i'm just curious to see what kinds of things people collect.

i collect bookmarks.  They're not expensive, i love to read, and there is certainly a wide variety of them.  i have over 500 of them.  i just wish i had a way to display them.

So what other collections are out there??

I fly all over with my work and collect rocks from each state or country, to put in my larger aquarium. I also collect flags, wine glasses and crystal, old/antique electronics (I have the 2nd [ser no.# 2] T-handle push dynamite detonator ever made by Sparks, Inc, in it's original wooden case), I collect paintings and have quite a few oils on canvas, aviation and military memorabilia is also a hobby. When I was in the military I enjoyed collecting unit and weapons systems/aircraft patches. Among my knives I have collected are a few Civil War era bayonettes and I have one from Napoleonic France.  I also collect paper currency, especially Silver Certificates and have a serial number sequenced set of thirty-seven 1953 one dollar silver certs in mint condition, never folded.

It seems that all my collections enjoy collecting dust...

I love shoes and purses, but those are more necessities than a collection. <smiles>

I have tried to limit "stuff" that just sits around, but I am often given mermaid item/figures to go with my mermaid name.  Every once in a while, I even buy something "mermaidy" on my own.

Also, I have a really nice, rather large eclectic collection of books which means a lot to me.

Everything old. I have my baseball cards from the 70s. Old tin soda and beer signs and thermometers. Old coins I metal detect for them. Newspapers, magazines, and post cards from the 1800s and early 1900s. Shot glasses 100 year old bottles. Old cigar boxes.Advertising items such as ceramic whiskey pitchers. I display as many items as I can in my home. Why, I dont know lol. They are unusual and they cant be bought off the shelf of a retail store.

As a child, i collected comic books, coins, swizzle sticks and baseball cards from McDonalds.  i believe i still have most of them. As an adult, i really only collect zipper pulls for my daughter from wherever i go on a trip.  Her collection is small, but it means something to us.
