoy simply watching anothers pain and feeding off of it just as well.

Type of pain?  I know plenty of sadists who still get a thrill at someones pain whether it's consensual or not. Unethical sadists are very dangerous people.  However, in the scene, most sadists are ethical and so, even if they ENJOY pain produced non consensually, they will not actually DO that.

As well, what a lot of people call sadists, I call fluffy sadists.  They don't want to ACTUALLY cause the other person pain- they want the other person to enjoy it, to fly from it, to have a pleasureable experience.  For me a sadist is someone who wants the other person to be in PAIN- NOT enjoying it directly at all.

And of course, the mental or physical.  Sadism generally refers to physical pain as mental and emotional pain gets so complicated with so many different causes and gray lines (Is it ok to make your slave cry by talking about her dead grandmother?) that it makes it a tricky topic overall.  But certainly, some enjoy both.

As always, just goes to show that you can't tell much beyond the basics of a person with just a label.

My sadism starts by tracing the external outlines of a creature, and working inwards, through the cracks in it's defensive armor. The more I can ken, the more I can affect.

If you slap it on enough times you'll eventually reach a point where the salt gets interesting. But if your luggage has already been checked through and boarding is about to begin I'd suggest pinning it on instead.

I draw animalistic energy and pleasure from the pain I inflict on a sub or slave

a sub who doesn't want the pain will not be with me .... she will avoid me because she knows this is something I crave in life. and there are those will crave it now after experiencing the pain I dole out in a certain way ..... most times being she had a bad experience once before with it . but once given a different way of seeing it she will then like it

Hi Cuddleheart50,

I'm sadomasochist.  I enjoy inflicting erotic pain.  I like a sub to act as if
she doesn't like what I am doing.  I like her to pretend that I have kidnapped
her, and am forcing her to be tied up and forcing her to endure pain.   I am
not an intimidating kind of guy, so just about any female who knew me,
would have not fear that I would really hurt her.  I think a lot of females are
attracted to guys who look scary like bikers, guys with huge biceps, guys
and with a bad boy appearance.  I lean toward the nerd side of the spectrum.
I don't think many subs would be attracted to Bill Gates if he wasn't rich.

I can't tolerate causing anyone the slightest degree of emotional pain.
Nor could I ever really cause someone physical pain against their will. I'm
a vegetarian because I can't stand the thought of any animal suffering or
being killed for my eating pleasure.

I feel a lot of guilt for having sexually sadistic cravings.  I draw the line
for myself at finding a partner who enjoys receiving what I like to do, no
scat, no blood, and no permanent damage to the skin.   I like scenes
that are artistic and tasteful.  I think that anything more extreme than
what I do is not sane.  Needless to say, I am not into needle play.  If
a female craved physical pain, I could inflict any level of physical pain
without breaking the skin or leaving permanent marks.

Just because I fantasize things doesn't mean I would do them. Has
anyone here ever thought about doing something criminal, but would
never do it in real life.   There is respect for the law. There is fear
of consequences.  There is the fact that I choose to live an
exceptionally moral life, helping others, and assuaging human
and animal sadness.  I don't live to satisfy my sexual appetite
or my deviant perversions.  But if I can indulge them without
causing anyone emotional pain, I don't see the harm in it.  I don't
fear that if I indulge my primal cravings, that someday I may go
out of control.

With love, lashes, and endless hugs,
Michael

Looks like there is a wide range of sadism......I guess everyone looks at it from different points of view.....everyone takes it to different levels.
